    I have the model DTR 550 and DTR 650, pretty great radios with the digital aspect instead of the analog, works well and preforms well in certain areas while on bike rides

      The spread spectrum is the great. Outside of california where the 900 MHz ism band isn't flooded the range is actually really good.

    Used to 900mhz wireless phone back in the day, they werre awesome. i upgraded to 2.4ghz and the range sucked. That was before I understood longer wave lengths are better.

    The quality of the Motorola stands out. The difference between 0.5 watts and 5 watts is only 1 signal point at receiver, although audio normally has a better increase.

      Neither of these are 5W. The 2.4 GHz radio is I think 100mW.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  3 года назад +7

      Thanks! They're not manufactured anymore, but I found some used on ebay. If you're in the US or Canada you can get the DTR 700 instead which works on 900 MHz and is newer but operates with the same technology. Or you can get the 900 MHz version of the DTR 2450 which is called the DTR 650.

      @@radiosification Thanks for the information on these. I'm from the UK too, I'm interested as they're licence free. I remember the i355's needed Nextel sim cards in order for them to be able to operate as a two way radio or 'direct connect' as they were calling it back then, the 900mHz were great for penetrating walls and good in the city. Anyway thanks again, keep up the great content 👍

      @@starrcadeius there are some really cool videos about the i355s on RUclips. I remember seeing a range test out in the US where they had a guy driving miles away and talking. I remember really wanting some of those phones/radios haha

    Notice how the digital transmission does garble a bit the further away you go,analogue does not but it carrys to much white noise so its a difficult choice for some. ive seen american reviews of DMR and again it carrys that garbled audio which you dont get with analogue but does seem cleaner at shorter range.

    Pretty neat unique variant, 2.4 is a crap band though i would honestly just get some of the 900mhz normal ones exported and pirate them. FHSS doesn't give off much of a noticeable signature and you'll always be on the move anyways so no big deal.

    The Retevis is not an official PMR446 radio and the min power is 1 watt. However interesting test the Motorola would be more concentrated on local use. I wonder if you could tap into the 2.4ghz and make a repeater using WiFi Router's 🤔

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  3 года назад

      They sell is as a PMR446 radio and it says 0.5W on the back.
      No you can't use WiFi routers on the dtr radios, they use a completely different system that won't be able to communicate with WiFi. It would be cool though if you could
