Great result Jon. Especially after the strength sapping Ice Breaking work. 14Lbs Breaker bouncing!!!. Watched the version on the other channel. Well done to all of you.
So glad that it looks like you finally shook off the effects of that long covid … man you had a lot of your fans worried with the state of your breathing last year …. anyhoo good start to the new match season that weight in those conditions is fantastic … thankyou for sharing the match … atb
Very patient breaking all that ice and getting it cleared u deserve to win that much with the amount of effort , great video and congratulations on the win 👍
You would be the last person I would put down as having mental health ! So positive and high on life, you are amazing how you get this hobby across to useless fishermen like me, keep up the amazing work filming Jon, on the beautiful banks of British waters ❤
@@JonArthur I remember many years ago on the bridgewater canal at trafford park it was 6 inches thick one fella brought his chainsaw it was proper eskimo fishing lol🥶🥶
You should enter the Highland Games. Good job rope didn’t tangle round your ankle. Hard work but think where you were with Covid not so long ago. A day like this was unimaginable so great to see you back fully fighting fit…and frozen 👍
I've had a few near misses when the rope's sitting on top of the ice in the middle of a canal! My favourite ice breaker was lost by someone I leant it to on the Stainforth & Keadby. It got stuck 13m out and didnt matter what we did we just couldn't budge it, so we had to abandon it and I guess it's still there to this day, a bit like Excalibur! Now I don'y mind lending an ice breaker on the proviso that if they lose it they go in after it or pay me for a new one!
Great result Jon, I think you deserved it after the exercise you committed to just to fish. For by being nuts, you're a quality angler buddy Keep it lit my friend.
Now thats dedication i wouldn't of even been there to smash the ice but i gotta lot of respect for the lads n gals that are stil out there in these conditions thanks for the upload jon 👍
Good result put some hard work in surprised you had energy after throwing Big Bertha about hope the knows about her😂 use to to boldings fishing complex he ride a boat round with his dog sitting on the smashing it a lot less work👍
That is my worst nightmare having someone go round with a boat/speedboat as it just creates a lake full of icebergs making it too hard to fish... and the poor souls down the windward end get EVERYONE'S ice! 😂
Jeeez John, I’m lost for words. Anyway well done at least throwing the Big Bertha kept you warm. PS/ The Stanfo trays arrived and they are good for the lime pole rig winders. Just need to find a solution for the longer blue rig holders now. Thank you for your help John, much appreciated.
This dispels several angling myths......that fish are scared off by noise & vibration, that fish don't feed when it's freezing, & that Jon doesn't swear. He's quite artistic too.
Hi, I really like my 13ft Horizon Pro Waggler for general float work on rivers as its a light to medium action I guess. If you want something featherlight for very light hooklengths then Cadence do a No1 or even 0 (zero) float rod thats worth checking out.
You need to increase the sawing potential of your chain. A load of nut and bolts makes them 10x better and cutting and dragging the ice. Make sure the bolts are around 100mm min.
It's something I've considered a lot but it's a fine balancing act as I've seen so many awkward shaped chains and breakers getting stuck in very thick ice. My chain is twice the length of most others I see, thinner and doubled up, so I can get a good saw. A lot of people used to advocate chainsaw chains but it's something I've never looked into. We only ever do it a couple times of year, so it's not something I get chance to play with too much.
One rig did the lot with depths from 3.5ft to 4ft. All the ins and outs and feeding etc is on the extended edit in my members area, which is very cheap to join and over 80 films. Tight lines!
Well just goes to show that when you see anglers on there peg whispering and worried about noise it doesn’t really matter….the time and amount of noise you’d think it would effect the fishing…clearly not looking at the weights caught that day….well done jon fishing on days like that sort the men from the boys!!! lol
It always amazes me. Even when I scoop the rubbish out of my pond my golden tench and carp often wont swim away and just want to swim into the landing net. Fish are daft!
@@JonArthur see Jon if you want summat bigger or sharper I'm ya man I'm a welder fabricator and my 14lb hammer head as points welded to it so it cracks the ice easier I'd knock you 1 up no problem 👍
Ahh thats very very nice of you! It's very rare I ever need anything this extreme and tbh I have several breakers at home that are sharper cornered and probably as heavy, so I shouldve packed those perhaps, but I have a sentimental attachment to old Big Bertha and she hasn't let me down, plus its the only one with an extra long chain, which is something I dont see on many other people's breakers but v important in my opinion. By the time I get around to sorting different ones out it warms up and Im panicking and tying shallow rigs! Then when it goes extra cold Im too cold to go in the garage to sort something ha ha!
@JonArthur ha ha I know what you mean mate I can't wait for the warm weather again I've been fishing today had a great day at riddings fishery but blimey that waters cold on your hands
Mate, I thought you southerners were big softies. I take my hat off to you. It'd be a long boring winter for real softies like me if you didn't do what you do and post the videos. Thanks so much 👍
They had tried to clear a lot of pegs and kept the bubblers on as long as possible to keep some of it at bay but its a huge fishery and not sure how they would do 18 pegs when it took me over an hour just to do mine. Just a shame it had gone so cold so quickly yet now its 10 degrees and Im thinking about catching shallow!
I think back to when I started fishing in the 60's and I would use an Army and Navy gas mask bag for my fishing gear, sandwiches and a flask. Nowadays its wheelbarrows and thousand of pounds worth of tackle and a van to haul it all ! Did the fish get smarter ? :)
I personally think matches shouldn't go ahead like this, breaking ice to fish. Unbelievable. Tunnel should have pumps on to stop the water freezing overnight. Only my opinion mind. Great result. 👍
They did have their underwater bubblers on, hence the slightly thinner ice to my right with all the air trapped under it, which is where one of them was (there are loads in each lake) but the big temperature drop was too much for them
Anyone who goes fishing in that weather. Needs a check up from the neck up.. the wildlife have the right idea... Hybernate i am until end of February when the fishy wishy's wake up

No better thing than experience! This will help loads of people seeing how it's done even when it looks impossible 👍
I could have done a better job but it certainly gets knackering and you get the odd wayward ice breaker throw! :-)
Effort definitely led to success there Jon, well done, well deserved 👍🏻🎣
Thanks Kenny, turned out OK in the end! 👍
Very dedicated Jon, we've all been there at some stage, crazy fishermen with a love of the sport...
So true!
Very impressive Jon, well done on the match win 👍, but I take my hat off to you for preparing your swin with such persistence…
I should've settled for a smaller hole but I always want to get 'just a little bit further'!
A proper angler, well done mate and tight lines
😂 I am not sure if it was 'proper' fishing but I kind of enjoyed it!
There's an art to it Jon, well done.
Kind of! 😂
Brilliant that Jon think I’d have gone home when that sledgehammer bounced on the ice
I did question my sanity :-)
Well done Jon, fair play mate!
