- Today, I'm taking a nostalgic neighborhood tour of the famous and historic COCO CABANA Condo development and former hotel, in Palm Springs, California.
My friend Ken MacIntyre, a resident at the CoCo, is giving me a tour of his condo and also the grounds.
He and co-researcher Chris Shaw recently published a book on the history of this mid-century modern local landmark and talk a little bit about their new history and architecture book during my visit.
The complex first opened as a hotel in 1955 and is now available for long-term or vacation rentals through airbnb, VRBA and other condo and vacation rental sites.

I absolutely love how Ken took his condo back to the mid century look! It is like stepping back in time, fabulous! The grounds are fabulous. And how fantastic that a second edition book is in the works!

OMGosh! Once again, I just love the tours!! I also love mid-century modern and I'd love to start moving in that direction, but having some help with design ideas is something I could really use. Ken's condo is really great, and completely different from the previous owners. First, it's amazing what paint can do, and just the addition of a few pieces just makes such a difference. The landscaping is gorgeous!!

Loved this video !! There’s nothing like mid century modern. I grew up in one as a 1957 mid century girl myself! Lol. I enjoyed the three of you talking about everything. Robert Cummings was my neighbor when I lived in a condo in Nassau Bahamas. Wonderful man and he and my parents became friends. I just love Ken’s condo and those lush grounds! You keep surprising me with different content and I think I like it! (yes Subscribed a couple back) Never heard of the Coco property while living there but I'm glad to see that Ken remodeled his condo back to it's roots. Very nicely done. The book looks great too, I'll have to check that out as well. Oh, glad to hear you say "poodle cut" olive tree. I thought I was the only one that called it that! I never lived in a condo but my Uncle Ed age going on 97 he has a huge condo in Barryton Illinois .Uncle Ed takes care of himself has someone clean for him he drives to church or where ever plays golf tennis and is very active ! He is my Mom s and Aunt Mary s brother !

They would be a stones throw away from some Mimosa's, Martinis, and Music with Don Wardell over at the Aqua Caliente Casino hehehehe. (they should pay me for that plug hehehe)....and 3 stone throws away from the downtown Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon Drives where a lot of the action is.

What I always love about Palm Springs MCM architecture, low, flat buildings set amongst lush landscaping and tall palm trees. You just don't see that anywhere else, including here in Las Vegas to where grass is pretty much on its way out.

Steve, around the 11 minute mark you mentioned Cindy Williams possibly still owning a home in PS. Fyi, just a reminder that Cindy passed just over a year ago. This was a great video, really enjoyed seeing the Coco (that view is stunning) and now I'm jealous that a fellow Canadian owns a condo there!

Hi B, prices have gone up so much in Palm Springs in the past 10 years. I don’t think you can find anything halfway decent for under 500,000 anywhere in Palm Springs and that might even be a fixer! 😳
