Not gonna lie the most terrifying part of this movie was the non existent laboratory safety precautions. Open flames right next to flammable liquids, storing open chemicals on shelves that I know aren’t cleared for that amount of weight, no lab coat, leaving an open flame unattended, and that Nitric Acid is not properly labeled. Frankly it’s a miracle he was wearing safety glasses (but no gloves). I was half expecting him to start slurping the boiling liquid up through a pipet like straw
This one is a guilty pleasure for me. Incidentally, the building used as the high school was in reality an insane asylum that was abandoned. Today, the hospital was restored and converted into housing. The title of April Fool’s Day was also used for the UK poster. The mask used in the film was a Cesar mask made in 1977.
I love that your character has evolved so much. He went from being that guy who grew up renting Criterion movies at the video store to being you, someone who grew up renting slasher movies. You’ve let your character become yourself and that works.
Slaughter High is, without question, one of my favorite “comfort” films. I rented it for my 12th birthday slumber party, and we all saw male full frontal! So many great quotes in this gem. ♥️🎸
When I saw this film for the first time I looked up actors filmographies to see if there’s anything of interest they been in. And I was saddened when as you mentioned that Simon Scuddamore who plays Marty passed away very young and this film is his sole acting credit.
How did they not know this was all a setup by the classmate they bullied? Especially with Marty's locker? Oh wait it doesn't matter because it was all a dream, albeit a stupid one. I really wanted Marty to get his revenge. Very tragic that Simon committed suicide. He was actually really good in this like you said.
He really did. Or at least, maybe. Nearly every reviewer chalks the killings up to a dream. I thought of this ending as him hallucinating, and then someone just happened to find him and deliver him to the hospital.
I always figure he does get his revenge after. Like he wakes from his coma and seeks them out because let’s be honest he was probably having that dream constantly recurring for him and definitely murder in his eyes when he wakes. And yeah it really sucks he killed himself. He is really good in this.
This movie always made me sad. I am not saying that certain individuals didn’t deserve punishment… But there’s something about this particular movie that feels broken.
@@ShadowSonic2that and Chainsaw 3D seemed to forget that when it was supposed to take place 40 years after the original and not 20-25😂 Daddario played someone who it turns out was supposed to be a baby around the time of the original
It's like Terror Train and Carrie had a baby and became Slaughter High! One thing I always have loved about early 80s horror is they all have that soft glow/fog ambience/atmosphere.
Now this is a Guilty Pleasure favorite of mine. Right up there alongside with "Chicken Little" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". R.I.P. Simon Scuddamore. He DEFINITELY could've played Spider-Man back then.
I have a binder full of comic book cards from sixth grade that has a sparkly sticker of the Slaughter High skeleton on it I won out of a machine in a bowling alley. I've never seen the movie, but it's nostalgic for me just because of that sticker lol. I thought it was so cool.
I've never understood the part of this movie when they go back for the supposedly reunion it and you can most definitely tell the high school has been abandoned for years.
This goes next to Scrapbook in the "too much for its lead" category. "Goody Two Shoes" is fun because it usually means the stripper took some dance classes when she was younger. "All of your friends got killed at a high school reunion... and you call THAT The Tractor Story?!?"
I do like that the reveal at the end was all in his head. It does explain how some things were set up too perfectly or why they did some dumb shit. Not perfect and also kind of a cop out, but I don’t mind it in this movie
Yeah, if you are gonna do something like that you'd better take advantage of it to create some great scenarios. Slumber Party Massacre 2 did it the best but this one did it fine as well.
I love that one guy thinks it'll all be over at noon, as if Marty is just going to start killing someone at 11:59 and one minute later completely stop because 'that's the rule'. If Jason was on his killing spree he'd completely stop at midnight on Saturday the 14th. That slasher movie is starting now, gotta stop my killing spree because Pamela Voorhees is all about rules and Jason always listens to his mother.
Caroline Munro?!?!? How in the hell did I forget that? It's like forgetting that John Goodman was in Revenge Of The Nerds. Great review! Funny as hell!
R.I.P. Simon:( If only he knew he was absolutely my type:( I found out about this movie 15 years ago when I discovered Caroline Munro...she was MY age here:O Since it was filmed in 1984, Marty really COULD'VE been Toxie! I wish;)
Ahh sweet music to my ears hearing the 30+ year old brittish actors drifting in and out of that accent. Got to say with a few simple tweaks this could be a high school comedy.
Wow, his classmates were cruel, sadistic people for those “pranks” they played on him. It’s a wonder how he didn’t die. Then they’re saying it wasn’t their fault. It may have gone a bit differently than they intended, but it was most certainly their fault.
4:33 "But we're the popular clique! We can't face repercussions for our actions!" 6:32 OK, the nerd has no one to blame but himself for putting a big open jug of Nitric Acid on the top of the rickety shelf. Was this before schools taught lab safety at the beginning of each year?
I first encountered Caroline Munro playing a "missing" companion of the Peter Davison Doctor Who on radio. The character is a time displaced Egyptian Pharoah and many of the running jokes involve fellow companion Peri explaining that in most of the rest of the universe a bikini of bronze coins isn't really suitible attire. Having recently seen this and Star Crash I finally get why...
Loved this one. Pure schlock!!! I was able to pick up a 4 pack with this an a few other turds in the punch bowl. Good on you for covering this. You constantly impress Brad.
I met Caroline Munro a few months ago. She said that whenever she goes to the US, the ONLY film memorabilia that anyone wants her to sign is from this film.
@louisduarte8763 That's what she said to us in the audience in the Q&A session last year. She could be exaggerating for effect, though. The chance that every single item would be SH I'd think is slim. Maybe she means most.
Hold up, the actor who played the coach also played one of the cops in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy tv series. And apparently did a lot of voice work for anime localizations too. Damn, small world.
I think Marty is (one) of the most Sympathic killer in an 80s slasher, has lines sure where funny.. As for the victims, even if they didn't disfigure him or picked on him i still wanted Marty to creatively and painfully kill them because they where AAF (it took actually a little bit too long before the fun started).. The film should have ended with the killer coming out of the showers after the last kill...

Honestly, would’ve been better if the film ended on an actual April Fools joke. Like if they still do the “it-was-all-a-dream” ending, but with Carol instead, then when they actually go to the reunion, they seem to be the only ones who show up to the gym again, only for Marty to suddenly repeat the same prank they did to him at the beginning of the film. My class and my sister’s both did five and ten year reunions. I refused to go because I was severely bullied in high school and except for the severe burns, I can heavily identify with Marty.
