No idea why this album seems to always get passed over. IMHO it is one of Eltons best and this song is typical of the quality throughout.

@@popsmcgee9775 Absolutely. This is probably my favourite 'early' album. The sequel, 2006's 'The Captain and the Kid', is one of my favourite 'later' EJ albums. Ten songs and not a bad one amongst them. The best is either the title track or 'Blues Never Fade Away'. (Just a suggestion for our host, a chance to see how the autobiographical song writing developed over a span of 30 years!)

I have said this before, but what makes the musical team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin so great, is that even their lesser-known songs like this one are just as good as Elton's big hits.

I've seen Elton 9 times live since '92. One of those shows happened on 10 Oct. 97 in Winston-Salem, NC, which was the first night of "The Big Picture" tour. It hadn't quite been a full month since Elton had performed the revised version of "Candle In The Wind"/"Goodbye, England's Rose" at Diana's funeral. I think most of us adults in attendance at the Winston-Salem show knew he wasn't going to do "Candle" that night, or for awhile at that. The second song of his encores was a Beth Nielsen Chapman song called, "Sand & Water", then after that the closing songs were the combo of "We All Fall In Love Sometimes" & "Curtains". They even speed up "Curtains" towards the end & then slowed it back down to its normal speed. I didn't think I would ever hear either/both of these songs live, & they were absolutely flawless. Simply incredible.

Okay, I was finally inspired to pull out my program for the 1975 Captain Fantastic tour, that I wrote the set list on (27 songs). Now I'm glad it survived a big paper purge a couple of months back. And yes, he closed with "We all fall in love sometimes/Curtains" (before the encore of "Saturday night's alright for fighting" and "Pinball wizard").

In the Elton John biopic, "Rocketman," there’s a moving scene that captures their platonic love and mutual respect (when Elton adds music on-the-fly to a poem Bernie wrote, resulting in their first hit, "Your Song.")

I haven't seen the entire movie, but I have seen that scene & have it saved on my laptop. They captured the essence of the Taupin/John "marriage" perfectly in that one scene. At some point I will eventually get around to watching the ENTIRE movie, lol.

I remember buying the Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album the minute it was released! I would spend a long time studying the artwork on it, trying to analyze the meaning behind the imagery. This album is musical autobiography of Elton and Bernie’s journey to stardom. It is the last album that was recorded with Elton’s original band. It is sort of bittersweet in that regard, although the band eventually reunited. It is a masterpiece of an album!

The first time I heard this song, I had myself a cleansing cry. Its lyrics speak of a deep love for a friend. Alas, when we declare such love for our platonic friends - especially same sex - it's often met with embarrassment and fear. That certainly was the case with my friends, with whom I also felt that kind of love - but dared not express it.

Elton said of this period his "team" was a well oiled machine by this point. The band, producer Gus Dungeon, Bernie, all at a creative peak. Unfortunately EJ broke up that team after this LP. Even Bernie was out of the picture by 1978. Hard to imagine.
