Big facts. I graduated 🎓 from high-school at 16. My 4ft 11 inch mama said get out make yourself useful. I was 16 and at Clark Atlanta which was Clark College and I had no direction. Just by the grace of God I inherited mentors. So yes indeed we need to help our kids more. People gonna talk that talk good and bad. I look forward to R and B money. Thank you 😊 for creating this phenomenal show ❤️. I present you ❤️ three with your flowers 💐. I hope some of our young artists pay attention to this knowledge.
Same.. Graduated at 16 headed to Howard University as a very green, introverted preacher’s kid, placed in a co-ed dorm, (shout out to Meridian Hill Hall), with some of the most beautiful women, off campus, along with all of my innocence and no real direction from advisors.. it had my little mind like, 🤯 I was very unprepared. Thank God for grace and mercy. Lol
This was a great conversation. However, we didn’t get the story about Tank almost becoming a member of Jagged Edge. Once again, The Valentine is that dude. He’s not afraid of consequences of his actions. I respect that.
Can we please get Monica on R&B Money????? Can we have Kenny Burns help curate the R&B Money Podcast Music Tour with Tank and J Valentine? Like Tiny Desk... while on tour, can we get new interviews? please...
I absolutely love how @R&B Money is pulling the veil back on the industry. I personally had never heard of Kenny Burns. But I am so impressed by him…and then to honor his wife like he did. Going to learn more.
This episode was beautiful and needed on many levels. Thank you all for your platform. WE CAN DO BETTER for each other as long as WE ACTUALLY DO IT TOGETHER. I’ll stop there…again, THANK YOU!!
there’s something so calming and wholesome about being able to witness black men in comfort, amongst their fellow brothers, just sharing memories, catching the vibes…especially when they’re from where i’m from. mr. burns is SO dc, it’s not even funny but it is admirable and really motivating . i laughed and shedded a few tears watching this episode - i love what y’all do and stand for here, seriously. and he is not wrong, this generation needs y’all now more than ever…the pits of hell are opening but i volunteer as tribute for being a gatekeeper 🫡
Great interview about the culture! When JV said I'm willing to kill or die about mine... I felt like calling the posse and getting on horses and ride out like a damn black cowboy movie. Lol
I gotta love yall wit an essay today. I recognize Tank and J’s comments may not be limited to fans and also may include the powers that be in the industry but it seems more largely directed to fans or the general public. I need to push back on Tanks theory that "We have unfair access" to celebrities/artists. I’ll also touch on some of J’s comments. I'll touch base on artists v celebrities. Not all artist participate in depth of celebrity culture. The oversharing on social media, podcasts, interviews, appearances that aren't promoting anything etc are voluntary. We don't know the ins and outs of all celebs/actors/artists personal lives or mistakes. For the ones we don't know much about that is by design. They respect their privacy, take note. For others their mistakes go into diabolical and/or criminal territory. They have documented histories of being immoral in their actions. At what point does that speak to the integrity of the person? When is the artist the person!? The clear distinction should be made between a personal life and violently criminal activity. We're not talking white collar crimes we're talking about violent, life altering and ending acts. We’re not talking about do we know who you’re dating, your dogs name, how you’re spending your holidays and the cost of your lifestyle. We’re talking crimes, death and destruction supported by your talent and exploitation. With this unfair access where they perform they are profiting. With this profit they have more access to terrorize, brutalize, harm themselves and others. The theory "we have unfair access” is flawed. We did not create access we are participating like everyone else. Gender should be addressed. You shouldn’t need proximity to a specific gender to care about their quality of life experiences. Not all survivors are girls or women as we will see in months to come and have seen with actors, musicians, performers and religious figures in the past. Survivors often times are preyed on. If you don't understand the psychology of predator v prey just look at the animal kingdom. To discuss what you're willing to do about yours is of little importance to the conversation. Typically survivors don't have the luxury of protection be it physical or economical. This aspect of the conversation centered victims rather than the perpetrators or their actions. You don't have to shame or throw Diddy, Kellz, Trey, Cosby under the bus to speak on their actions. Their actions have been diabolical. You can denounce it and still appreciate the art. Tank and J you may have really excluded or offended survivors in this interview. Glad this pod isnt generally rooted in opinion based dialogue. This segment could have been handled with much more care. Still loved the episode and love you guys. Super fan and supporter of the pod. ❤️
Thank you Kenny for advocating for change and coming through with Tender Love.....How lovely those feelings are!!!! R&B Money, Ya'll are a great for the soul!!! Thank you
Kenny spit straight FACTS!!!! Tank and J. Valentine…. Y’all ARE IT!!!! I just started watching this podcast and it’s the only way I see it; y’all are the gatekeepers, authority and the future Godfathers of R&B 🤷🏽♀️
Kenny is dope, and this conversation was so🔥🔥🔥I love how genius ya'll think, bringing in all kinds of folk to interview, knowing that the common thread is music. I love how this interview with Kenny reminded me on how deep Black music influences global business. Thanks to this pod I've learned SO much this year about people, culture and life. Keep up the good work guys, can't wait to see what's to come next year. Much love, abundance and more R&B money in 24.💸
Much respect to Kenny ... Talk that ish black man. They not ready for this conversation. I appreciate you for having the hard conversations needed. I hope the community hears you!!! It's time out for the bs.
Kenny Burns was the main party promoter at the AUC (Atlanta University Center) in the 90’s. He shaped the Atlanta 90’s club scene when I was at Morris Brown College! Club X’s, Warehouse & the Phoenix! If you know, you know. Witnessed his evolution! #Brownites💜🖤💜🖤
Not gone hold you.. the “butter wavy” line definitely threw me because I was thinking I know we not being colorist on here.. but I continued to listen! Beautiful episode! Kenny hit the head on the nail about all the topics plaguing our community overall! Generational wealth.. health.. the literal state of our culture! Beautiful episode! 👏🏾👏🏾
This interview was top tier! I love seeing a black man that is married for 20 plus years revere his wife/marriage! He definitely dropped some gems. The guys always do the damn thing. ❤
I love his straightforwardness and the way he thinks. It’s alright to have standards and to reject anything that doesn’t align with them. Grace and love and forgiveness doesn’t mean continuing to let any and everything slide. Grown people are too afraid to stand for something but always want to talk about “kids these days.”
haaaaaaa!!!! "You sing in your own key" he said!!! This was one of the most thoughtful interviews. Kenny I'm so proud to know you! This was real talk. I'm proud of you.
Leading with love is the ultimate goal. The goal is to know that love is the action not just a feeling or a word to play with. And Love by doing what is truly good and right with actions will reciprocate respect. Once people see that in an artist, then it will show through the music.
Great interview! Tank & J, I think you should consider hosting a monthly R&B Money Presents….where you either introduce a new artist or invite an existing artist to come and have a live performance of 2-3 songs, with you two giving a brief interview after the performance. You could just ask about what they have coming up next, etc… It could be in addition to the podcast. Isley Brothers, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, J. Valentine, Tank, etc…Just food for thought! A new wave for 2024!
"that exit was the beginning of my ascension" that's good.. sometimes you have to leave to get to where you're really supposed to be. All in timing. 💪🏽🙌🏽🔥
I'm so glad for this deeper introduction to Mr. Kenny Burns. I've been enjoying his IG commentary over the years, but this interview made me come to appreciate both his levity and depth! This was well beyond music and I appreciated the nuisance point of views he shared. We have to be okay with not accepting that everything that seems to be working is not also have lasting negative impacts. How much bad comes with the seeming good is very much worth examining and deciding is that ultimate only option.
That “..is that, my mind is telling me no but my body is telling me yes” took me out lmao. I had to pause there 😂😂😂 I knew where the minds were lol. This was so lovely to watch. We gon be alright! Love from DC ❤
I am SO glad that I was a Howard student during this time. The end of the 80s and early 90s were EVERYTHING! Every DC club that he named was great. #HUYOUKNOW #ThankgoodnesstherewasNOSocialmedia 💙❤️
Great interview as usual and I agree because I don’t listen to new music it just doesn’t have the feel and depth like 90’s-early 2000’s after 2014 hip hop ended for me it just feels like they made their money and that’s all that matters. So thank you to all the R&B artist still putting their baby toe in the music cause I’m still listening!
Maaan as much as I love this show this is a necessary episode me be an R&B artist, singer, songwriter , music producer & recording engineer a 100% it’s tuff sometimes but some how people will hear and know my name and music thank you R&B Money Podcast 💪🏾🙏🏾💯
When he said "we need gatekeepers, we need rules", I've been saying that for years. Musicians that make music for the masses need a skill set. They can't just rely on the melodyne, auto tune, and sampling.
"You know how long I've been loving music? [Tank] Pick one (straight faced)" had me ROLLIN!!!! Great interview fellas. I had a chance to film Kenny Burns here in NC and he told his story. Amazing down to earth guy.
I wholeheartedly agree with what he says about Hip Hop being dead, the bs gets pushed, and without love music is not the same! R&B is my only hope, unfortunately...
I am def falling more and more in love with the R&B Money Pod. K Burns always gives a great interview. J. Valentine's reaction to the top 5 song is always funny to me. He always has a different shocked/amused face.
I look forward to not only Tank's Top Five intro but the reaction of the guest and how they have to laugh or chant so they dont just sit there, funny llolololol
This was a very Powerful episode R&B$….This is my intro to Kenny Burns & I must say, “Thank You Sir for saying exactly what needed to be said & Thank You Tank/J.Valentine for allowing him to speak his truth “! #KeepInspiring🤘🏾✌🏾🫶🏾👏🏾❤️
I'm really glad they had him on here. It's a difficult conversation to have regarding abuse in the industry, but something does have to change (even in the larger world). This isn't a purely race based issue, this is a problem humanity has, particularly ppl in power. lovely interview.
I've never heard of this guy. He made this interview like one of those old Oprah show with the slow music to the commercial break serious. This is a debate question for 2024. This a keeper. Save it!
Man, R&B money family. This episode had me in my feelings few times…but when Tank brought the Minister into the conversation it brought me back into balance and now I’m back in love again. Enjoyed this episode and getting to know this brother💕
Around about 1 hour 15 minutes.....he is saying a lot of the same things Dee-1 is saying. As a black culture, we pass our children debt and bills. It's terrible and we need to change that. This interview is probably my favorite you all have done. He has put out a mandate and or call to action and I love it! YES YOU ALL ARE THE GATE KEEPERS SO KEEP THE GATES GENTLEMEN ❤
Tank, you said a WORD: We are ALL under GRACE, yet we offer NONE! Thank You!
I can’t wait until there is an episode with David Hollister. He’s in my top 5!!!
He’s truly Unsung
One of my favorite male singers
😮 Oooohhhhooooweeee!!!!!
And Donell Jones
@@madejori 😪😭😭😭 we are BEGGINGGGG!!!!!
Can we get an R&B money Spotify Playlist with every guests’ top 5 selections ??
Thats a great idea!
Awesome thought ❤
J Valentine know he can wear a silk shirt!!! 🕺🏾
😂❤
That man knows he is fine. Anything he put on, he looks so good 🥲

Jay you wrapped up the ENTIRE conversation beautifully at 1:49:32… I felt that 💪🏿
HE BETTA SAY Womack and Womack!!!!! When I tell you I listen to that song everyday LOL! Come on Kenny! 😂
These shows are hilarious. I love those segment songs “I ain’t saying no names and top 5 R&B singers/songs”. It Gets me every time.
Love Kenny Burns💫💫💫
When he said "we need gatekeepers, we need rules", I've been saying that for years. Musicians that make music for the masses need a skill set. They can't just rely on the melodyne, auto tune, and sampling.
This is hands down the best interview yall had! Homeboy is right!!!!! And we need to have this conversation more
"You know how long I've been loving music? [Tank] Pick one (straight faced)" had me ROLLIN!!!! Great interview fellas. I had a chance to film Kenny Burns here in NC and he told his story. Amazing down to earth guy.
I love me some Kenny Burns!!!!!

Tank’s vocals are like wine just gets better with time ❤
I am def falling more and more in love with the R&B Money Pod. K Burns always gives a great interview. J. Valentine's reaction to the top 5 song is always funny to me. He always has a different shocked/amused face.
YES, the Music Backdrop - Gatekeepers segments needs to magnified!! Let's get back to love and soul!! Glad he said it!!
I fcks with Kenny... he stands on business when he speaks about Hip-Hop and R&B.
I look forward to not only Tank's Top Five intro but the reaction of the guest and how they have to laugh or chant so they dont just sit there, funny llolololol
Admire Kenny Burns so much. DMV 🔥🔥
Truth was spoken.
K. Burns, I'm with you all the way. 🔥 IT ALL DOWN!

Save it!
Kenny had a lot to say, You hear me!!! This needs to be a conversation on a larger platform. His passion is infectious!!
I have to say this is up there in my favorite episodes of this podcast. Sheesh. 🔥 🔥
Now I have never wanted to know the name of any story until now whooooooooooooooooooooooooooo was it 😅
