For me, Diana never sounds like a man. I think more properly to refer to her voice as a maternal one. Mother-bear which takes care about her pet, or mother-Russia or mother-Nature. Sometimes Diana sounds even as a living goddess, f.ex. listen to her growl in "Human" (better choose the latest performances).

Great first reaction to this very unique performer! She is indeed a surprise when you first encounter her. Diana is a true dynamic contralto- the rarest female voice. She’s also polyphonic- so she’s basically her own auto-tune. As an aside, she has a very tragic back story filled with abuse, torture and near death ( it’s worth looking into) nonetheless she has a beautiful spirit that is undiminished and that shines through for all to see. I don't know if you reacted to this Diana song and I just didn't find it, but you should also check out: "Rechenka" ("River", in English), which is a spellbinding ancient Russian folk song. Be sure to choose her original performance that she sang for a vocal competition at age 14. There's also videos of later concert performances, but they don't have the dramatic staging.
Hearing a true contralto for the first time is always a ride, but that's how much weight and depth of timbre they have. She sang before she could speak (speech issues that required therapy and that included singing lessons). She's actually an expert yodeler. You tend not to hear that kind of stuff in her western covers (because it wouldn't make sense), though her break sits so low she does sometimes yodel flip up. If you watch her Russian folk performance of Rechenka you'll see a lot of her trademark stylistic choices in full display. Blizzard is another good performance. Her recent performances of Derniere Danse are also fantastic. Her original songs are in my chill playlist, as they are very relaxing. She has great covers of 80s songs like Take On Me that you wouldn't expect. A great Scorpions cover for a song I never liked until she covered it. She's an expert at yodels, dissonance, harmonics (polyphonic overtones and subharmonics). Her subharmonics are so good I'm still trying to figure out how she does it. I only know the vocal fry technique for entering subharmonic register.
