I grew up on the other side of the canal when the changes owned the property there were 6 houses there. All pau now. I spent my childhood surfing and fishing this area such a trip to see. My friends told me that it wasnt bad but you can see that with just one meter more the power of all that water moving in is deceptively deadly. You could tell that the water flow direction was sweeping around wailupe peninsula which is to the west of the Aina haina canal. Glad you all are safe. Mahalo for post

This is the first major tsunami that hit hawaii since the 1960s. The 1948 tsunami was from Alaska and the second was from Chile.

Sprinkler was probably being used to save the grass. All of the salt water running through the yards would have killed the lawn.
