John always had a great vocal delivery in his songs, but his vocal performance on this song is off the charts, incredible! On and on, and on and on.....
Yes and apparently he didn't like the sound of his voice. Having a distinctive voice is certainly a blessing and makes you stand out. Immediately, you know Lennon and Elvis, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Paul, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison etc. Most guys even if they have a good powerful voice no matter how well you belt it out-sincerity and all. You still sound like a thousand plus other guys.
I, like millions of others, miss John Lennon. I can only imagine what creativity he would have tapped into from his being, had he had the continued chance. Yeah, we all shine on, John... But, still, I wish you were here.

That is why every American must support and demand the enforcement of the death penalty. Otherwise, his life and anybody else's in the street, an unarmed man with his wife, is worthless. The walking evil POS laugh at you. Weak New Yorkers allowed this to happen. When you are weak, you just get more evil, more of the same.
John had the habit of recording very fast, he was very impatient in the studio. In fact, Spector told him not to drop the song so fast but John did it anyway.

Can you imagine what a 12 year old (me) thought of music of this high mark in early 1970 ? They were like gods to me and my friends: we couldn't figure out how this incredible music was created ! 👍
What is amazing about this song, is that John Lennon walked into the studio with nothing but what was in his head. He wrote it, recorded it and it was produced and ready to release in one day all in the studio.
My first glimpse of John Lennon's brilliance was when i heard ''Imagine'' on my way to a class at my university in the Philippines. The song was playing on a jukebox. I had to stopped and listened to the beautiful song. I fell in love not only to the song but the great musician Joh Lennon . That was 1971.I was 17 then. I still love him and his music now that i am 70 years old.

Glad you mentioned his humor. Many freely note his intensity, songwriting and singing skill, but let's not forget how tremendously funny and witty he was. A great Scouser, if ever!😎
John was super talented. He had one of the best rock voices ever. The beginning of "Mr. Moonlight" is classic. And, if you just wrote down the lines of "Nowhere Man" ,or "Imagine" ,it is poetry
Yes! Some of the best rock singers have been poets first, of course there's Jim Morrison, Patti Smith, Lana Del Rey. What's amazing is when the music is like another lyric element they are working. Have you read Alan Pollack's Beatles analyses? They are brilliant!
it is art, so it is up to anyone who listens to the song to project themselfs and give it meaning. having said that, I think that since the song is about karma and given that John had instruction from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the answer to the question may be "to liberate and burn karma". what do you think?
He’s saying god would not want this for us. John and yoko are Christian’s. Not me saying that yoko said that. God is all about peace and happiness. The beautiful energy that is the god love. Not the vengeful god
I remember that morning getting ready for work, radio on and a John Lennon song playing. I had no idea what had happened the night before. Then the DJ said the late John Lennon. I was shocked. That's what I thought too!! I figured it was a little weird of a fill, but Lennon must have said, "No, it's cool, do it." Hehe
@@nexususer4343 you mean he went from swing to straight.... it’s not called 3 time or 4 time 🤦🏻♂️
@@nexususer4343 its not even a drummers thing, its a music on general thing...
@@coolkg12345 Ok, I've removed the errant comments
There goes the greatest musical genius of the 20th century. Ask me again in 100 years if you doubt this...
Stevie Wonder > Lennon. Prince > Lennon. But you're white, so I'd expect you to put one of your own above them.
Patricia Baldwin really pathetic, trying to make it about race, those two weren't in the same league
One of my all-time favorite John Lennon songs.
Happy 77th birthday John Lennon. You will always live on through all the great music you left us with.
This song has probably the same Melody as all you need is love
KirbyBulborb I agree even today
KirbyBulborb 🌎🌎
Lennon's vocals on the chorus are stellar..the combination of raspiness and desperation encompass everything a rock vocal at it's peak should be
John always had a great vocal delivery in his songs, but his vocal performance on this song is off the charts, incredible! On and on, and on and on.....
Jim Coleman Right you are. 😊
What a voice
I think John Lennon is one of the best rock singers until now.
Yeah yeah
I, like millions of others, miss John Lennon. I can only imagine what creativity he would have tapped into from his being, had he had the continued chance. Yeah, we all shine on, John... But, still, I wish you were here.
wish youu were here, shii- wrong song
One thing Yoko said about him is that he’d be totally into the internet and would love the idea of being able to talk to anyone in the world at any time. He certainly would’ve teamed up with Bill Gates and/or Steve Jobs
John is considered one of the greatest songwriters in the world.
Yeah but only because it's true.
QuasarDiamond He is not!
shadrach Yea, he is. Maybe because you don’t like his personality (i read the other comments you left) doesn’t deny that his records have sold millions and that proves he’s one of the better songwriters to ever live the planet. Just stop sharing your useless opinion and go on with your day
First song I recognized as a favorite. During a Nike ad; of all things. I was a kid and that was 1991. Im 43 now and Beatles rank #1 in my book. Use to think it said Mrs Karma. I was 11 and didn’t know how she’s was!!
You know, I genuinely miss this man. The world was a more interesting place with him in it. We all lost something when he was taken from us.
But he shines on.....
That is why every American must support and demand the enforcement of the death penalty. Otherwise, his life and anybody else's in the street, an unarmed man with his wife, is worthless. The walking evil POS laugh at you. Weak New Yorkers allowed this to happen. When you are weak, you just get more evil, more of the same.
he'd be a Trump supporter - no question.
Staff he was a communist
Kevin Kush , Staff, both of y’all are way off lol
David B John Lennon would have never wanted that. U know nothing about him or his music
Fun fact: This was written, recorded, mixed and released in just 10 days.
Trying doing that today....Beatles recorded 4 songs a day in the early days
John had the habit of recording very fast, he was very impatient in the studio. In fact, Spector told him not to drop the song so fast but John did it anyway.
George plays guitar as well, shame he wasn't there for this...
John lennon was classic A.D.D before they knew about it .....Probably helped him be a genius.....slept alot unfocused anxious a bit lazy. Outburst of temper.. self critical ...All added up to genius
We all shine on like the moon and the stars and the sun.
John Lennon the greatest of all time
My Hero
Nah.was good.and I'm a scouser.
John has been gone 45 years. REST IN PEACE
44 years, isn't it?
Forever. Miss you John.
2019 and were still rockin out to u brother may ur voice live forever
JT 1200 Same here. I agree 100%
Indeed..a beautiful enlightened soul he was..one of my favorite people.
He achieved so much in 40 short years, a bright light gone forever but he left behind words and music that will forever endure
And he Shines on like the moon the stars and the Sun
John looks so happy and fulfilled in this video, you can tell he truly believes in what he is singing.
everyone lies to hate yoko but really they got themselves together after a while they really were much happier, I'm sad this side of John couldn't last long
And what he is feeling
My dad was a massive Stones fan. He met John randomly in Athens in 1969. This single was the only beatleesque thing he had
Even in 2023 we still hear johns music it still captures my imagination of what could have been.😢 john might have died that horrible day but one things for certain his music will last forever. Rest easy lad we got it from here.❤🎶
JL? 2009. Still shining on….ruclips.net/video/zaKjDSj5exo/видео.html
Sounds as crisp as the day he laid it down with the help of Phil Spector. A classic that never ages and sounds as good as the first spin...everytime. Shine on.
It's not easy to write something wise about such an intelligent artist and his great songs, just John was the brightest star of the Beatles times!40 years from his death are approaching!
John never died, he teached immortality and yea we have a John and we are Mankind: it's nice ^_^
“Why in the world are we here…surely not to live in pain and fear. Why are you there, when you’re everywhere?”
This song touches me deeply. RIP John Lennon.
1:42 John grovin hard to the drum fill . then gives him a nod. AWESOME : )
purified_futurewater Love it!
purified_futurewater
Great!
purified_futurewater well I guess so, but they’re just miming the song I’m pretty sure. Great song nonetheless.
Great song, but lip-synced.
The music this guy made is otherworldly.
2:27 God, I love the knitting on this song so much! Gives me chills every time I listen to it! I've got goosebumps right now!
Lennon knew this song needed a knitting solo...
@@delilasloan8914 Such an integral part of the song. I honestly couldn't "imagine" this song without it! 😂
Though, I suppose it's easy if I try.
She's crocheting, not knitting.
Delila Sloan that was funny
@@borntogazeintonightskies imagine there's no knitting.
Lennon lives Forever
This song makes life worth living.
What a beautiful thought, Andrew! I agree...
we love you,John ....we're still here sending out your message of peace and love.

This great song will still be shining on in a 1,000 years
This will be Played untill the end of time.
I truly hope so
This song is magical as Hell!!👍👍
Ya it is great but it's all mimed.
Amen brother
Jotn Lennon is a songwriting genius 🎉🎉. His music 🎶 🎵 is genuine 🎉🎉. He is unapologetically real to his craft and his friends and family 🎉🎉. This song ❤️ 🎵 is a Lennon Masterpiece 🎉🎉
😂
My word, John was amazing. What a singer, songwriter and musician.
4 boys that came 4 nowt & took over the music world
Bet wen john started the band he had no idea of the fame coming there way. Amazing ✌✌✌✌
John was a GENIUS!!!. Almost Paul, George and Ringo!!!. I LOVE THEM ALL, but SPECIALY to John, SOOO MUCH AND FOREVER!!!. ❤
Sad to think how many more masterpieces of music John Lennon could have produced.
Thanks for the ones he left behind.
One of my favorite Lennon songs. What a great song, sung and played so well.
Also, well-knitted
Can you imagine what a 12 year old (me) thought of music of this high mark in early 1970 ? They were like gods to me and my friends: we couldn't figure out how this incredible music was created ! 👍
I WAS 12 TOO , IT WAS A MAJESTIC DREAM☆☆☆☆☆
one of Johns best songs..beautiful raw
The guy was decades ahead of his time.
Apart from looking the best he's EVER , he was ahead of his times...

Who knew????
So far ahead no one has caught up yet.

Great song! World miss you John!🙏❤️
Extremely powerful lyrics.. They just spoke to my soul..
All Good yes!!❤❤❤❤❤✌👀
U have a beautiful soul♥️
No evidence of a soul whatsoever primate
What is amazing about this song, is that John Lennon walked into the studio with nothing but what was in his head. He wrote it, recorded it and it was produced and ready to release in one day all in the studio.
Thank you for setting the record straight
He started off messing around with the melody to Three Blind Mice IIRC
@Johnny Rockett Lennon is the real King of R+R. But this is all mimed.
Great track for sure, but let's be honest, not much to it musically. It's all in the performance.
@@sekos99 You don't think the chords sequence is interesting? I do...

Absolutely wonderful song!! 🎼🎶🎤🎸🥰
Listen to those lyrics … ❤️
Loved John’s talented lyric writing & songs generally ..A genius. taken far too soon …🎼🎶🎤🥰❤️💖💕
Love Lennon's intensity and humour! He is soooo great. One of my fave songs ever!
Of all the examples you could give, you choose Mr. Moonlight? Maybe the worst Beatles track of all.
Great, now I gotta go listen to it.
One of the biggest composers at 20 century.
Damn that guy was ridiculously talented. The superstar's superstar.
Talented.superstar.but certainly not the superstars superstar.wack.
Even after 47 years., when he says "why in the world are we here"?? I get chills!!!!
Surely not to live in pain and fear...
Where are you Tessa??
Mitch Harrelson there's probably no reason
it is art, so it is up to anyone who listens to the song to project themselfs and give it meaning. having said that, I think that since the song is about karma and given that John had instruction from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the answer to the question may be "to liberate and burn karma". what do you think?
He’s saying god would not want this for us. John and yoko are Christian’s. Not me saying that yoko said that. God is all about peace and happiness. The beautiful energy that is the god love. Not the vengeful god
I remember that morning getting ready for work, radio on and a John Lennon song playing. I had no idea what had happened the night before. Then the DJ said the late John Lennon. I was shocked. Don't remember the bus ride to work but I do remember all the newspapers and his face on the front page. I will always remember John Lennon. He came into my life when I was 14 yrs old. That was a long time ago but his music is timeless. Thanks JL🎶
Heavy drummin' kicks the song into overdrive. Great!
