It's not just for the 80s babies or Stranger Things fans. I first heard this song it was the Meg Myers version, and so far its still my favorite version, despite it being a cover.

I just wanna say, im 34 and born in 1988. No, this song was not a hit in the mid 90s when i was a kid. Try people in their 40s rather, who would have been kids in the 80s...but evne then, im curious to know if this song even appealed to kids back then. Even in the 90s there was a clear line between children and adult music. It really isnt like today. So i acutally think its more 50 year olds who will have gone out dancing to this song as teenagers ect.
The line between "child" and "adult" music is only as clear as the environment around you makes it, growing up there was just music, my mom openly enjoyed things marketed for kids and adults alike, my father encourages me even today to explore music without bias (recently got him hooked on modern rockabilly as a matter of fact) I'm only 34 and I've hears dozens of versions of this song, my favorite so far being within temptations cover from the early 2000s

Thats fantastic that you have heard that song before in many different ways. I had never heard it before stranger things. That doesnt mean that I am somehow closed of from music and unwilling to explore. There is also the matter of distribution rights which were also very different from country to country. Its quite possible that i never heard this because it wasnt released in my country back then. I dont know. Ever heard the story of how Roxette became famous in America? They didnt have a distributor, but an exchange student bought their single and asked his local radio station in america to play it.
I was a Gen x teenager. I listened to mostly alternative. Back then it wasn’t called “alternative”. Shit! Maybe it’s not even called that now. But new wave , punk , ska, reggae and anything else that wasn’t top 40 was all played on the alternative radio station. Kate bush, at least here in the Bay Area wasn’t played on top 40 pop stations. Which is what I believe she was categorized under that genre in the United Kingdom. Her music was played by the only alternative radio station we had unless you count the college stations which played different genres at different hours. Anyway, I’m 53 and I don’t believe that this line you speak of exists today as far as pre teen and up but it does for most children. When I think of children’s type music I think of Disney channel artists. So I’m not sure when you say children what ages you’re referring to. The word “kid” is a better fit if you’re using it in reference to young people, but “children” brings happy meals and crayons to mind. You are correct in saying that there was a line when I was a teen. The gen x•ers are the generation to change that. My parents generation didn’t adapt to changes. I haven’t ever heard any of my peers saying, “those damn young people and their loud music….”. Lmao!! My truth is that as music has evolved so have I. I am and have ALWAYS been and will FOREVER be a lover of music. My tastes and interests have grown since my mind and heart have always been open. This is similar in my peers as well. At least the people that I know. Borders, lines or any divide is only going to negatively impact any type of growth or experience. So definitely keep that line of separation away from music. Because every savage beast deserves some soothing.
Oh and nope we didn’t dance to this song. Not sure if you’ve ever listened to the original version by Kate Bush but it’s not very “dancy”. By the way, side note…..the original, although I do love every cover I’ve heard of it and there are several, still the original is the best. By far.
Sounds great, but ew… the prancing doesn’t seem “appropriate.” I guess not fitting. Bush’s live choreography was simple but powerful, especially the unified steps forward during the chorus. To much wacky inflatable waving arm man in this…
Man, I hate so much artists who try to make profit of a popular song by making a cover or remixing it. Create such good song by yourself and don’t copy someone else’s work.

Paying homage is not stealing, in that case we speak of plagiarism and if a person does not have enough musical culture to understand that the song is a cover it is not the artist's fault. @@pescolla wow, triggered much? I just think it should be normal to name the original artist instead of doing covers without mentioning it. It happens often that even moderators in radio shows just say "..and here´s blabla with his/her new track" although it´s a cover. Of course it´s not the artists fault when the audience doesn´t know the original. But i think it should be mentioned somewhere ^^ Honour to whom honour is due. I´m a composer myself and wouldn´t want others to copy/remix/cover my work without mentioning it somewhere. Would be nice if you could calm down a little bit lol
@@andreasgajewski Because according to this reasoning we should also mention the original authors of the songs that were sampled in rap etc. So let's also say that House Of The Rising Sun is not from The Animals, that Hey Joe is not from Jimi Hendrix, that Dazed And Confused is not from Led Zeppelin... I agree that it is right to remember the original authors, but who makes history makes these songs famous. If the song has already been famous and is one of the pillars of an era, there is no need for all of this.
