hands down the most impressive, informative and inspirational speech I ever heard. And his choice to focus on survival mechanisms of the pows as opposed to the mistreatment was a very good choice . extremely eye opening.

This is really cool. Porter flew this plane with my Grandfather (Stanley (Stan) E. Olmstead). Really cool to see someone you hear so many stories about.

Even I thought that it was disgusting and I am British. It seemed very unfair.

I urge you to, if you don't already, listen to Jocko Willink's podcast - they are all great but to speak about Vietnam POW's in particular - Make sure not to miss the 3+ hours with Plumb and other POW's. They are not only moving but (despite my respect for and understanding that many experiences differed greatly- and even specific conditions changing over time) give more of a complete picture of the POW life and treatments. As I said I'm not citing some "failure to do so " in this presentation. Mr.Halyburton specifically says that doing so is not his primary objective in doing this presentation. The photo of his memorial stone alone speaks so much - and it's important to remember (even if we forgive) the Government figures who kept their status secret even when they had complete, cross-referenced lists of prisoners which were triple-checked with the Communists. Families were told, "wouldn't it be better to think of him as dead and move on?" This was the STANDARD STATEMENT if you will. They attacked the wives and families patriotism in even asking about the status of the warriors. You likely know all of this.

The Americans always love to play the role of victims. They love critics and hate self-critics. Only others peoples always inflicted and inflict horrible things to them - but they always remain on the side of the angels. They have astonishingly a long and good memory about the crimes indicted to them. But they forget their own ones against their own Indians, Jews, Negroes and Hispanics or the Germans, Vietnamese, Japanese, Koreans, Muslims... They remember well the incidents Lusitania, Pearl Harbour, 9.11 ....but they forget easily their own My Lai, Haditha, Abu Ghraib, Phoenix program, Christmas bombing, Dresden bombing, Hiroshima, Nagasaki ... Or simply they just granted themselves their most generous pardons and believe to remain Jesus´soldiers. May their God bless America as they always sing -again and again...
