      I have a tire beater in tucked into the right side of the driver's seat of my care for self defense because my job often puts me in situations where I am at least somewhat concerned about somebody "waiting for me in the parking lot." This thing looks to be about that size folded up, and so much more of a deterrent if you have time to unfold it.
      The advantage of the tire beater, however, is that cops don't blink an eye or say a word about it because truckers and tow-truck drivers mostly do the exact same thing. The folding machete has the potential to start an uncomfortable conversation.

    Interesting fact - in my country, a carry legal knife has to be single edge and folding. It doesn't say anything about dimensions. I think I've got myself a german messer situation :D

    • @MrRickRoffel
      @MrRickRoffel 7 лет назад +123

      Luka Actually the german laws don't regulate blade length in a knife that has to be opened with two hands (so no thumb pins or flippers etc.), so that this Monster should be completely legal to carry.

    • @Jumper1155
      @Jumper1155 7 лет назад +38

      Gott They do. Maximum size of 12 centimeters even for folders like this as the blade can be locked in position by the steel ring. I don't know how this would be if you couldn't lock the blade... but locked blades cap at 12 cm for legal everyday carry.

    • @Elmithian
      @Elmithian 7 лет назад +8

      Jumper1155 So if I don't lock it I would be allowed to use it?

    • @Jumper1155
      @Jumper1155 7 лет назад +23

      Elmithian No. It comes down to you being able to possibly lock it. Same thing for one-hand knifes. Because you can open them with one hand instead of two they are illegal to carry in Germany (stupid law btw as mechanical spring supported folders are allowed up to 7cm of blade length). It doesn't matter if you utilize the feature, it matters that you could.

      In Germany, you could legally carry this, because it would be considered a folding knife. If it was a fixed blade knife with the exact same dimensions, you could not carry it without a legal reason.
      Don't just take my word for it if you plan on carrying this knife in Germany, because I'm just a layman. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that there are more detailed regulations for the carrying of knives and other 'dangerous objects' in buildings, on private property and during public events.

      It's like the Medieval version of the "Assault Weapons ban". Just slightly reword it so that it isn't an "assault weapon" (It only becomes an assault weapon if it has certain cosmetic features), and you're good. So just reword this so it isn't a "sword" it's a "War Knife/Large War Knife" (I like Kriegsmesser more than Messer.)

      Opinel is a foolding knive company. I as swiss appreciate their affordable, simple but well made products. The opinel is much more focused on one task good, then doing everything. That beeing said: They make flooding knives, foolding saws and kitchen knives - and that´s about it. Opinel tools are build to be used. They can rust (when you get the carbon steel line), they will get dull (but they are designed to be sharpened), they will wear out (by use and abuse) - but by the time it is put to rest they will have a story.

      nicely said Sarowie ;o)
      - I used to buy a few each time I went to France - and I still have quite a collection (though not this monstrosity shown here!). You can easily sharpen one on the back of the blade of another, to razor sharpness. In wet conditions they rust, and the wood deteriorates quickly too. Back then (90s) they were super cheap, roughly the same amount of Francs as the number of the knife (size 8-9 mostly). By now I think they are a bit over priced - but the nostalgia is there.

      My previous EDC knife (when I'm hiking or whatever, not just for wandering to the shops, okay?) was a Whitby, and it lasted years just fine until the day I forgot to transfer it to hold baggage and donated it to the nice lady working the scanner. I picked up an Opinel replacement, because it was lighter, and the blade corroded. Nice edge, but not the seawater-resistant beauty that the Whitby was. The Whitby knife had a little knob on the side of the blade near the hinge to fold it out fast with a thumb and a sprung lever to lock it open. Up side: one-handed opening and closing. Down side: You *have to* put your thumb across the groove as you push that lever to release the blade and start to fold it, then move your thumb before you finish folding it.

    Here in France we call the Mora's : "the fixed blade Opinel's" (i guess Swedish people would say it the other way around :)) because they are alike in terms of value for money. They are ideal for cooking, butchers and hunters love them as well.
    Advantages :
    - Very sharp
    - Inexpensive
    - Good quality wood handle
    - Doesn't look "tactical", so you have some chance that the police will be more forgiving (wearing knives is forbidden here). It has a "grandpa's tool" vibe to it.
    Downsides :
    - Quite fragile blades due to their thinness, especially the point, so not bushcraft/survival oriented, nor combat.
    - The ferrule blade lock tends to turn by itself when using it, so make sure to verify it regularly during use.
    - No guard.

    That knife cuts through things as if they're made out of butter.
    Usually i see that when one cuts with other blades,some effort is put into it,and even then they may not cut through things like this blade does.
    Beautiful effortless cutting of things seen in this vid,truly amazing.
    Call me weird,but i also just love how the water moves in slow motion as the blade goes through the containers and the water within.

      Actually to me Corvo's sword looks more like an insanely sharp single use replaceable blade rather than a sword (like a surgical scalpel or those things they use in Attack on Titan) . It's light weight and small size as well as the super sharp blade make it great for assassinations. Only real advantage that it gives Corvo over a smaller knife is the reach advantage when fighting other people wielding swords.

    • @Leo.23232
      @Leo.23232 7 лет назад +6

      You cannot fight other people with swords with that as it is too fragile. A knife would be much better at assassinations due to being more convenient, but would also not break upon parrying another sword, or hitting/stabbing someone with it. You see, with Corvo's sword, it may break upon either slashing at someone or when parrying. Therefore, a knife is better in my opinion.

    Nice walking stick with a thin titanium sword blade that flipped out! A button press a twist and you flip out the blade with a thin section that drop's down with the twist and moves to one side. Then when blade flip's out the section snap's right back up into place for a smooth handle with the end of the walking stick being the helt. A very nice piece of working artwork. 😊👍

    Okay I'm a bit late on this video but here is the Reason why it existed:
    In France before 2012 any "Canif" was allowed no matter the size (a Canif is a folding knife basically with the blade that is the exact same size as the handle) so this weapon was literally legal to handle on the streets from any french citizens due to a lack of law from this. It obviously been fixed for obvious issues lol

      hmmm no,
      we have a "legend" in france who say if the blade is bigger than you hand its illegal but its false;
      aller asisted opened knife , flick knife etc,
      and all knive with the blade opened (like food knifes)
      or all blaxe with a mecanism to block totally the blade,
      the opinel do that with the "virole" the ring who lock the blade so theorically its prohibed its why some old people have remove that from her opinels;
      but in fact so many french a one of these classical blade n°6 or N°8 in the biggest sales,
      but if you come with this monster and some cops come to control your indentity etc of course they keep that beast if you have chance and if you have not he keep him and you to go to the police station,
      your law are rude ^^ the only exeotion is knife like leatherman or some victorinox who;
      at le eyes of the law its a tool,
      not a knife,
      so you can have a tool with you that no problem !!!
      but if the cops control you and he is really in his mad day he can keep him too :/
      sorry for my horrible english level

    • @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560
      @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560 6 лет назад

      its category D yes not C C whe can see 22lr mas 36 etc etc so obviously its not the same category,
      the category D let you buy him if you are older than 18years BUT the law dont let keep him in the street etc etc,
      they are category for the weapon and some specific law about knifes and "white weapon" "arme blanche" in french i dont know the equivalnt in english but thats mean all blade, blunt weapon, knife etc all contact weapon
      so the category is not the only thing who describe the law of the knifes.

    • @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560
      @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560 4 года назад

      @Izno Iznogoud so you have a lot of chance if they didnt shearshed you,
      it ca be look at tool if it was one like the "normal" opinel or a leatherman for example an italian automatic knife ... mmmmh no ^^ it's not dumb to carry some paté with that ahah ^^
      ". Now the law doesn't says what reason, so if it's to cut your baguette, put pâté on the baguette, sausage (sauciflard), etc, it can be seen as a tool..."
      sorry but no if the blade its blocked a law say it was illegal even if you have a baguette ^^ all of locked blade, normally are prohibited so opinel too but in france it was so frequent to see one so you can keep him but an automatic jnife for example no, the grey zone are for the "real" tool knife like leatherman victorinox etc they are in category of tools, but if the cops can see your head he can keep him too same thing if ou have a real tool like hammer saw or watewer

    • @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560
      @hugoquelquechosecommeca3560 4 года назад

      @Izno Iznogoud and the spray in france it was really not clear llot of them are prohibited some are accepted but in general they dont blame you for carry one cause they know its a defense weapon not an offensive one so ... like some knifes depending the cops humor ! for one time in france you can defend you without take problem with justice, that is nice ! but if one day your defense is a knife even an opinel i reaaaly dont think they dont gonna arrest you even in denfense for your life :/

    Man, that was one of the coolest, most entertaining and just out of the norm video you've ever made. And the thing is, taking it seriously, one would think the knife might break, but you demonstrated that it's sharpness makes it quite a cutter. I have the number 8 which I bought used from someone who was selling a bunch of knives. I knew what it was, but didn't know or think that I would like it that much. I did sand the handle to fit my hand better - mild customization. It's very nice for fine cutting tasks and opening letters or trimming away loose threads... it's like a pocket scalpel. I really enjoyed the video and watching you slice.
