LISTENING FROM DALLAS TEXAS ON THIS WINTRY COLD WEDNESDAY JANUARY 10TH 2024 1:24 AM. I am now 80 years old...recollecting days of my youth by listening to songs thst I am reminded of special places. Loves of old, family, trips, events etc etc. Music is the best escape we have.. .music is life itself.
Yo, Alexandra - In Chicago, I am Singing Love-Songs in French to small, public audiences - All Ages. We never change - Inside - and that's a Good Thing !
This song makes me cry bc I’m 70’s now and alone. Everything is vague memories and lost in touch. Many many regrets. I even can’t forget those foolishness I did. Sad.
One very important thing that you should avoid is REGRET. I’m in my early 70s with regrets but I try my best not to bring them back. Otherwise it’d be double pain, the regrets & its cause that would damage my body, organs…… Instead tell yourself you’re not by yourself, we’re so many of us that have regrets specially ladies. I heard one successful actress being interviewed, at the end he asked her if she has any regrets in her life & she said “Wow, if I regret they are uncountable BUT never, ignore them all & move forward since I don’t want to hurt myself…….” Anyway I tried to follow her steps & here I am going strong like Johnny Walker😀
I’m 70 and fully empathetic with you, so so many regrets. Our dear dear precious Shirl has been making me cry since I discovered her when I was 15 around the time I also fully understood that I was and would remain an Atheist for life, which is sooh painful at this stage in life but seeing the parasitic vultures G & B replies below reaffirms my regret that they still exist and continue to lurk around waiting for any opportunity to preach their myth. Shirl’s “My life” has always topped my evolved “Top 10 songs of my life. As reply (a) says though, you’re not alone there are millions of us living full of regrets. Thank you for sharing your emotions
I heard this song when I was 17 full of ambition in life. now I’m 63 and still fond of iconic song. Shirley Bassey have a great voice. Wish her good health, happiness. May the good Lord bless her always.
Yesterday, when I was young The taste of life was sweet Like rain upon my tongue I teased at life as if It were a foolish game The way an evening breeze Would tease a candle flame The thousand dreams I dreamed The splendid things I planned I always built to last On weak and shifting sand I lived by night and shunned The naked light of day And only now I see How the years have ran away Yesterday, when I was young There were so many songs That waited to be sung So many wild pleasures That lay in store for me And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see I ran so fast that time And youth at last ran out I never stopped to think What life was all about And every conversation That I can recall Concerns itself with me And nothing else at all
Saw this amazing singer when I was a very young girl about 7 or 8 she gifted her flowers to my sister and have signed photos to my brothers I will never forget her kindness to them
I saw her with my friend Miranda when she came to wellington town hall. We were both 12 and just loved her. My dad was a journalist with a paper called Countdown and he had free tickets that he gave to us. Lovely to hear her to start my day today.
Incomparable Shirley! She is so lovely and so talented and gave so many people so much happiness with her glorious voice. God keep you always Dame Shirley 💖💖
I heard her for the first time over 50 years ago when I was still in comunist Romania. I borrowed a plastic disc that I listened to endlessly day and night for over a month till my friend asked me to return it. Since then I have never listened to her mesmerising voice again till this year when I found this clip on U-tube. Then I started again looking like a maniac on U-tube for all her clips I could find. After almost 40 years living in usa I could match her image to her voice and understand tje meaning of the text behind eatch of her songs. I have been even deeper moved by her talent as musician and scene presence. Every day I listen to one of her songs alterating with songs by Aznavour, Gilbert Becaou, Yves Montand, Celentano, Gabriella Ferri, ABBA, Tom Johnes, Imma Sumack and singers of the new wave Lara Fabian, Patricia Kaas, Dimash, Shaman, Pelagea, Ankudinova, Gagarina. I also try to listen to all songs of the genius russian composer and pianist Ygor Krutoy.
Of course, George. But some of us have No Regrets and have No Taste of Bitter Tears upon the Tongue. Yessir, I endured as Shirley Bassey Sings-it ... bit then, I met a Good Woman - better than I. I "Gottit"; which-is more than you can say for most American Men: Poor Babies. Deluded by their Dads. Wrecked by the Age of Four. It takes alotta Un-Learning. And who - really - cares about much-at-all ? The Great Satan is a Hinderer. Not a Helper.

Such a deep song. Few can do it justice. But this lady met the challenge and executed the demand with strength and grace.
Beautiful comment, and Shirley wasn't a Dame when she recorded this version.
Yesterday, when I was young
The taste of life was sweet
Like rain upon my tongue
I teased at life as if
It were a foolish game
The way an evening breeze
Would tease a candle flame
The thousand dreams I dreamed
The splendid things I planned
I always built to last
On weak and shifting sand
I lived by night and shunned
The naked light of day
And only now I see
How the years have ran away
Yesterday, when I was young
There were so many songs
That waited to be sung
So many wild pleasures
That lay in store for me
And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see
I ran so fast that time
And youth at last ran out
I never stopped to think
What life was all about
And every conversation That I can recall
Concerns itself with me
And nothing else at all
You missed three entire verses.
Never mind. French song originally composed by Charles Aznavour.
