The most noteworthy thing Bisping did was those nasty elbows from the bottom but he got finished in the same round so it didn't really count for anything. Only problem GSP really had with him is that he couldn't control him on the ground like his past opponents, Bisping has always been underrated in that regard.

I offer the idea that anyone challenging for the BMF belt be subject to a "catch weight class" independent from the normal weight classes. Masvidal being the holder would call the shots and the weight he wished to fight at. The challenger would then have 90 days to train and make that weight plus or minus a couple pounds.

Any fighter that trains constantly and is willing to get in the ring, prepared and without notice, is a BMF in my opinion when it comes to professional fighting. Not their life upbringing or shitty attitudes.
The BMF belt should be the only title contested between divisions. Example, Jorge vs Conor at 170. IF Conor won, he could take the BMF title to 155 and defend it against Gaethje. If Max wanted to move up again, he could try and take it back to 145. Aldo could come back to 145 and take it to 135, and the lose it to Sean O’Ma-Leg in his dreams because that’s the only place he’s still 12-0

The current title holder HAS to call out another person and that person needs to be recognized by the fans and the promotion as well, thus agreeing with the current BMF that this is the next fight to make. When I think of a BMF as it relates to Diaz and Masvidal, a few things come to mind: 1. Very independently minded and authentic. 2. Willing to throw down anytime and anywhere. 3. Fearless in combat. I offer the idea that anyone challenging for the BMF belt be subject to a "catch weight class" independent from the normal weight classes.
Masvidal being the holder would call the shots and the weight he wished to fight at. The challenger would then have 90 days to train and make that weight plus or minus a couple pounds.
GSP isn’t BMF he’s the Goat there’s a difference.

If Max wanted to move up again, he could try and take it back to 145. The current title holder HAS to call out another person and that person needs to be recognized by the fans and the promotion as well, thus agreeing with the current BMF that this is the next fight to make. If a specific period of time goes by where the BMF doesn't call out someone else for a shot at the title, the title is stripped from them.... BECAUSE THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT A BMF!.

I actually had the thought a while ago that the best use of the belt could be as a catch weight title, where fighters step outside of their weight classes and fight for the BMF title at an agreed upon weight. Almost like when Connor and Silva said they would fight at 176. I just think it would be interesting to see what would come out of that.
Here’s a suggestion: to be the BMF you have to KO the BMF.

When I think of a BMF as it relates to Diaz and Masvidal, a few things come to mind:
1. Very independently minded and authentic.
2. Willing to throw down anytime and anywhere.
3. Fearless in combat.
With those criteria, I agree with Uncle Chael that Sanchez, Lawler, and Swanson are BMFs. Maybe Adesanya, but he’s a little too tactical in fights to be a BMF. McGregor and Covington aren’t because too much of their persona is an act.

Journeyman is not an insult, it’s just the name we use to describe skilled fighters who enjoy a long career with notable wins/losses but never reach the highest of levels, such as winning or fighting for the title, which applies to Diaz and many other fighters.
I never said BJ Penn is a journeyman, he has a record 3 LW titles defenses and he is one of the very few fighters to be champions in 2 divisions since he was also a WW champion, but he lost the GSP fight in case you didn’t know so check your facts casual.

A BMF contender to me is someone who is a trash talker that has a fighting style of stand and bang. My list for BMF contender excluding weight class would be. Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz. Conor mcgregor. Michael bisbing. Colby Covington and that’s it
BMF title qualifiers could be fighters who never turn down fights, or have a string of amazing knock outs or submissions or fighters who never give up even when losing or all the above.

BMF's should be ranked via point system based on career fight of the night bonuses multiplied by the number of fights, not just wins they had in a calendar year. Points deducted for pulling out of fights extra points for stepping in for last minute replacements.
