    Stellantis is one of the few companies that sells relatively affordable B-Segment EVs in Europe; i.e. the Peugeot e-208, Vauxhall/Opel Corsa E, Fiat 500e etc. This is a segment that is very popular in Europe and very practical, but many other manufacturers (Tesla, Hyundai, Kia etc) have ignored up until now. I like the Peugeot e2008, I think it's a practical small-medium family hatchback crossever, but I'm put off by the relatively low range and non-EV platform, so I really hope they pull this off.

      I see it exactly as you. Once the STLA platform is out they will finally concentrate on EV and won't have to compromise the architecture for gas powered cars' sake. The groupe has been doing incredibly good since Carlos took over. I hope they'll succeed.

And the CEO doesn't exacly need to fully understand all the complex supply chains, but financing and economy, when and how to cut costs, how to advertise, how to efficiently use money, etc. Furthermore, they are making a lot of JV's in all of the EV supply chain (mining companies, startups, other OEM's, battery companies, made their own battery unit, EV startups etc)

    Front wheel drive is more advantageous on smaller and or cheaper cars. Cheaper to make and better for packaging. Simpler rear suspension , no rear Motor gives more cargo space

    • @netgnostic1627
      @netgnostic1627 11 месяцев назад +2

      This has been very true of ICE cars, where the space occupied by the engine/transaxle pair is triple or quadruple the volume of an electric motor and the single-speed transaxle. If the motor/transaxle pair is designed very low, plenty of storage space is available above it (in the back.) This allows the improved driving dynamics of RWD over FWD. Plus, you can still provide a "frunk" in the front end, which still adds up to more storage space than an ICE car in the same product niche.

    • @anvilsvs
      @anvilsvs 11 месяцев назад

      @@netgnostic1627 "improved driving dynamics of RWD over FWD". Mercedes and BMW have made that argument for many decades. You might note that their small cars are now FWD because they eventually had to concede that their argument was bogus. FWD advantage for small cars in particular is partly due to weight distribution which isn't an issue with EVs as the major weight is mostly battery centered in car for either FWD or RWD.

    • @SunRise-ul7ko
      @SunRise-ul7ko 11 месяцев назад

      @@anvilsvsNot bogus at all. Ever ridden in a BMW front wheel drive. The suspension had to be stiffened up & improvements in tyre technology, like using Michelin sports cup 4S tyres. This all comprises ride quality to get similar dynamics. Front wheel drive has an advantage in packaging, and on snow & ice. However there is a reason formula one race cars use rear wheel drive. That is to maintain the best compromise between traction & weight. A formula one car needs to be kept light to corner fast, to make the maximum benefit of downforce, while, giving the most traction during ecceleration, without compromising weight by adding 4 wheel drive. Simply rear wheel drive, in a well balanced car with a limited slip differential, will have better traction under ecceleration than a front wheel drive, all things being equal, like tyres, suspension & horsepower to weight ratio.

    14 kWh per 62 miles is getting better coming to around 4.43 miles per kWh however that still doesn't surpass the 5+ miles per kWh you got and still get from the original Nissan Leaf in real world mixed city/highway driving. When are they finally going to make new EV's that are more energy efficient than those decade+ old designs from Nissan/Renault?
    Many want more energy efficient EV's not more insane performance levels.
    Yes, I really do hope that Stellantis pulls this off and does actually deliver the goods. They said previously that they were going to be learning from the other manufacturers mistakes by waiting a bit and not being on the bleeding edge so it will be nice to see the fruitage from doing that.

When I was a young man I once drove an electric car, it looked like a sort of a telephone box that was on the run, and the range was about 50km, and ofcorse you had to think about the range - today the range is x10, and people speak about range - it is funny - 😅

    But why do they use / mis-use all the space in front.?
    EVs do not need a big "thing" in the front.
    E-motors are placed between the wheels - and take a minimum of space.
    -Giving room for a nice and practical "Frunk".
    -This is a design - from the ICE age...

    i dont agree with your assessment of Carlos...he is basically saying that without the charging infrastructure and government incentives it will hurt the middle class. hes not wrong in the short term...he basically thinks its unfair that governments around the world are putting the onus on the manufacturers instead of doing their part to facilitate the smoothest transition possible. in that regard he is spot on. sure he may not be as excited about the transition as you are but hes not a luddite. he knows the car industry has to adapt or die...he also has taken over a lot of struggling brands so it chafes more to have to conform to the transition more than brands that were already in a strong position. also high end brands in the portfolio WILL get 800v architecture...its the more mainstream brands that will make do with 400v

    Under the usual Stellantis BS there may be a grain of truth. Up to now all European Stellantis brands (Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Opel, Vauxhall..any more?)...have had battery supply from China. Last year their JV with Total and Mercedes led to the opening of their 8 GWH pilot plant at Nersac which is about 60 km south from where I live. On 30th May this year the first Gigafactory in France opened at Douvrin from that same joint venture. It will take a few years to ramp up but is supposed to be capable of 40 GWH a year..enough for a few million small mid sized EVs. So maybe the new platform will take those batteries and being built next door to the Citroen plant, they could work out a lot cheaper.
