Nope that was a 1000% on you. The second you hoped out without checking to see it latched I saw it coming. That said it looked like you all were having a day and crap happens.
A right before you got stuck it got a little western on them bumps and your fifth wheel latched, you can see the handle is already in before you backed under. Just banged against the pin. Very smooth recovery, Rick. Everyone did his job, and your crew left no traces that anything happened. And the important thing was nobody was injured and no equipment damaged.

Great job! We learned the hard way on our M543A2 to put a big shackle in the pintle hook when using ropes (although not that large) because the fibers can wedge into the gap between the top and bottom jaw putting too much pressure on the latch and breaking it or stripping the rope thru it.
Looks like freebird could use some new tracks. I love watching you guys help people and I love helping people too. Like you said about free bird I say about my power wagon. If one part of line won’t do it double it or triple it till it comes out. Great job crew!
Been driving for almost 30 years and now retired. Also done heavy haul. Awesome recovery. I hate haters. I have dropped a few trailers because of a faulty fifth wheel.
