Another great review , I am more of a Chevy guy myself but the Ltd/Marques were some of the best riding cars i ever drove or been driven in. Only beat out by the previous gen LTD in my opinion. They have the 1995 Ltd review on here also, i think you should do a review on what they updated and changed compared to the 92's. And i would love to see you do a review on the 92' Caprice Impala and see who you think won the battle especially with the Caprice Impala getting car of the year in 91.
I've always wanted to own one of these cars, just because they are so comfortable and famously reliable. Ford definitely lacked some imagination during this time. They could have used the powertrain from these full size sedans to power a midsize or slightly larger car, possibly based off the Thunderbird platform lightly stretched if need be to fit in four doors and a reasonable amount of space. I think something like that as the Lincoln Continental would be much more intriguing and competitive than the front wheel drive Taurus looking thing that they came out with in the 90s, especially if they got the interior quality right. At the very least, they could have made a nice Ford or Mercury out of it, but I think the wise choice would be not to water it down by offering it under all three brands, though I'm sure the bean counters would have a different idea.
There's a video on RUclips that recommends the crown Vic or Mercury grand Marquis for a first time driver or a student. They also talk about them being simple to repair and it's big size making it very comfortable and very safe because of its size. They said it's just not a grandpa car. I also remember it being used for taxi service and police packages
The best car I've never driven but endlessly told I should
The main reason I bought one of those massive v8 HEMI full size trucks was BECAUSE it was the MOST vehicle I could get for my $35,000 new right now....
I am firmly in that old school midwest American mindset of if I'm going to shell out the money I want the most vehicle possible. And it's a lot of money to me.
Interesting....
@@raymond_sycamore Oth, I never buy my cars by the kilogram. My 720kg Alto RS cost me $24k USD to import used from Japan. MY 800kg Copen was only $18k in Australian pesos. Different outlooks, Cheers raymond.
@@UncleJoeLITE what are you talking about?
@raymond_sycamore Ok, you said you buy your cars\trucks based on $ per kilo, I buy what I really like, cost per kilo isn't part of my thought process. Eg, I'd rather buy a top quality Japanese small car than a RAM 1500 for the same price. Hope this clears it up.
I owned two 2000's from almost new to the early 2020s. They were great car's to about the 16 year mark then it was non stop problems.Ford did an awful job at rust proofing the Panthers. I've owned an Old's 88, Buick Century & Coupe Deville none of them had frame rust problems and that was after year's of parking them in the coastal town I live in.
Are the Lincoln Town Cars of the 90s -00s based on this too? I've ridden in Crown Vics a few times as taxis, but more in Town Cars in Fils. Cheers Jon. 🇦🇺 🇵🇭
Yes the Lincoln Town cars were on the same platform as the Ltd/Marques , they were called the Panther platform.
@artax7438 thanks 👍
Where fuel was cheap, I would certainly have opted for one of these over something like a Honda Accord. In Britain, this is what we would think of as a proper American car. The column change means it can accommodate three in the front. Was this kind of large car, especially as a station wagon, any less practical than the pick ups and boring SUV's that people drive today?
I respect the durability of these cars, but they're not my taste at all. They're terrible as far as use of space is concerned.
My new Malibu has unbelievably more rear leg room and that's a mid-size car.
