I doubt if Montezuma was worried about 'too much bloodshed being shed', considering that blood was the lubricant that kept the whole Aztec system running... it was more a case of him being trained as a priest, without the necessary mindset to be an effective and savvy ruler... he was a religious fanatic looking for supernatural solutions and advice... his predecessor, Ahuitzotl was a practical minded conqueror and empire-builder. It was only his death that pushed Montezuma into a spotlight for which he was ill-prepared... had Cortez met up with Emperor Ahuitzotl instead of the vacillating Montezuma, things would have gone badly for the Conquistadores early on. They probably never would have even made it to the capitol. Although contact would have been made, European history in the New World would have been delayed by maybe ten years or so. By that time, however, Old World diseases including measles and smallpox would have still hollowed out the Aztec Empire, as they eventually did anyway. In fact, once the Spanish landed in force and set up Vera Cruz as their base, the indigenous tribes of Mexico were doomed, one way or another.

The Hopi speak of the Snake clan leaving present day Arizona to travel south into now Mexico .The SW US has several ancient sites such as Wupatki in Northern Arizona that was abandoned. Wupatkii is similar to ball courts found in present day Mexico, and parrot feathers were also found proving there was contact through trading and cultural ties.

For that matter, we all come from Africa, to some it just took us more or less to spread around the world. So know, there were Olmecs way before the Mexica, and Mayans which didn't speak a Uto-nahuatl language, and many other original inhabitants in the region. So, in the end, co-relation is possible, but the fact that matters the most is that they did thrive down here and became actual civilizations.

Whatever Cortes wanted to say to Monctezuma, he told it to the Soldier in Spanish, who then told it to Malinche in Maya, then Malinche told is to Monctezuma in Aztec. When it was Monctezumas turn to speak, he told it to Malinche in Aztec, Malinche told it to the former soldier in Maya, and he then told it to Cortes in Spanish. I think (?) what confuses some USA viewers is the very different fates of the, “indigenous,”populations of the USA as compared to those of Mexico.
So when someone says that the Aztecs aren’t around anymore that’s not literally wrong, but there are a lot of Aztec cousins around, and there are like 1.5 million citizens of Mexico that are native speakers of Nahuatl, the Aztec’s language. Compare that to the Lakota/Dakota language of the Sioux native peoples of the USA which has a few hundred native speakers.

@@pres5049 Well... you can base your judgements on what “sounds more reasonable“ to you, or you can research and rely on known facts about human physiology and motivations, elite runners’ speed over relatively short distances, the topology of the region, and mesoamerican road and relay networks.
The fact that your “reasoning”... assumes they were LITERALLY running through a “highly dense rainforest” (i.e. the vegetation itself!?. ...much of the Aztec empire was not rainforest, and they had a well-maintained road system)... and... “poissonuss crawlers”... and concludes with the ludicrously (LOL!) low number of 50km per day...? (Not to mention the assertion that it would be “impossible” on a flat surface!)
As I said, very difficult, HIGHLY unlikely that it was ever achieved in those real world conditions, but not “impossible”. (And certainly not WILDLY overstated, as you seem to assume.)

The Enlightened French used the guillotine to kill up to 100,000 people which included the slaughter of the Vendee just for being Catholic, where as the Inquisition had anywhere from 2000-3000 people burned at the stake in a 300 year period. I haven't seen any metal tools being spoken of or found but they had had tools and weapons that had more than worked for them at the time. Too bad they didn't decide to take the Spaniards' weapons from the get-go. History would be very different. They trusted them too much and had strong sense of the right ownership. .
