I almost went to Howard myself, but I didn’t feel “black” enough. Looking back, it may have been in my head, but it felt very real at the time. Glad to hear HU is still thriving!
this is the same thing that kept me from going to an HBCU. I don't feel black enough, but I also don't fit into PWI spaces so I feel very stuck in college (I go to GW currently).
I went to an all black HS in Houston, but I graduated from a PWI in college. I can honestly say I had the time of my life in college. My HS was very popular and it like being at a black college. We had one of the best bands in the country, our athletic programs were top notch, and I really felt like going to a PWI would give me the balance I needed to deal with the reality of the world we live in. I support anyone who wants to go to HBCU's because not everyone has/had the HS experience that I did. When it comes down to it, you can excel at both. It's really about taking advantage of what the school offers, and tying yourself to the university in some way. Whether it be joining a fraternity or sorority, joining student government, etc. I admire that you are so open about your experience and good luck moving foward.
There's nothing more BEAUTIFUL than an educated black child!!!! This is AWESOME especially 👏🏿 with the recent issues of the dorms at H U which I pray has improved!!! My parents, grandmother, and a few cousins are products of the HBCU experience!!! I pray this young lady goes straight to the top of her field in advertising and helps others!!!!
Thank you for the amazing video💓 I got accepted into Howard and am visiting the campus tomorrow, I think I’ll be choosing this school :) What you said at the very end was beautiful.
I stumbled upon this video this morning while looking for something else when it came up in suggestions since I like to watch videos about experiences at different colleges/universities and keep up with what’s going on at Howard in general! I am an Air Force veteran from DC who went to Howard after getting out of the military and my younger sister is also a Howard grad who majored in engineering then went to U of Maryland, College Park for her Masters. The engineering professors at Maryland where so impressed with how sharp and prepared my sister was. She had an amazing internship with the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany through Howard. I really enjoyed this video! It brought back so many memories of why I loved going to Howard from the amazing professors, welcoming atmosphere and great classmates…even the challenges like the one semester my tuition check from Veteran Affairs was sent to the hospital instead of the A building and I spent almost a whole semester with no money. Talk about not taking “No” for an answer! I was in the head financial aid officer’s office every week until my tuition check was found instead of simply waiting for the situation to work itself out. I can relate to having to navigate both worlds when it comes to race because of the Air Force and now being a federal employee. Like you, I received exposure at Howard I never would have gotten anywhere else like… Barak Obama coming to the campus when he was running for President, seeing Jay Z up close as he did a pop up concert right outside of the band building during his Hangar Tour that turned into a major free concert sponsored by Coke. I just happened to be on campus that Saturday volunteering with some classmates for community service hours and one of them got a text that Jay Z was coming. One of them was from Brooklyn, NY so she was just totally beside herself with excitement. We ran up “the hill” so fast 😆! We were the first to arrive and it went from a few students standing around to a whole stage being built in minutes. Jay even took two students out of the crowd to fly and finish the tour with him. I could name so many more experiences like Oprah being my commencement speaker, but I just want to say as a fellow Bison how proud I am of you and I am glad to see some things haven’t changed about the Howard experience! Keep doing great things and you have a new subscriber to your channel!
Hey! I really enjoyed reading your story. Thank you for sharing your unique experience at Howard and for subscribing to my channel. I appreciate the time you took out of your day to type all of this.
Im an international student who is low income and first gen hoping to go to howard as the class of 27. Binge watching ur videos rn and they’re really exciting me for college.
As an international student at Howard, it is a bit difficult to traverse the campus and find opportunities but when you actually get out and talk to people it gets easier. Networking and making friends will be the biggest help because they look out for you and international students look out for each other they’re clubs here that help you adjust to life as an international student as well. But I’m HU25 and Howard hasn’t been too bad for me, I enjoyed e year. If you have any questions you can message me 😁
Aw thank you for responding and sharing your perspective as an international student! I don’t know much about the international opportunities at Howard, so could you leave your IG? ❤️💙

Idk Howard has a track record of disregarding transfer and international students. Arion here is one of lucky few who transferred and could actually continue their education at HU. Quite a few ppl that were in my social circle had to leave because HU wasn’t giving them their financial aid until late October/November, but bills are expected to be paid by August.
Hi Arion! First of all, thank you so much for making this video! I got in Howard in January and I’m so excited but I need a lot of advice lol cause the tuition is a big deal. Do you any any advice or resources I can look into to pay for it?

I love this video first of all🙌🏾 but I got waitlisted at Howard due to a missing document the school didn’t receive. What do you think I should do because I really want to go to Howard
Thank you for watching! I'm not 100% sure who you should contact, but I would make sure that you get the missing document in ASAP. You might want to call/email admissions to ensure that they get it so that you can come to Howard!!❤️💙
