    I like that adding gain for distortion doesn't raise the volume. I finally resorted to using multiple distortion pedals set to various amounts of distortion at the same volume to eliminate the problem of volume change at different distortion amounts on one pedal being changed on the fly for different songs.

      I’ve recorded bass with it and it’s my favorite bass tone I’ve been able to get direct. For whatever reason the Punch with the 4x12 sounded awesome to my ears. That’s really the thing that separates this from the other modelers. It’s insanely easy to dial in the exact tone you want. I was adding guitar parts to something I had recorded before and within 5 minutes matched the tone of my tube amp that I mic’d and recorded a lead part. I couldn’t tell the difference. It’s really great.

  • @CarlGtSmith

    There are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!

    So to use a delay or reverb pedal, you plug your guitar to the Iridium input jack and the Iridium output into the input of your pedals and plug the output from your pedals into a direct box and send it to FOH or whatever other audio source you’re using, is this correct?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  7 месяцев назад

      Hi, sonny6string822. Yes, that would be a great way to do that setup. If you’re just running clean amp emulations on the Iridium, the delay/reverb pedals could also go in front of the Iridium. Really just personal preference at that point.

    Strymon- please make a deluxe version with 2 sets of amp switches and the ability to send each amp to its respected output separately through XLR outputs. Many players (myself included) use wet/dry rigs and this would allow you to send an Amp sim (say Fender) out on one channel, and another type (Vox or Marshall) out on the other.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your question, Jason. Here's my take: It depends… If you want to set up the chain like an amp without an effects loop, then yes, Iridium is last. If you want to set up the chain as if you are in a studio, then place your time domain effects after the Iridium. Technically you can place anything after it, since in order to connect to a mic pre on your interface or mixer, you'll likely use a direct box. If you connect to a Hi-Z input on the interface/mixer, then your results may vary. You can't hurt anything by trying both methods, so experiment. If I didn't answer you completely or correctly, please contact me direct.

      IR stands for impulse response. It's kind of like a snapshot of a cabinet's acoustical properties.
      I don't know if they still do, but Redwirez used to offer a free pack of Marshall 1960A impulse responses recorded with 18 different mics in up to 40 different mic positions. The rest of their cabs you had to pay for.
      There's other sites that offer IRs as well. Some free. Some paid for. It's surprising how much your tone can change by doing nothing more than using a different IR.

    Will this go direct to the effects loop if I still need to use an amp?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад

      Hi, Josh. You could run this into an effects loop, but just remember that you would be running a cab IR into another cabinet. That may not give you the best sound possible, but it is an option. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Thanks for the interest!

    • @JimmyCafarella
      @JimmyCafarella 5 лет назад +1

      You don't need an FX loop on a preamp. An FX loop offers insertion for post effects, with this you simply run them after the output.

    • @neenerheaddj
      @neenerheaddj 5 лет назад

      Try running a lush reverb into a dirty amp. Unless you want shoegaze tones, you want verb and delay post distortion.
      Also, this is not a preamp. But if you don’t understand these things, there’s nothing more I can say that will change that.
      Lush or at least clear and articulate verbs and delays that will also be able to be heard through Iridium’s headphone out is what I’m getting at.

    • @JimmyCafarella
      @JimmyCafarella 5 лет назад +1

      @@neenerheaddj I didn't say you should run reverb before a dirty amp, LOL. You would run reverb AFTER this unit, not BEFORE. And yeah, amp modeling units ARE preamps, fed into either a power amp or directly to P.A. (with cab sim enabled). Yes they emulate power amp as well, but the point is they are a preamp as far as the way you'd build a chain. Guitar into the Iridium, then into delay and reverb, then into power amp or D.I.

    • @kristofkubina4105

      what is your reason for wanting to route the time based effects through the IR filter? you could just run the iridium into delays+reverbs, like it's done with a miced up amp sound in any DAW in the mixing phase... i am just curious.

    The iridium sounds really good, very warm and organic, with no digital nuances. But at £399 UK it just seems a heck of a lot of money for something that emulates just 3 amps, 9 cabs, 3 room reverbs and one patch save. I appreciate it's going for top quality tone, response & playing dynamics, but even so. With the new Pod Go providing full mfx capability with Helix quality modelling & IR importing, for the same price of £399 will the Iridium really be noticeably better? I think this is a pedal for tube purists/pro players that are very, very, VERY particular about their tone and need something to 'replace' their amps/cabs with something very light, compact and flexible to fit on their conventional pedal boards with good routing options and very natural sounding room reverb. This is a very different market to those wanting fuller MFX options, so it's not in competition with Helix, Pod Go, etc. At this price point, it's most definitely not for me personally, and as an amateur gigging player my next purchase will almost certainly be Pod Go for my gigging needs (once it finally gets to the UK!). But I can definitely see where Strymon are coming from and the Iridium is already highly respected for what it does.

      It's basically a preamp. You'd have to use a powered speaker or a power amp with it. Or, if you're gigging with it, you'd run it into the house system.

    • @blackprophesy
      @blackprophesy 5 лет назад

      I think for the demo he's going from the Strymon > audio interface > DAW.
      Or it can go direct into a front of house/PA system. Or into powered full range monitors. Or (I think from the manual) you can plug it into an effects loop return of a guitar amp.

    • @robertwellington2616
      @robertwellington2616 5 лет назад

      blackprophesy thru the return input Strymon said it won’t sound as good. So I wanted this, but I’m not going to spend this amount for a meh sound. I’m not connected to a computer and all that goes with it. But full range powered monitors would work? There goes more money and I have non powered, passive, unused monitors. I’m going to be forced to pass.
