Because the Hypercars have the speed difference over the GT3s to do so. 🤦♂️ He’s got the inside of the corner anyway. The BMW HP was following way too closely in such dense traffic - especially when there was a mixed gaggle of GTs and HPs in the mix. But as always in racing: It’s the responsibility of the faster car to overtake safely. This is especially so for the HPs overtaking GTs.

Where porsche looking and why bmw dont do some brake for not crashing
The Porsche was doing a lift and coast, the BMW wasn’t expecting it - though that was the BMW’s fault for following so closely into a hard, downhill braking zone anyway.
Maybe I'm uninformed but can someone explain to me how the BMW was supposed to know the Porsche was going to lift and coast in front of him? Yea he was following close, but it's a race and he just slowed down.

When you’re in dense traffic like that, you generally don’t want to follow another car so closely like the BMW was doing. It was less about the lift and coast. But mostly because the GT cars will NOT see you coming if you’re tucked up behind another Hypercar like that and you will have a crash.
Plus, as per the rules and general code of conduct in endurance, you cannot as a prototype rely on the GT teams to tell their drivers to move out of the way for you. Not when a) they’re not a “back-marker” like in F1, they’re running their own race in another class, they’re not obliged to slow down or get out the way. It’s not like overtaking a back-marker in your own class and they are obliged to move. And b) It is always the responsibility of the faster car to overtake safely. And c) If you’re a GT and you get a blue flag because of a Hypercar, that’s not a “move out of the way” sign. It’s a “there’s a much faster car behind you” sign - but it’s still the responsibility of the faster car to overtake safely.

The problem was Jota lifted off throttle to maintain some tires and fuel and the 20 BMW didn’t react fast enough causing a shunt into Jota then into the 46 BMW GT3 car

Put amateurs in expensive fast race cars around pro drivers competing for a world championship, & you end up with multi-million euro accidents that delay the show for hours & rob the fans of the headline drivers they actually came to see. Not a single lap from Rossi nor Button thanks to this.
Ahem: Hanson and Wittman have been driving tintops much, much, much longer than Rossi and Button - they’re Gold and Platinum rated drivers, they’re not “amateurs.”
Plus, if you rock up to an endurance race to watch one driver then you’re honestly watching the wrong motorsport. And on top of that, we hardly got deprived of a great motor-race - the 7 3/4 hrs of Spa was mega.
And as an aside, don’t pretend that F1 drivers don’t have multi-million euro accidents every weekend they go racing. 😂😂😂
