    To make your cover different and less generic you could combine different cover songs in unexpected ways, creating medleys or mashups that blend the lyrics and melodies of multiple tracks. This can add a surprising twist to familiar songs.

    Hi, thanks for the video. As the copyright year I put the year the original song was released first. Now on my Spotify artist's page the song is shown with the copyright year and not with the published year, so in my discography the song is now far at the end of the list of my publications. Should I put the year my song was published into the copyright year-field next time I upload a cover? Or is that forbidden? Thanks a lot. Maybe there is someone who has the same issue..

    Only question is, when selecting the streaming stores, Apple Music is linked to iTunes and Shazam, so if we can't release covers without a mechanical licence to download stores is there a way to unlink Apple Music? or is it just not possible?

      LATOUR, RONALD, KORSAN, BROCK F are listed as the songwriters.

    HI, thank you for the information! What if you want to upload a cover with a video on RUclips? e.g. you singing the song in video. Would you need a sync license too? I still fin this so confusing and just want to do things legally. Thank you!

    • @mruk7
      @mruk7 Год назад +1

      You won't need a sync license for that. Sync license means you are running their song on top of your video. Since, this is a cover version so you are basically syncing your version on top of your video. For that you will need a mechanical license. If you get the mechanical license, you won't get any copyright claim. But, if you don't get the mechanical license, you will get a copyright claim as soon as your version is discovered. This is my understanding.

    For uploading an album of covers what should we put in the copyright holder and year (on the first page)? Do we need to put this info in individual tracks metadata only? Also it prompts us to not use generic words in release titles then what should be used in case it’s a cover album?

    Thanks so much Ditto, I'd really like a video on releasing remixes, I read I need a master license which I'm not sure how to get, but if I'm just gonna like toss it to tik tok, a little portion of a transformed song, I imagine I wouldn't need the lciense? only if. Irelease to platforms for royalties? If for instance I just use the lyric of a track and change everything else, the melody, the progression and instrumentation

    • @hectormayoral443

    Can you be a little more detailed about the difference between a cover or remix? For example: if you want to slow down a song and change the genre does that become a remix? What if you change the instrumentation and you record an acoustic version? Is there a video where you talk about this in more detail? Thank you.

    • @alina.luna_
      @alina.luna_ 3 года назад

      I personally did exactly that which is an acoustic slow down cover. For distribution I just submitted it as a cover not a remix

      Ditto told me that I need a Masters License, so they clearly don't know what they're talking about.

    • @jigsound
      @jigsound 2 года назад

      What you described as "remix" would apply to "arrangement" instead. Arrangement has a clear definition (you can look it up on your P.R.O.'s website) and, technically you would need to ask for a permission from the original copyright owner before releasing one. However, in this day and age, the line between arrangement and cover has become quite blurry, and even as this "slowed down, acoustic cover, in a different genre" would clearly be an arrangement by definition, it seems that the copyright holders often turn a blind eye to you not having requested a permission for rearranging.
      The technical difference between a cover and a remix is that a cover is produced from start to finish by you yourself, whereas a remix contains samples, stems, or even the whole original audio-to which you have done modifications. In the case of remix, you would certainly need a master license directly from the copyright holder to use their recorded audio material (asking for permission would also apply to the case of covers, such where you made a derivative work to the extent of changing the melody or lyrics - in the arrangement domain, again!) This video by Ditto, however, only covers covers. 😁
