I'll never forget watching this game. I was in the 6th grade watching with my dad in the living room. It seems like yesterday not 41 years ago here in 2022.
I was 20 years old when I went to this game with my wife and one of my brothers. My wisdom teeth were coming in and I was in a lot of pain but I didn’t care. Everything went wrong for Texas and everything went right for the Hogs. This is still the best game I saw in person.
Got to love those uniforms. Those were the days when you turned on the tv, you didn't have to see the score board, or hear the announcers. Just looking at the uniforms you knew that was the hogs. BTW, I was there that day, I was 12 years old. When I seen Billy Ray Smith come out of that pile holding that football, I swear to you he looked 10 feet tall he was holding the football up in his right had, jumping then ran back to the sidelines like a mad man. I jumped so high I thought I was going to fall into the row of seats in front of me. I have still not heard a crowd any louder than at that moment at that game. #87 your still my all time favorite razorback.
I made the trip with my girlfriend after our buddies could not agree on where to watch the game. We were in Little Rock Friday night before the game and at 10:00pm I said, "Let's go to Fayetteville". She said let's go and off we went. We slept in the car when reaching Hog City and were very lucky to get tickets before the game. We were on the 10th row and every time I looked over my shoulder to see the crowd, they were going crazy THE WHOLE GAME. What a great time we had on an "off-the-cuff-fling.
I drove from Wynne with 3 buddies didn't have tickets, got lucky scored some drunk on Dickson slept in my car, drove back next day hung over and happy.
Arkansas should have never gotten rid of Lou Holtz. I’ll always remember watching this game on TV and seeing the fans rip down the goalpost before the end of the game.
I remember this one..had to work that saturday. Was building a fence for a customer,(inTexas) he invited me and my brother inside to watch this game. His Granddaughter and her friend cooked up a good meal for us while we watched the game. Remember that Stan? It was a great day! GHG...WPS!! :-)
And from this day forward for better or worse. I have been an Arkansas razorback football fan. I hate to compare it to a marriage. But that is really what it's been. I'm married to them. Through the good or through the bad. I will always pull for the hogs. From this day forward. Let's go hogs.
I watched this game in full and have never seen a #1 ranked team play so poorly. It was a horror show. And it was their only loss of the season #WPS 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
I watched this game with my dad when I was about 6 years old boy we put a whooping on them Texas longhorns that day, Lou holtz was a great coach one of the best Arkansas ever had,it's something that last week I watched Arkansas play BYU with my dad at 47 years old and win that game I haven't had all the luxuries in life but I'm lucky to still be able to watch Arkansas football with my Dad when they're many my age that doesn't have a dad to enjoy that with
I was there on that chilly October afternoon. I remember the Longhorn Band was there, too. They ate at our main dining facility (Brough) and suddenly broke out into "The Eyes Of Texas Are Upon You." The 'Horns were really off that day, and we capitalized. We used to have a saying: "I like two teams, the Razorbacks and whoever Texas plays!" Great old SWC memories!
I was there also, got a free ticket to the game, and I'll admit, I thought Texas would whip us pretty good. So glad I couldn't have been more wrong. The party on Dickson that night was absolutely insane.
Frank didn't want to expand it I heard. He said he'd rather have a full stadium that a huge one that wasn't full. He probably said that because Rice, TCU and SMU and Houston couldn't fill their stadiums up unless Texas Arkansas or A&M were visiting!
So was I, looking at my ticket stub right now, drove up early that morning with 3 friends spur of the moment, no tickets, somehow snagged 4 seats 30 yard line in the parking lot, the football gods shone brightly on us and Arkansas that day, hung out on Dickson st till late night, passed out in my 80 camaro ,arms and legs everywhere, car smelled like a brewery, drove back next day hung over and happy, 21 yrs old then, seems like yesterday. Sooie pig!
@@ringonor4298 yup...back then you could grab a ticket....best seats available for $20. My cousin and I sat on the Tx side 50 yd line and enjoyed the beatdown....when the game ended...walked over to Barnhill and watched the Air Supply concert....helluva day😆🐗🐗🐗
I had to work that day. I was a Texas fan (and eventual Texas grad) who worked with mostly Arkansas fans. In Texarkana. They made my day miserable! Total beat down. Arkansas rarely beat us and when they did they rubbed it in worse than anyone.
As much as I hate to admit it, Texas pretty much dominated this rivalry, if i"m not mistaken they about doubled our win total. Fortunes have changed since the old SWC days and Ar has handled them pretty good the last 20 years but back in '81 this was HUGE for Hog fans.
Was 12 at the time and never forget how flat the Horns looked pregame. Had Arkansas # forever along with coming off a huge win vs. OU was the perfect letdown situation.
The upset of the 'Horns here was the beginning of the end of the Holtz era at AR-simply because it set up unrealistic expectations. The next year, they started 8-0, before being upset by Baylor in Waco 24-17-then followed it up with a controversial tie with SMU at 17 on national TV. Then in another national TV game, they laid an egg against the 'Horns in Austin. They ended up beating Florida in the BlueBonnett Bowl to finish 9-2-1. The 83 Hogs were a toxic mix of youth and entitlement, and EVERYONE was impatient-they struggled to finish 6-5-and Lou was let go
As a Horn fan....I was embarrassed by the performance of Texas in this game. I think they were Hung-Over from the OU win the previous week. This was their only loss of the season. They wound beating Bear Bryant's Alabama in the Cotton Bowl game. I think Arkansas Spiked their water with Moonshine or something.
Rick McIvor said nothing went wrong right. He was right. Hogs felt disrespected cause nobody gave them a chance. Holtz even said the guys from ABC sports were asking him to "please try to keep it respectable ok Lou?"! You know Lou told'em that before the game and they were out of their minds with indignation! Ha!
I disagree with "nothing better than beating the Horns.' There is something better than beating the Horns: beating the Horns and having steak for dinner.
Damn that game sucked! Many Arkansas alumni I've talked with felt like that was absolution for the Game Of The Century. It's THAT game that quelled ANY chance at a National Championship.
someone explain to me, one of those td's get called back? I was there too, don't remember. But the video showed 2 texas touchdowns and one field goal. That's a minimum of 15 pts even without extra pt kicks? But Go Hogs, best win ever!

WARMACHINE2013 my friend I know I've asked you this before but would you happen to have the 1987 Arkansas versus Baylor football game I believe James Rouse scores a touchdown with seconds left in the game
I always cringe when I see these old games because of the razor thin turf. That stuff looks like it hurts to land on. It's so thin it looks like the people are running on a tennis court, no soft landings here.
@@jamesmccracken3273 Thank you for the information. I've always wondered why he only played for I think 2 seasons. 80 and 81. Did he get injured too badly to return? I know Brad Taylor started and played in the Gator Bowl at the end of the season and he was a true freshman.
I'll never forget watching this game. I was in the 6th grade watching with my dad in the living room. It seems like yesterday not 41 years ago here in 2022.
Gotta be one of the very best wins in program history. I wish we'd do the solid red jersey more.
Me too Mike, I'm a throw back kinda fan
The old school plain Jane uni's designs were way better than now. Less is definitely more when it comes to uni's
These schools have gotten so stupid with adding colors and changing the patterns so much I can't stand it.

What an upset this was. Probably the greatest upset in the history of this rivalry (other than 2003, of course).
Randy Dubin I’d say this one was bigger. Texas was ranked #1 going in to this game.
