Lyrics:
An island in the sunlight
Laughter in the rain
A whisky in the darkness
It all feels just the same.
Watch the sunset over Hynish
See the twilight merge to dawn
Hear the waves caress the shoreline
As the island carries on.
I've been walking, walking these shores all my days
But with you by my side I am walking on the waves.
There's two lovers on the machair
And they walk down to the sand
Their silhouettes are on the water
As they paddle hand in hand.
And it's a game of sweet surrender
When there's nothing left to say
And there are moments to remember
Once these days are long away.
I've been walking, walking these shores all my days
But with you by my side I am walking on the waves.
So you look out on the ocean
See the headlands and the strands
And you wonder what horizons
Will shape tomorrow's plans
And through the turning of the seasons
And the cycle of the days
Every drink's another reason
To let tomorrow sail away.
I've been walking, walking these shores all my days
But with you by my side I am walking on the waves.
The surging of the ocean,
The breakers on the shore,
The echoes of our bodies,
To the lovers' dream we soar.
I've been walking, walking these shores all my days
But with you by my side I am walking on the waves.

I'm a MacDonald here on the shores of the Outer banks in the USA singing this exact song!
Just back from a holiday in Malta, March 2024 and heard this playing in a bar. Hadn’t heard it before but my friend and I thought it was fantastic. Quick
“Shazam” identified it and here I am putting it into my RUclips favourites.
Life is good.
My wife and I attended the Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo in August and heard this song performed by the entire cast of performers. As Americans we weren't familiar with it but everyone around us knew the words. After a bit of Googling, we found that you are the source of this incredible song. We've shared it many times. What an uplifting piece!
I was there and it was a fantastic night glad you enjoyed it
I found this song from the Tattoo as well!
Same here, saw it performed at the Edinburgh Tattoo and fell in love with it, even better sung by one band in its native style, beautiful
I found this from the Tattoo too, what an amazing song it is 🏴🏴
Me too!
Love this. Scotland is a wild, cold and wet place on the periphery of Europe yet it is full with the most warm, romantic and authentic people and cultures.
:'-)
hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hey

Luath. So true!!!.
This song has more heart and soul in it than 90% of music coming out today
Someone always has to say this.

Fucking epic !!!! Have a new favourite band , this is Scotland , Scotland Forever!!!!!
The Edinburgh Royal Military Tatoo led me to find this song.
It is like a hymn that evokes melancholy and joy, remembrance and expectation, at the same time.
It is a wonderful song....I will learn it and sing it!
Respect and admiration from Mexico 🇲🇽
Me too! Love it!
Same here!
Same.
Amazingly put. Hope you come and visit!
Well well - more recognition..... even if Robert has "skipped the ship" at the Tide Line. Were my ears deceiving me? No! "Walking on the Waves" as the closing song of the 2022 Edinburgh Military Tattoo!!! Well done. i hope the royalties are rolling in. Still one of my favourites. Slàinte!
Great song, and I saw the cast of many version at Edinburgh Tattoo, lent its simplicity of a song to the mass voice treatment of the shows cast. Really good
Logging on from California here (where we have some lovely shores of our own). Wifey and I took about 3 weeks motoring about Scotland last year, and we're both in love. With the land. With the countryside. With the people.
I don't know what to make of it all. Only know I wish I had not left it so late in my life.
So, all best from our coastline to yours!
I feel so lucky to have been brought up in the west of Scotland and greater still to have a connection to Tobermory. Skipenish are great and their songs make me very happy.
went out with a bunch of pals last night n got absolutely hammered ended up standing on a bench singing loads of scottish songs like this, loch lomond and flower of scotland. best feeling ever just singing as loud as you can n bouncing around with your closest friends
Brilliant! This song is a perfect example of where America's country music got it's roots! Can't wait to hear more of Skippinish!
Try Skerryvore
Miss my time in scotland. The most lovely people I have ever met.
Gra mor o mhuintir na hEireann. ❤️❤️❤️
I spent every summer as a kid in Tiree, love the place like nowhere else on earth. This band brings it all back. Lead singer sounds like a young Ronnie Brown of the Corries. Fantastic band.
Going in 3 weeks 🌅 my mum went every summer when she was young, this will be my first visit without her by my side, but her favourite place, so the best place to remember her ♥️
One fan in China. Would buy the album next time when I visit Scotland!

I now have an obsessed 6 year old! Robert was recently at Sgoil Gaidhlig Ghlaschu helping them with their translation of this song into Gaidhlig and has become my son Seamus's idol. He's not put his guitar down for weeks and it's great to see. Moran taing!

I keep telling myself that I only listen to Skipinnish because I love their music, but I'm gonna be honest: I'd listen to and watch Robert Robertson sing terms and conditions and still be just as obsessed :D
