Actually the word 'Purdah' is a Persian word and this system was introduced in India during the Mughal rule. Indian culture was actually very modern and inclusive before foreign invasions. If you see the carvings on old Hindu temples, women are never shown in any kind of veils. Since the Mughal rule was more spread across the northern part of India, hence it was imposed and later followed in some parts to actually protect the honor of women. Glad to see you and your family exploring the heritage locations. Can't wait for the Himalayas series.
