I watched this not long after it was first posted years ago. To this day in 2018, I have yet not found any video where anyone covers it better than Jack. PHENOMENAL!
Ed Munoz that's where Marcus Pintor has a point. The player matters the most. I have one too and can't make it sound as good either. I was simply saying squier isn't too bad. Good for the money.
+Žonatan Rivera the guitarist is amazing, no question about that. But this Squier is a Classic Vibe, as expensive as a Fender Mexican Standard. They are actually pretty good :)
Many years of this cover and still in the top !! Incredible cover and technique ! This cover shows you don’t need a 5k guitar, he plays the best cover with a squier ! Really amazing all my respect to this guy!
By reading some of the comments, yes he's playing a less than expensive guitar but obviously he's got a great tone and yes, it may be because of the effects! But what's wrong with using effects? The most professional players hence (Eric Johnson) with the most well built guitars even use effects! It's about what sounds good for the style. Of course even a dry sound sounds good depending on the style of music. It matters more to me how a guitar feels and stays in tune rather how it sounds because I can always tweak the sound via amp and effects unless of course I want a dry clean sound then it's about the guitar & pickups. Obviously the amp as well
Each guitarist has their own tricks or methods of how they get to an acceptable duplicating sound of their favorite artists;but the key is;they got it by trying and maintaining it for their own learning and playing needs.. Jack did a pretty good job with tone on this run through for me as far as sound;but it was also shot a good while back;and he's much better at playing and setting gear sounds now. Thumbs up for Jack.
This is the cover I’ve been coming back to for years and years. It’s the impeccable timing, most other covers speed through the parts they think they can do faster and hesitate in other parts. Perfect timing, the emotion coming through, the technique is on point, the way you humbly shred this… magical.
This is awesome. He plays great. As for comments saying it's not note perfect like the original you should spent more time watching Eric Johnson play it on different live videos. He does it a little different each time. There is no "one way" to play the song and thankfully a great artist like Eric Johnson or Jack Thammarat can just go play from the heart and soul and not a lot of memorized note for note renditions. What a boring thing that would be.
Look at him just loving it. Loving his music and loving playing it. Makes me love this video and this cover all the more. Doesn't help I'm biased because this is my favorite song of all time. He plays so well and clean and he loves loves loves his craft, his art. That coupled with the amazing music make this video watchable over and over and over. All in all 10/10 will watch again.
14 years later, this is still likely the best cover ever uploaded. Gustavo Guerra Covers: Yngwie Malnsteem: Far Beyond the Sun might be second.thoughts?
@@minisurfbanana thanks for the reply. Hard to argue either is better. If you like covers like I do, check out this guy I’ve found. ruclips.net/video/awpcCvX6JAk/видео.html
1:54 he plays this part in time. Eric Johnson always rushes the next set of triplets when he shifts his hand. I'm a percussionist, not a guitar player, so I don't know how hard that is to play, but it just always kinda bugged me that Eric rushes it slightly.
Thanks for pointing that out! I noticed while listening that it somehow sounded different yet better than the original but couldn't put my finger on exactly what he was doing.
I've always been a Fender guy but not once did I show interest on a squier 'til i watched this video a few about two years ago. I own a Classic Vibe now and I'm going for a Contemporary soon. Fender should give you some sort of accreditation my friend. Great job!!
+Martin Palmisano $400 really?! I started playing on a Squier and I swear it was about £150 (maybe $220) new? Maybe I'm mistaken, or that's just how much they were 10 years ago. Either way, Jack makes it fucking sing
Loke Phoenix Yeah, they are about 400 new here, but you can get them used for half of that. I have a Squier tele that I really like. This guy does make it sound sweet......would like to see his set up.
It's a stock Classic Vibe Squier 50's strat.. he has other videos with modified ones, like a modified 60's Classic Vibe playing Manhattan. CV are the high end Squiers, the ones Loke is talking about is the Affinity's which are the lower models.
Actually those old 70's-80's Squiers are very often better quality than brand new Fenders. Read about some old 'Made in Japan' guitars made in Matsumoku. If you don't care about brand on headstock these are veeery good and cheap guitars in compare with brand new or old american Fenders/Gibsons.
This guy is a fucking alien. Not of this Earth-This shit is spot on perfect. His tone and fluidity makes me want to smash my guitars. Cheers man this gave me fucking chills.

The Chicken Monke OK then buddy... let me give you a knock off guitar and try to play a song. Then let me play a nice guitar. But we both know the same songs and have mastered it. Lets see which one spits out better sound. Guitar quality does matter and so does the player.
Thats true and its not. My friend Phil and I tried it with my epiphone LP against his Gibson LP standard, and everyone though my guitar played and sounded better. Plus, I have a cheap S series Ibanez that plays beautifully and my uncle has a higher end model that has dead frets.
2024 and still the best cover!!
This cover is the only version I listen to. I think it’s better than the original.
@@ChronoX23X Completely agree!
The same to me. Jack's playing is so good. ❤
do you ever sit and wonder how Johnson came up with this song? the way the fretting hand moves around throughout the sound is mind boggling.
prozacania EJ himself said he literally wrote this under 5 mins, only god knows what was going on in his mind
In my mind I have made quite some amazing songs as well. Unfortunately they stay in my mind.
@@daiyoung6078

haha, do you mean the note number 464,334th ?
Update. I can play this song now.

You haven't watch rick graham
Took me a long while to learn this intro but these aren't all the actual notes. Great cover nonetheless!
Sleeper uk
Yea boiii
I would have to agree with Rick Graham's performance being one of the best, but Otto Reina does an amazing cover as well.
just to prove everyone out there. it's not the guitar that sounds good, it's the player. this is a squier for crying out loud.
Marcus Pintor It's a Squier Classic vibe. The Classic Vibe series from Squier is really good for the money. Squier isn't all that bad.
+Daniel Gil They sound ok and are a good, low-end guitar. I always liked them even though I couldn't make it sound like he does..
Ed Munoz that's where Marcus Pintor has a point. The player matters the most. I have one too and can't make it sound as good either. I was simply saying squier isn't too bad. Good for the money.
+Marcus Pintor Jeff Healey(may he rest in peace) was using a modded MIJ Squier as his main guitar and the guy had a massive tone.
If you choose the right squier they can be really good for practicing and starting
Very nice, Jack. You prove that it's not the guitar; it's the player.
Way to rock a Squier!
+Žonatan Rivera the guitarist is amazing, no question about that. But this Squier is a Classic Vibe, as expensive as a Fender Mexican Standard. They are actually pretty good :)

Comment level: Perfect.
Its the player
But the guitar helps a lot
Very true but squiers sound good anyways
He set the bar so high.. you cant even see it!

thats the best squire they make at the moment, and they are really decent guitars and for the price its really good

Not better than Eric Johnson's original. That's a exaggerating to say.
+hercules too too guess it's because the guitar bass is more boosted than the actual studio version that's why

Control and precision are awesome. Played note for note flawlessly.
Very well done, sir!!!
Especially for such a difficult piece. ;o)

Actually it dont seem that hard, its mostly hammer ons and pull offs probably, and what makes it hard is the amount of notes

He's already up there with Steve Vai.

can't believe this was uploaded 2008. Still it sounds like way better than upcoming covers in the future.
your pinky could kill a spartan
Nice improve added onto the solo
lol the whole songs a solo :)

It's almost like that was the joke or something :)
Agreed I loved the way he doubled it back I think Johnson would love this rendition 😁
His improvisation is fantastic
Dude that was too good.... And ilove your tone Man U killed it
This kid took a very difficult song and nailed it.Its the player.Who gives a shit if it is a Squire, he made it sing.
