Between this and that Slumberland movie that's in the works at Netflix, I do hope Little Nemo catches on in our generation's zeitgeist....

Yea I hope not. This generation sucks with Reboots.
The NES game was so obscure that I legitimately felt like I might have imagined it, which is pretty appropriate considering the theme. I was already sold on the remake/reimagining/new project, but Anamanaguchi extra sold me on it.

Yeah it was so obscure it was featured prominently in Nintendo Power.
Where is the transforming into animal part though????? Hopefully saving for a later date. If not, please add this into the game immediately lol

Despite the fact that it's based on a very old comic, and trying to be removed from TMS's film and the games Capcom based on said film, good luck to you. Looks like a decent Mario 2-like game in a Metroidvania format.
Again, this looks pretty good. Don't screw it up, and don't step on too many toes, and you should be good.

i like that little nemo is now in public domain so people can make games of it, i remember playing that one made by capcom for nes, i can easily say that is one of the best platforms ever, but it was too plain when it comes to story, most game didn't have much space for that anyway.

Thank you! Yes, this will feel like a retro platformer in the moment-to-moment gameplay, but in a large, seamless world with metroidvania style exploration and ability upgrades. :D

yeah :( i feel the same... the original comics are visually stunning. this is great, but apart from the title it has little to nothing to do with the original content
I'm sure there are reasons why, and one of them is stereotypes.
There were some controversial aspects in a few characters in the original.

In this game candy is your currency, and there will be animals for you to give it to, but that's not a core mechanic in this one. This centers around collecting toys that will give you new platforming abilities.

This is its own stand-alone reboot of Little Nemo.

Okay, it's looking like this is a new protagonist, maybe 'little nemo' is going to be treated more like a title than a name. I can get behind that. Gameplay looks interesting. Seems to be a bit of call-back to the NES game. Overall looks like it might be decent.
That said, I want to address a small elephant in the room: is Flip a trans individual in this version? Cool choice if true, but a little surprising. The original design has it's merits, but I'm liking this design a lot.
Thank you! Just to clarify about Flip: this Flip exists in a version of the "Little Nemo" world/lore where the classic McCay Flip doesn't exist. That is to say, this Flip isn't necessarily transgender, but rather she's a gender-swapped version of the classic Flip design. I'm glad you're digging the new design :)
@@diesoftgames Thanks for clearing that up. I thought she might be trans because I thought I detected some slightly masculine features in the close-up, but I could just as easily have been mistaken. Again, I really like the design.
@@legionaireb Well I'm all for head-canon and don't want to be too prescriptive about these things, that's more kind of how I was thinking about things and just wanted to be clear this Flip has no direct, lore-based relation to the original Flip of the comics. We're aiming to launch Q4 of 2023, so it will be a bit yet. If that's too long, you can pledge at the Sleepwalker tier or higher to get alpha and beta access to the game when that is ready, but that will also be a little ways out yet.

We're unaffiliated with Capcom, but yeah, it's based on the same Little Nemo (originally from Winsor McCay's early 20th century comics that are in the public domain).

This game is unaffiliated with Capcom's Little Nemo game for the NES. That said, you can expect to see some animal friends in here, but you won't be transforming into them in this game.
