- The "Trinidads Lost Railways" series continues here with Part 3 about railway preservation up to the present day (2014).
I made this video for a very important reason; to save the railway heritage of Trinidad and Tobago. Today Trinidad has 8 preserved locomotives and another who's future hangs in the balance. In addition to remaining engines in Trinidad, there is one preserved steam locomotive, No18 PICTON, which was privately purchased in 2002 and shipped back to its place of birth at Leeds in England.
This video provides a review of the Trinidad locomotives which survive today, in order of antiquity, and relates the plight of D11, an engine unique to Trinidad, still in danger of being lost.
Trinidad's national collection of surviving locomotives spans a period of 56 years (1907 to 1963) and constitutes a very respectable cross section of locomotive development through the railway period of the island. The last locomotive on the list is still at risk of being lost and efforts must be made to save her before it is too late. This video briefly explains it all and I hope will serve to underline the importance of saving these remnants of our past. The video combines contemporary and vintage footage of railway operations in Trinidad.
Nice video 👍 really enjoy watching thank you

We live in a country that do not appreciate it's history,it is sad that we so feels that we that must be copy cats that we are willing to forget the past but only willing to relive it in videos ,sad ,so sad .
nice video sir
I like it I love trains I'll like to ride in one when I return to Trinidad good progress I hope it comes through soon.
My grandfather...Henry Agustus Gorden-French retired from Trinidad Railways around 1928 after 36 years of service. I believe he trained the Junior men and drove the "passenger" trains.
+bayswater melanie your Grandfather H. A. Gordon-French was born in April of 1868 and appointed to the Trinidad Government Railways on 16th September 1903. Please contact me at galbeadon@gmail.com
That's how we have to know what a train is...sadly the future children will not know about trains in tnt
I know right

Hey Glen,I appreciate the footage. It brought back a lot of memories when I was a boy growing up in Diamond Village. Do you have any more pics and videos?
+Sherwyn Bailey Hello Sherwyn, I'm very pleased the video brought back memories of the Caroni railway. To answer your question I do have other videos on my RUclips site, look for Trinidad Railway History which is three parts and of course the other three parts of Trinidad's lost Railways.
Amazing footage.Wow
i even rode d locomotive, sometimes i was allowed to put d sand on d lines my dad was a locomotive driver
Good to know Tk you😍😍😍🏆🏆🏆🏆👍👍👍👍
it has to be one of those caroni locomotive he drove back in 60's
But why did they stopped the trains? is it that parts and stuff were hard to find for them?
Not necessarily that, I believed they stopped the railways because they were uneconomical, and in the case of Caroni, possibly because the company, Caroni 1975 LTD. was due to shut down soon.
But it's sad to know that none of our trains no longer run and I've never seen a train
Excelente video
many times d estate police tried to catch us thiefing d cane
Damn should add more change in Trinidad
I saw one by the EMBED Land Thing they ah lil before
Hi glen are those trains name after the area’s that it was servicing
i rode on top of d carriage selecting d best cane as a boy
I worked on these loco's in 1984 to 1989
bighornize, thanks for commenting. Can you tell me why D8 was changed to D9 and also, do you know what happened to D9, D12 and D14? In 2005 the three engines stored behind the cane truck maintenance shed were taken away. Do you know where these locos went?
i was an apprentice in caroni
Glen @ 8:02 in the vid where was that ? You think it's still there I would love to go see it
Jezey07 the scene in 8:02 is the point where the line split into a junction between Monkey town and Debe. The small box was called Monkey town box. Sadly, this is all gone now. I was last there in 2012 and nothing remains.
Glen Beadon on my way to knollys tunnel I would check out the sugar heritage village and see what I can see there
Speaking of That, what ever happened to Arima?
She was scrapped around the 1930s I think
What ultimately happened to D11 does anyone know?
Glen please send me your contact information ASAP Also send me an update on the book "RAILWAYS OF TRINIDAD ". this book needs to be added to the school curriculum.
Dinosaur add more trains in Trinidad my brother will kill for dreams
I want my homeland that raped us on and still do to at least have a road like theirs cctv police and army, politicians that aren’t corrupt inside out and much much more time to wake up economic development in the Caribbean islands
