I think that's why the jump scare from Haunting of Hill House works so well. Theres not a single other jump scare like that throughout the entire show, so you absolutely are not expecting anything like that
Like Chelsea said, when they're done right and well, they're fine. My favorite example is in the American The Ring from 2002 when Rachel is watching the tape of Samara's session with the lighthouse's light appearing every now and then, illuminating the hall behind her and on the third light I think, Mr. Morgan is standing there. It's awesome, especially because it's without any sound effect. Don't get me wrong, you can use sounds. Just as long as they make sense. As long as they're sounds the characters can hear in their world, not just a loud bang when someone appears. And don't get me started on the typical all sound drowning out, panning the camera one way and then....we all know what happens. Fuck. That.
I dunno; pretty sure Hitchcock could’ve pulled it off, too. Then again, that man could’ve made a recitation of the Glasgow telephone directory entertaining and suspenseful.
I'm so glad Chelsea mentioned the Norman Osborn Scene in Spiderman... That scared the he out of me! I swear, the first time I saw it, my heart was still pounding 5 minutes later!
Lol the bifth of schpooky was the creepypasta video. After the first story James says "spooky," but by the last one he's jumping out of his chair "SCHPOOKAY!!!"

While not a horror movie, The Dark Knight has one of my favorite jump scares in cinema. The scene where the corpse of one of the Batman impostors slams into the mayor's office window in full Joker makeup after a dialogue heavy scene between the mayor and Dent. That scene has always stuck out to me and one that still startles me upon repeated viewings. It also serves as a turning point in the film. Up until this jump scare, Batman and the police have focused more on the mob than on Joker. Despite acknowledging his existence earlier when they are investigating the bank that the Joker robbed in the opening scene, Batman asks Gordon if taking him down is more important than the mob. So even then, he is almost an afterthought to Batman and the police. It is no coincidence when this jump scare comes off immediately from a scene that is the good guys believing that things are going to go well for the rest of the film. It switches their attention from the mob to this madman who is going to give them all hell by the time the credits roll. It is a clever use of a jump scare to not only get a reaction from the audience, but to signify a major shift in dynamics in the film.
Great job with the podcasts, they may not get as many views but they’re my favourite part feeling like I’m part of a conversation and especially one about jump scares

Favorite jump scare: hereditary- the mom in the corner of the bedroom over her son in the night. Just the fact that she’s always there but then you just suddenly see it
The best one and the only jump scare I would consider from Hereditary is when the camera pans down and she’s standing in the corner behind her son, then suddenly she starts chasing him. That’s a great jump scare.
"When James and I did Insidious we didn't want any cats jumping out, no false scares. Our rule was if someone's gonna knock on the window, have it be the devil." - Leigh Whannell (from an episode of The Core on Shudder) I just love that mentality and feel like it really shows how much Wan and Whannell respect not only the genre of horror, but the dedicated fanbase that support their movies. Underrated jumpscare is the first child's play, when Karen goes to check and see if Chucky has batteries in him, and when she realizes he didn't, he spins his head around and then say the famous line "im chucky wanna play". I rewatch that scene, and I wish I could go back in time and watch that movie completely blind. Because I guarantee that scene would scare the shit out of me. The first night I saw it, I had a panic attack in the theater during the movie. The haunting of hill house has one in the 8th episode that's scary, poignant and segways into a great emotional monologue that had me tearing up. not gonna go into detail to prevent spoilers, but it's just the best use of it I have ever seen.
Loved this episode! My favorite jumpscare is the exploding kitchen in Paranormal Activity 2. It is great because the film (and the prequel) has trained the audience to relax when the night ends. But after the kitchen explodes, you never relax again!
The tall man scene in It Follows is such a fantastic example of a jump scare. the tension is high for the whole scene, and it's a very good fake out with Yara at the door. That music cue is just, ugh, perfect for a fantastic scare. i have the soundtrack on my Spotify, and that last bit in Company still makes me shiver.
Jaws is one of my fav jump scares ever. For recent films, the conjuring clapping scene scared the crap out of me. It actually made me yell out in the theatre, which I can't even ever remember doing. For the false waking up scare, In the mouth of madness has a good one. Great episode!
Can we get a Stephen King movie adaptation podcast?? I mean that’s a roster of the shining, Carrie, it, pet semetary, cujo, Christine, the green mile, Shawshank Redemption, stand by me, the list just keeps going!
Why you overlooking my Tommyknockers, Langoliers, Thinner and the true King (least at the time) Maximum Overdrive? 😏😂 I agree, but now I want a best episode and worst episode. 😜
I've got an example of the mirror scare: there's one in Edgar wrights shaun of the dead. Where shaun closes the cabinet and reveils a zombie in the shower
I LOVVEEEE the scene in Halloween 2018 when Laurie is searching the house for Michael. I’ll never forget how I felt in the theater just BEGGING for Michael to pop out so I don’t have be so the suspense to FINALLY over 😂😂😂
Some of my faves: 1. The door slam from “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” 2. Annie’s death in “Halloween” 3. Alan Arkin leaping out of the shadows at Audrey Hepburn in “Wait Until Dark” 4. The wheelchair at the top of the stairs in “The Changeling” 5. The end of “Friday the 13th” 6. The hand clap from “The Conjuring” 7. The feet licking scene in “Gerald’s Game” 8. Liv Tyler seeing bag head for the first time in “Strangers” 9. Clever girl from “Jurassic Park” 10. And I have to mention “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” The scene where the UFO appears behind his truck and then everything goes crazy and then it gets silent right before his flashlight turns back on. That is a master class in film making.
One of the "scariest" jump scares ever to me was the one in The Haunting of Hill House when Theo and Shirley are in the car on the way to the house. That got me so bad when I first saw it.
I said this at the beginning and now I'm to that point in the podcast, incredible 😂😂😂😂 that scene is terrifying and I didn't know it was such a widely known jump scare
The jumpscare that has stuck with me the most is when the witch jumps from the wardrobe in the first Conjuring movie. That was the first horror movie I willingly watched and I was totally prepared for something scary to come out of the closet but then it misleads you when it's revealed that the monster is on top of the closet. Easily the most effective jumpscare I've experienced in my life.
My favorite jumpscare is in The Ring when the girl on the TV says "Daddy loves the horses" and then it cuts to behind where the guy is just standing there, it's completely silent, so it doesn't make you jump, it just makes you piss. One classic I'm surprised you didn't mention is the most infamous moment in Deep Blue Sea.
I've never seen it because it wasn't an appealing to me but this sounds really scary. Idk who Large Marge is but... yeah I can only imagine, she sounds scary.
Another great research episode guys! Loved the history and the psychological reasoning for the jump scares. I also wanna thank you for NOT putting sound and music for scares since I usually watch the videos of the pod first and because I am a person who's flight response is high lol. Can't wait for the Re-Animator Kill Count series to start and as always next week's podcast!
Did anyone ever see "Flight of the Living Dead, Outbreak on a plane" I haven't seen it in years, but at the end of the movie it shows a bunch a zombies walking off into the distance, and then out of f*cking nowhere, the scariest looking zombie in the movie, just pops up in front of the screen along with a scary sound, then the movie quickly cuts to credits... I had that image stuck in my head for a long time, haven't gone back to that movie since, I was terrified!
I agree, that was really well done. The dreamlike atmosphere, mixed with the great acting, and the anticipation that you ARE expecting something in the alley but you don’t know when it will appear.
My favorite jump scare is from Jurassic Park, when Ellie gets the power back on, and she's saying "Mr. Hammond, I think we're back in business!" And then the raptor comes through the pipes. It's so damn good. I know it is coming, and it *still* gets me every damn time!
The jump scare that most got to me was that scene in "Twilight Zone The Movie" when Dan Aykroyd ask his fellow ambulance driver if he wants to see something really scary. I was only three when I first saw it and it's one of my first memories.
Same movie, but the gunshot kid walking past behind Cole in the hallway gets me every time (mostly the noise). Then when kid turns around after saying he'll show Cole where his dad keeps the gun and the back of his head is gone.
Sixth sense had some of the best scenes of sheer terror of any movie. The screaming woman in the kitchen is terrifying. Kind of ties into another jump scare that happens earlier in the film where the mom walks in the kitchen and every drawer and cabinet is open.
Omg yes! The whole movie honestly is full of jump scares. Like the build up and the part with the woman inside the car... thats a genuinely scary psychological thriller and horror film too.
@monkey gaming I’m 14, and I watched it while dog sitting my at neighbors house for the whole week, which I’d never been to, at 1 am… and I can send you some rlly scary stuff if you want
I know it’s not a horror film, but Signs always left a scar in me with 3 scenes in particular. The first being the damn chase scene where you see the alien’s leg as it flees into the corn field. Then the other scene is where Joaquin Phoenix is watching the news and the alien walks across some Mexican children’s party and his reaction perfectly emulates how I felt. And afterwards when they are in the night hiding out in the basement and the aliens hand is there all along and the kid is cozying up next to some old radiator and gets choked out.
Conjuring 1, with the long shot with the girl banging her head on the closet thing. Then the sister brings her back to bed for only her to point at it, the older sister goes over, with the camera not showing the top of the closet thing, then this loud sound plays showing the witch on the closet. That got me SO much.
Just wanted to say that I have never listened to a whole podcast in my life, and I mean NEVER 😂 (even though I've intended to lots of times), and I've been binge watching your video podcasts for weeks now (I think I've watched like 40 or so), so thanks a lot, you guys are amazing! Love you two and your videos (I also like the kill counts a lot). Many thanks and love from Spain! 💕
Another of my favorites is in The Walking Dead season 3 (spoilers) when Axle is killed by the Governor. You know the Governor is getting ready to attack the prison, Rick’s group is aware of the threat, but they just don’t know when. Axle and Carol are outside talking to each other and BAM! Axle is shot right in the fuckin’ face and dropped! Carol has to quickly duck behind his body and shield herself. It’s perfectly timed and scared the hell out of me the first time!
Unfortunately, the trailer had spoilt it for me, so I knew it was coming. For Chapter 2, I deliberately avoided teasers and trailers and enjoyed the film a lot more thanks to that choice.
@@daelenstonemeier490YES!! I saw the movie in the theaters with my dad and that part made me jump in my seat! The same thing also happened with the scene under the bleachers in It Chapter 2!
for me the biggest jumpscare is one of the more subtle kinds from crimson peaks with the ghost face making a growling noise as it looks to the heroin in a pitch black room, exposing only it's hand holding the door and it's creepy darth mal face, before shutting it quickly. it's a 2 second spook but to this day when that scene rolls around I have to cover my eyes. I cannot handle it.
Loud noises always make me jump, but most of the time the scares that really *scare* me are when it pans or cuts to someone or something out of place in the dark or background with no obvious focus or sound cue that scares you only after you realize it's been there, silently the whole time (haunting of hill house is also filled with these)
One of the scariest jump scares of my childhood was the witch in Sleepy Hollow. She chains herself up and you're like what's about to happen then she's got this crazy face coming at you
One of my favs is from "I know what you did last summer" Anne Heche's characters out of no where bangs on Jennifer love hewitt's car window because she forgot her cigs. Its broad daylight but the two characters in the car are having this "we used to be besties" heart to heart, barely talking above a whisper and it gets me every time!
i swear to god the most scared I've ever been from a jump scare is the really inocunous looking hitchhiker in that twilight zone episode just walks into the foreground of the screen, my GOD
The scene in the Conjuring with the demon on the top of the armoire literally made my heart sink when I watched it the first time. Definitely why it is on my list of favorite horror movies. Also I just recently watched Goodnight Mommy and I’m not sure if it counts as a jump scare, but the scene with the scissors and the blood [trying not to spoil], also made my heart drop and made me jump w/o Any large buildup of music or loud sounds, just pure tension. Honestly one of my favorite scares as well.
My favorite jumpscare of all time that really just dug into my soul was the closet scene in the conjuring. When the camera pans up on Bathsheba's face. Man I could've shit myself 😂 Holy hell. To this day, that messes with me.
To me one of the most underrated jump scares is from The Descent and it gets me every time. You know which one it is if you’ve seen it. It’s not the ending. It’s one that happens in the cave with one of the creatures.
honestly hearing chelsea say she goes through horror mazes with her ears plugged makes me feel a lot better about the fact that I do too.... the ambient noise even can be excruciatingly loud. it's just so overwhelming
I can’t believe no one mentioned the classic “focus on something in the foreground while something walks/runs past in the background” (I.E. the alien at the birthday party in Signs)
One of my favorites is one that you mentioned in the podcast: the scene in Adam's apartment in the original SAW. He knows someone is there, the audience knows, its dark and he's creeping around using the flash making that high pitch whine, and then suddenly the pig head. I think it MAY also be the first instance of the pig head in the movie, making it extra surprising. In my opinion it's a really effective jump scare that makes sense in context, despite being in a movie/series that doesn't normally lend itself to jump scares.
Two movies that consistently have at least one great scare: 10 Cloverfield Lane & The Exorcist III. Two of the best examples of suspense. Especially the hallway scene in Exorcist III. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and it scared the absolute shit out of me. Every time I watch it, it still gets me.
One of my favorite jump scares is in a Quiet Place when the fire tips over. It shouldn’t be that scary because i saw the fire tip over, but how loud it was in a very quiet movie really got me
A jump scare that affected me growing up was the one in M. Night's "Signs" where Graham is in the corn field at night. I don't know if it counts as a jump scare because there is no blaring music, but that shit was SPOOKAY nonetheless. Also, thank you Chelsea for not editing in any jump scares
the 2 jumpscares that truly cost me some years of my life are: "Inland Empire“ the close up of the face, and " Don't look now" the scene with the dwarf.
My 2 best "jump scares" are probably 1. The tongue click sound that happens randomly in the car and 2. A still picture suddenly moving when the character is looking away. Always creeps me out.
19:10 I actually experience the opposite of this! I have an anxiety disorder, and I find that because I'm almost always on edge and anticipating something, I tend not to react to jump scares or someone trying to startle me. On the other hand, I'm very easy to scare when I'm actually relaxed or feeling safe lol
The one that got to me so bad when I was a kid was the one in Nightmare on Elm Street. The last time Nancy wakes up from her dream and she says: “I’m crazy after all”. Not being that experienced with horror movies at that point I jumped along with Freddy whom appeared from behind the bed all of a sudden. Great jump scare.
Exorcist 3 is by far my favorite jumpscare, because its the only one that affected me so much to where i was still thinking about it days after and part of me would freak out when leaving a dark room.
Bev’s toilet jump scare in IT was one that truly got me, and the end of unfriended, where the laptop closes, I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t see it coming and it honestly got me so well
The bed jump scare also counts with one of my favorite "scares" where in Teen Wolf season 1, Scott had just flirted with Allison and the music is all like upbeat and peppy as he lays down in bed all wistfully until the music gets quieter and he rolls around in bed to end up on the forest floor and I just - think it's really cool!
Annabelle: Creation is easily my favorite new supernatural horror movie because even though it was a lot of jumpscares, all of them were really well executed and actually frightened me every single time. Also the suspense was really excellent the whole movie, so I think that’s a huge reason why they worked so well.
Jump-scares in horror, are like cursing in comedy; overuse cheapens the mediums, but when used sparingly they can offer effective punctuation.
That's a really good way of putting it.
..talk about copy and paste
Quazari Rush
No, we're talking about jump-scares, Silly.
I think that's why the jump scare from Haunting of Hill House works so well. Theres not a single other jump scare like that throughout the entire show, so you absolutely are not expecting anything like that

The most effective jump scares to me are the Stomach mouth scene in The Thing and The spider jump scare in Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal
That scene in The Thing damn near gave me a heart attack the first time I saw it. That was the last thing I expected to happen in that scene.
I agree, but now I want a best episode and worst episode. 😜
They should do a top 10 too
Yes! Stephen King episode, please!!
James should do a Kill count on Scary Movie
@@Vanninwg You could even do more than that just because of how many there are.
Not quite a jumpscare, but the first gun shot in Dunkirk really illustrates how loud, sudden noises really impact us
I've got an example of the mirror scare: there's one in Edgar wrights shaun of the dead. Where shaun closes the cabinet and reveils a zombie in the shower
That jumpscare in the attic in the first grudge movie... oof.
That one really got me.
Daythe13th honestly to this day I’m terrified of “The Grudge”. I could never watch the movies without being horrified for months. Lol
How about the ‘fun scare’ from Scary Movie 4 when Cindy lights up Toshio’s hand
That still scares my great Aunt to this day.
I’m still traumatized by that one lol
I've never seen those films for a reason lol I am a big fan of the ring film. However hell no I will not watch those films!!!
I LOVVEEEE the scene in Halloween 2018 when Laurie is searching the house for Michael. I’ll never forget how I felt in the theater just BEGGING for Michael to pop out so I don’t have be so the suspense to FINALLY over 😂😂😂
It Chapter 1 after Bev hits her dad with the toilet lid, panning back up to Pennywise made me die
can we get a comp where you do the sarcastic “wooaaah” you do for 3ds? i love it lol
Some of my faves:
1. The door slam from “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”
2. Annie’s death in “Halloween”
3. Alan Arkin leaping out of the shadows at Audrey Hepburn in “Wait Until Dark”
4. The wheelchair at the top of the stairs in “The Changeling”
5. The end of “Friday the 13th”
6. The hand clap from “The Conjuring”
7. The feet licking scene in “Gerald’s Game”
8. Liv Tyler seeing bag head for the first time in “Strangers”
9. Clever girl from “Jurassic Park”
10. And I have to mention “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” The scene where the UFO appears behind his truck and then everything goes crazy and then it gets silent right before his flashlight turns back on. That is a master class in film making.
i saw just a screenshot of footlicker and it sent a shiver up my spine
One of the "scariest" jump scares ever to me was the one in The Haunting of Hill House when Theo and Shirley are in the car on the way to the house. That got me so bad when I first saw it.
I said this at the beginning and now I'm to that point in the podcast, incredible 😂😂😂😂 that scene is terrifying and I didn't know it was such a widely known jump scare
Me too, most scares will set up with music, flickering lights or some other stuff. But this one caught me completely off guard lol
seminole4life22 my hands down favorite jump scare. Caught me off guard and it was so well done!
I was so caught up in the argument, that caught me out of frickin nowhere and I screamed and my cousin screamed and we grabbed each other's arms.
Sinister was the movie that got me into horror.
Also, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in the cave with drunk Dumbledore
I honestly got scared by the lawnmower jump scare again even with no sound.
Me too-
I really wish they hadn’t put the sound effect in that scene… would’ve been so much scarier!
Was I the only one anticipating a random jump scare?
I lowered my volume and made my RUclips window smaller.
Do any appear?
No except some clips of the jump scares but they’re not... jumpy
What, don’t you trust Chelsea?
Because she told you it wouldn't happen
My favorite jumpscare is in The Ring when the girl on the TV says "Daddy loves the horses" and then it cuts to behind where the guy is just standing there, it's completely silent, so it doesn't make you jump, it just makes you piss. One classic I'm surprised you didn't mention is the most infamous moment in Deep Blue Sea.
I think Jumpscares are more prominent in Horror Video Games. Also could you do a podcast about Horror Video games?
Go somewhere else for those
Jettski 33 is it cause you wouldn’t like that?
@@jettski3391 I'm not saying they have devote there hole channel to them, just an episode on how video games are so important to the horror genre.
@@jettski3391 Don't be a dickhead
Anything. Lucy do you mean Jump Scare: The Game? I’d hope they talk about games like Amnesia, Alien Isolation, or the Silent Hill series
Large Marge from Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure was the scariest one by far
Why is this the greatest comment I've ever seen? Comedy gold hahahaha.
Gooby8000 That scares me so much
I've never seen it because it wasn't an appealing to me but this sounds really scary. Idk who Large Marge is but... yeah I can only imagine, she sounds scary.
Hey Chelsea! Love your editing! Thanks for being open about anxiety, it’s great to see more people being less/none judgemental about it
One of my favorite old school jump scares is the old lady popping up in the original House on Haunted Hill ('59).
Oh yeah I remember that, the film was pretty shoddy but that jumpscare got me good
The Mulholland Drive diner scene is still my favorite jumpscare of all time.
‘To Winkie’s?’
_’This_ Winkie’s.’
@Barry Lee Nope. I was surprised.
Man the chemistry between you two is great, big surprise, I know, but it works so well and this is probably my favourite podcast
I mean they are dating
@@batjackattack5556 hence the "big surprise, I know"
Im with you man, the blood test from "The Thing" is one of the scariest if not the scariest. It's amazing. So is that movie.
The jump scare that most got to me was that scene in "Twilight Zone The Movie" when Dan Aykroyd ask his fellow ambulance driver if he wants to see something really scary. I was only three when I first saw it and it's one of my first memories.
The deer crashing into the car at the beginning of Get Out still gets me
My first big jumpscare was the puking ghost girl under the sheet in the 6th Sense
Ditto!
Same movie, but the gunshot kid walking past behind Cole in the hallway gets me every time (mostly the noise). Then when kid turns around after saying he'll show Cole where his dad keeps the gun and the back of his head is gone.
Mischa Barton‘s best role
Sixth sense had some of the best scenes of sheer terror of any movie. The screaming woman in the kitchen is terrifying. Kind of ties into another jump scare that happens earlier in the film where the mom walks in the kitchen and every drawer and cabinet is open.
Omg yes! The whole movie honestly is full of jump scares. Like the build up and the part with the woman inside the car... thats a genuinely scary psychological thriller and horror film too.
I loved the scene in Sinister when Bagul looked at Ellison through the computer
Glad Sinister is getting some respect. That movie messed me up
Yes that movie is horrifying
I just watched sinister 1 and conjuring 1 and 2 and am FREAKED tf out rn, paranoia sucks
Helen appearing behind Trevor at the end of Candyman will always be one of my favorite jump scares.

My favorite jumpscare was in It chapter 1, when Beverly kocks her dad out, and pennywise appears behind her.
Unfortunately, the trailer had spoilt it for me, so I knew it was coming. For Chapter 2, I deliberately avoided teasers and trailers and enjoyed the film a lot more thanks to that choice.
Whereas my favorite jumpscare is the projector scene from that film.
Loud noises always make me jump, but most of the time the scares that really *scare* me are when it pans or cuts to someone or something out of place in the dark or background with no obvious focus or sound cue that scares you only after you realize it's been there, silently the whole time (haunting of hill house is also filled with these)
The defibrillator scene from the thing was the jump scare that got me the most the first time I saw it
The projecter scene from IT scared the manhood out of me
J- Dog manhood?
That wasn’t even scary it looked like shit
Mike Hockhurtz some people scared of that not everyone
Louisplayz W nice English man
Mike Hockhurtz boi I’m not American i haven’t study English in like 4 year
One of the scariest jump scares of my childhood was the witch in Sleepy Hollow. She chains herself up and you're like what's about to happen then she's got this crazy face coming at you
Clean-shaven James looks so young
Yes he does! And he has nothing better to do but glow.
he looks real young but i hate it
One of my favs is from "I know what you did last summer" Anne Heche's characters out of no where bangs on Jennifer love hewitt's car window because she forgot her cigs. Its broad daylight but the two characters in the car are having this "we used to be besties" heart to heart, barely talking above a whisper and it gets me every time!
I love how full your background is now
i swear to god the most scared I've ever been from a jump scare is the really inocunous looking hitchhiker in that twilight zone episode just walks into the foreground of the screen, my GOD
The hand clap is the scariest moment in any movie I’ve seen. Made me shout so loud I scared my friends lol
The conjuring is the movie that you mean
Lol same. It made my brother cry
Still scares me y’all. I don’t think anything has fucked me up as much as that scene dod
I always bring up the jump scare when Lorraine is in the basement and sees Bathsheba behind the music box. That dwarfs the clapping in my opinion.
To me one of the most underrated jump scares is from The Descent and it gets me every time. You know which one it is if you’ve seen it. It’s not the ending. It’s one that happens in the cave with one of the creatures.
Chelsea: There might be some jumpscares in the video
Me: Begin UltraMaxParanoias Transformation
honestly hearing chelsea say she goes through horror mazes with her ears plugged makes me feel a lot better about the fact that I do too.... the ambient noise even can be excruciatingly loud. it's just so overwhelming
Jumpscares are cheap but effective. A respectable tactic.
Not if you use multiple cheap ones in a movie
When done with effort they’re amazing. Just like they said in the podcast
You can’t say something is both cheap and respectable In the same sentence.
Mark Chase
Hold my beer
(Ahem)
“A jump scare can be both cheap and respectable”
Mark Chase that first comment wasn’t even one sentence lol
I can’t believe no one mentioned the classic “focus on something in the foreground while something walks/runs past in the background” (I.E. the alien at the birthday party in Signs)
I sometimes look off to the side of the screen and watch with my peripheral vision.
A bunch of my favorite jump scares are from Hereditary (2018), like Charlie's decapitation and the continued creepy clucking sounds afterwards.
The Sinister jump scare was my favorite scare. Thinking about it now, I still get a shiver down my spine. Great video, guys!!
the 2 jumpscares that truly cost me some years of my life are: "Inland Empire“ the close up of the face, and " Don't look now" the scene with the dwarf.
Loved Inland Empire until Lynch gave it away. He states to rewatch the1st 5 minutes and you get the story being told.
That happens to me sometimes too. Then again, last week my mother sneezed unexpectedly and my heartbeat was elevated for like 5 minutes so...
Same! People think I’m just really chill, but I’m actually ready for anything. Come at me, ghosts! (9.V.)9
So excited for James to cover The Descent as well! Definitely one of my favorite horror movies.
Watching Citizen Kane in my film studies class soon. Excited even more now
Annabelle: Creation is easily my favorite new supernatural horror movie because even though it was a lot of jumpscares, all of them were really well executed and actually frightened me every single time. Also the suspense was really excellent the whole movie, so I think that’s a huge reason why they worked so well.
Annabelle: Comes Home has a few more that Creation
