Seth is getting every Taskmaster contestant on American TV little by little.
@@andrew66862 there's only one Taskmaster, mate.
@@andrew66862 fair enough 👍🏻
I hope he eventually gets .... "Little Alex Hoooooooooooooorne"
@@newageoutlaw well of course he needs LORD Greg Davies!!
Would love Seth on Taskmaster
It's so weird seeing him on American TV
Ha yes surprised me too, but in a happy way 😀
He is African
Yeah, no matter the TV, he's still not funny.
@@Le_volver cringe
First time watching him, and i kinda love his voice/accent
Stand up on Late Night TV is an important part of our culture. Please do more.
Mr. Wang is great too
Starting with Rusty.
Please more Phil johnson..I never recovered from laughter after Phil Johnson show
"Ibuprofen comes like grain"
Thats a solid joke, and totally lost on that crowd.
He should have used an American brand for that joke.
Do they even call it Ibuprofen in the US?
I only ask because names of drugs seem to be different everywhere.
@@kildogery Yes, Ibuprofen is the generic name of that drug. In the US, the most recognizable brands of Ibuprofen are Advil, Motrin, and Midol.
@@Decktrio yeah, Advil made it over here, eventually.
Nurofen is the biggest brand in the UK.
If he'd said Advil, the joke would maybe have worked better.
IMO the joke didn't land because no US citizen would choose ibuprofen to off themselves
@@greezooo right! That's what I was thinking the whole time. Guns are cheap, and cops are free. Why would anyone choose painful death by ibuprofen? Americans don't even consider that as a form of suicide, that's why we don't regulate it that way
he had a tough room and too short a set time - phil wang is normally HILARIOUS...hope to see him break america more. he reminds me of a steven wright kinda vibe but with his own twist. 🔥
He is normally very good - this routine was... not. 😎
@@TitoTimTravels what about your routine?
Philly philly Wang Wang!! So glad to see new material from him!! 😍😍😍
It is always a bit weird to me when I see comics from the UK on American TV shows. They never quite seem to get the response that I think they deserve. They also often change their material a bit to match the audience and it usually doesn’t match their best material that I see on British shows.
Yeah, the differences in humour is really interesting. When he comes out and says "It's me! Phil Wang! Wow!" I think Brits understand that as a self deprecating joke about his relative lack of fame. But the US audience sort of go "woo!" as if they're taking his self promotion at face value.
If he had said "get er done" after everything he would have got a standing ovation. 😒
There's a huge difference in humor. I was watching a guy doing comedy on UK's got talent, I didn't laugh one bit and yet they were all losing it and he got the golden buzzer. So, it makes sense to me that they need to change their material...
@@kwstaskwtidis1789 I’ll have to look up this guy on British tv, then. I prefer British comedy and he wasn’t doing that well here.
Yeah it’s strange. maybe it’s just because we are used to their regular ways. But then I don’t notice American comics changing their set when in the U.K. wonder what Henning Wehn does when’s in Germany?
the taskmaster late night takeover continues
So great to see my Taskmaster favorites coming to late night!
I'm still waiting to unsee his uniform.
@@cuttwice3905 It won’t happen. It’ll never happen….!
@@cuttwice3905 Don't think about the view through the fishbowl magnifying glass.
Or the slow-mo hoola hooping
Philly Philly Wang Wang. He's too clever for a 5-min late night segment.
👆 THIS ...he needs time for at least 3 ramble rants, minimum.
Philly Philly Wang wang is exactly what i said when I read the title of the video 😂
Went a little too long with the nipple bit but yeah, he definitely deserved more laughs
"still porn - it's still porn" is frankly an amazing catchphrase
Fr he’s good with those
No late night set will convey the hilarity of him choosing to wear a yellow coverall without underwear for weeks while filming Taskmaster tasks.
Whilst hula hooping in slow motion! 😂
I really enjoyed that entire set, Phil Wang!! 🤣😂🤣👍🏽🙌🏽🥰
Dude I was dying of laughter when this guy was on,this guy is really good with the quick comments and the expressions and mannerisms I would like to see more oh him👍🏻
I like this guy - hope to see more of him in the US!
Love Phil Wang! Hope to see him on more American shows
He deserved a better audience.
i really like him but that was a bad bit
He seems to be workshopping some new material? I hadn't heard these before. Still, not the best audience.
@@TheMuffinMan01 yeah.. well 5 minutes is hard to get good Phil Wang in.. and also it seemed like maybe he was doing stuff he thought would appeal more to US... not sure if I can think of some typical stuff of his that would work in 5 mins but there is definitely stuff americans could find funny... but he is a little weirdish.
@@TheMuffinMan01 I loved it. To each their own, I guess
Nah deserve better jokes that was annoying
Loved him on Taskmaster
No matter how ornate the grandfather clock is, the pendulum draws the eye.
The last bit is something I‘ve always wondered about. On some social media they make people with breasts blur their nipples but people without don‘t have to. Same thing goes for illustrations of naked people. How? And why? Excellent point Phil!
Reminds me of a bit with a comedian where an audience member said that she should be free to walk around with no bra on, but the men kept staring at her and the comedian replies "freedom works both ways, you want to be flopping about and it's our job to spot the floppage!".
@@vinny142 Really anybody whose eyes detect movement will look, whether they have their own set of boobblobs or not lol
@@everythingiseverything9920 Y'know, I don't think they are called that.
On Instagram you can show breasts, but not _female_ nipples. If nipples are visible, they consider it "nudity", which is allowed for art like paintings but not in photographs. The rule is unwritten since they just mention nudity, but it's so well-known that there's even a dedicated account that post *only* nipples, zoomed in super close so that nothing else is visible (genderless_nipples). Some of them are male, some female, but you'd never be able to tell and since there's nothing to around them Instagram doesn't block them.
@@desmond-hawkins I don't know if this was a stand-up's bit (but I think it was) where you could photograph and print out pictures of nipples (possibly male, possibly not) and stick them on your breasts so you'd technically not be showing a naked breast, it would just look like it. 😏
Love you on Channel 4 Phil! I'm American too btw, I just watch it here on RUclips, UK humour is lovely!
I appreciate the fact you used the British spelling of ‘humour’ to complement your pro-UK comment 😃
Philly Philly Wang Wang!!
I'm fukcing loving that Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert are having my favorite British comics do stand-up. Phil Wang is great, and I want to see James Acaster.
Saw him live at the Union Hall, laughed so hard!
PHIL WANG! He’s great!
I have never seen this guy before in my life, so I don’t have a dog in this race. He was funny and I really enjoyed it. What was going on with the crowd?
he was famously a contestant in TASKMASTER, the UK comedy show. here's a compilation of him ruclips.net/video/UlxB04VQ5E0/видео.html&ab_channel=Taskmaster
(unless it's geo-blocked, use a VPN as it's visible in most EU countries)
Someone on another comment said they were there that night and they just think the mic levels are not up enough for the crowd, because on the night there was plenty of laughter. Check out Phil's excellent Netflix special- and as this other commenter suggests- definitely Taskmaster!
He's the best! Thanks for having Philly Philly Wang Wang on the show Seth
Phil Wang is awesome. Good choice, Seth and Light Night
Phil Wang on American TV!??!? Nice!
Yayyyy I loved his Netflix standup!
Mr Wang, 王先生,So proud you came to the States to raise the bar of stand-up comedies to a refreshing level; no profanities, so chill and intellectual with next door boy’s amicable mannerism, yet the words-use is so insightful and cleaver with double meaning. Congrats on your right profession choice, credits goes to your mother’s total support, she knew you and your talent, you have became
(Continued from below) salute to your parents who both are Cambridge graduates in engineering as well. Smart move Philly Philly Wang Wang to have received your own Cambridge degree to keep your not much a talker father without any c/o full time comedian son. I am a mother of 3 Eurasian Children, I have watched you on YOU TUBE for a long time, so so proud of you. So sorry have missed on NBC. I happed to be in Athens these days, perhaps catch you on west coast. l 高宗玉
Joy and pride and ours too.
the best haggler among the comedians today. he can buy a mysterious box for only 300 baht.
and the seller asked for 300 baht as well, A+ haggling skills!
Philly Philly Wang Wang!
Clever name
As a gay guy, I can still definitely confirm that still porn is WAY under-rated! It's the quality (and the fantasy)! Your humor is also very much under appreciated (so I assume)
LOL I love your comedy Phil Wang! Great set xD Audience seemed iffy tho ;P
This is so fucking hilarious, I love it!!
Bloody lovely stuff from Wang there.
Loved the us uk pun!
Wow, this crowd is aggravating.
Im digging him...... hope to see more Phil Wang!!!!!
Aye so good to see him on Seth's show, hope he gets more exposure
Phil Wang is my favorite!!!!
Phil, I bought tickets to see you at The Dynasty Typewriter in LA! Can't wait to meet you!
Me too!! So excited!
Just saw him at ACME Comedy Club in Minneapolis. He opened with this same routine, and it wasn't the best part of his set -- the set got better as it went on. This clip, unfortunately, doesn't do him justice.
I love Phil!
I think that he dumbed down ...and paid the price. He is muchbetter than this usually.
Jimmy Carr runs into the same problem.
I love hearing him as a guest in Horrible Histories at the BBC.
This guy is hilarious 😂
Love Phil 💕
So funny! I laughed out load like 5 times! 💚
Impeccable logic.
Brilliant set. “U K?” Lol
Phil’s change of approach to suit Americans doesn’t quite work. Keep to the intelligent sarcasm. If they don’t get it, that’s their loss
Try NOT to communicate effectively with people in another country since that's the way to make them appreciate you and want to support your comedy. Sure, that will work. 🙄
@@dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 Don’t believe it would have worked any other way for Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
FYI - Monty Python’s Flying Circus debuted five decades ago, & their humor still holds up today.
Bit rich Philly Philly Wang Wang coming on and dropping a critique of erotic exposure after spending his season of Taskmaster exhibiting his "exclusive" masculine profile through an overly-fitted yellow Bruce Lee jump suit.
He still maintains that he did not realise, until he saw the task video footage, what the full effect of that outfit would be.
Color me skeptical, lol.
Close Captions starts with 'British accent'
Im not sure why so many comments saying the crowd wasn’t good but they literally laughed at every joke. How could the crowd have been any better?
I think the audience isn't mic'ed enough so the tone feels off
It sounded more like polite laughter. Maybe it's the mike
@@JithinJacob333 I was in the audience this day (great experience btw) and yeah after watching it back on TV that night and on RUclips the audience mic level is definitely less than what was happening. there was a lot of laughs and we were loud throughout the show. Maybe becuase they have everyone in the audience wear masks and the mics are close to the ceiling? Either way the audience liked this guy (and Oscar Issac)
Philly Philly Wang Wang!!!
Nice to see comments blaming the audience. Phil Wang is great.
I think it was both. The set wasn't very good.
Very good!
The nipple joke reminded me of the one I heard about the lady who showed up wearing nothing but "two band-aids and a cork".
The nipple joke deserved more laughs. It was hilarious 😂
hell yeah phil wang!
thank you, Phil Wang. You made me happy :)
"Phil Wang
Philly Philly Wang
Phil Wang
Phiilip Wang" 🎶
Phil is on late night.... Word!
GOLD
Stewart Lee, Phil Wang, James Acaster, Sara Pascoe, Dylan Moran, Ivo Graham, Aisling Bea, Josie Long, Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Bridget Christie, Simon Munnery, and Bill Bailey should be brought over for five years in some kind of trade deal. For more avocados maybe
Good list.
Wang and Graham seen a bit out of place to me, but I've never seen their stand-up, properly.
If you reckon they fit, I'll have to check out more.
Thanks.
I’d want David Mitchell, too, just for the culture shock. We might have to ease the poor man in a bit.
@@whatevs00 It would be fun to watch him lose his mind gradually at American culture.
LOL @ [British accent] in the closed captions
Philly! His netflix special is good!
Lol seems like all new material. Phil is out here doing an open mic on tv, dying on the nippple hill
Mock the Week, Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You, Pointless, Richard Osman's House of Games, Phil is great in all these shows He's not Brand New to Comedy, just America. Good Luck Buddy.
don't forget his stint on taskmaster, legendary
Phil *"A LIIIIIIIIME"* Wang.
that did not seem to go well... but I like it.
Didn’t laugh, but enjoyed the commentary.
That US/ UK line is pretty clever.
He’s pretty dope, clever jokes
Lol “is that what freedom is”
Phil Wang!
Good to see Phils fame extended out of the UK 😍
This crowd did not deserve the delight that is Phil Wang.
Great job 👏
I love all the Brits coming on this show. Big fan of British comedy. We need Alex Horne on next to talk about Taskmaster.
A whole show with the Horne Section as the house band, needs to happen.
Bro is a genius fr, fr
That bulk ibuprofen is my whole healthcare plan
Taskmaster is such a great show.
im kinda sad that the audience dont get this dry humor that well. it got me cracking. so akwardly dry and fun.
I remember watching his standup 2 years ago. There was a joke about his heritage, about being white & Chinese. I like his standup videos.
That crowd was a dud from the moment he said "just a little joke there to get us started," which was, in itself, a joke. That nobody noticed.
Seth on Taskmaster when
Also it feels weird to see Phil not in the yellow Bruce Lee unitard.
Living in the US you need a bottle of 1000 ibuprofen.
It definitely felt awkward, but I got a kick out of his "Uesss" and "Ukay?" joke
Running out of panel shows, I guess... God to see him breaking in over here!
During the end bit I honestly kept thinking about that line from the House Bunny when she said, "The eyes are the nipples of the face"
It’s not that it was a bad set, but the nipple rift was too redundant.
It was a bit weird he told the same joke three slightly different ways. Jimmy Carr could've told at least 3 jokes in the same space. Well, if they'd let him tell all 3 jokes on American TV.
He’s a funny dude for sure but man that set was pretty tough to get through, a mismatch for the LN crowd.
yeah -- tough room. Plus having something funny to say would help
A liiiiimmmmeeeeee
i think the main thing he's missing here is that the US is uhhhhh not an optimistic place anymore. we are all fucking miserable
Ow, he knows.
Don’t worry: we all know!
When I lived in the U.S., my room mates would always use up my ibuprofen. Unfortunately, addiction to pain killers is a real thing there.
I wonder where in the UK he was talking about re ibuprofen: As far as I could find, ibuprofen is not regulated in that way over there.
It's not a hard legal requirement afaik but pretty much every shop and supermarket adheres to the limit.
Living in Asia I miss 1000 ibuprofen bottles and buying it without being warned how it’s going to hurt me.
Yay! USA adventures
the ooh la la’s took me out
Wallgreen's is owned by Boots, the big UK drugstore chain (since maybe ten years ago).
I believe it was a smaller audience than normal because of COVID.
