Something to keep in mind is that if you're planning to move to Mérida, buy a house, and renovate it, working with local people can be very difficult and exhausting, as they often fail to follow through. It's preferable to look for architects and workers from outside the region, such as people from Mexico City, Guadalajara, etc. The city already has many people from other places who can better assist you with the maintenance and renovation of your project. I say this from personal experience and from that of many friends who went through the same thing. Best regards!
Tampa here again. I did find the Airbnb you are staying in but it was a little pricy for me being on a budget. However, Amy did a beautiful job on rehab of the house. Thanks again for your info, and I am looking forward to my travels to Merida.
Thank you for your lovely tour of my house! It was so great having you. You are welcome to be my guest (a year from now) when I finish the casita at my own house.
Sooooo crazy! Several months ago, Branko and I watched a few videos that your host did on RUclips to show her Casas! We loved both her places. We saw the video where the construction of the second casa was just being started. Wow...what a small world. I recognized the first place you stayed in right away and then when you showed us the second place, my jaw dropped. The pool, the outdoor space, everything is so beautiful!
We have never met Amy in person, but what a great host! Both places are wonderful and we highly recommend them. Thank you for watching and safe travels!
@@BrianandCarrie Living vicariously through you! My word for 2025 is Intentional and I plan to grow my business even more this year, so I will be doing what you're doing in two years...when I turn 60!
I wish you would have including your housing costs like you have done in previous cost of travel videos. While I understand that it's a range, it would be helpful to compare/contrast to other locations. Mexico looks awesome. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
Hi, Jamie, we did add links that will help you decide what would work best for you. The costs do compare equally to other locations that we visited in Mexico. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you as well!! ❤️😊
Glad to see you finally made it to Mexico. Merida is a beautiful City. I hope you are able to explore other Mexico Regions. They are all different and have their own genuine beauty.
Thank you! Merida was our last stop in the series. Oaxaca was amazing as well as Guanajuato, and San Miguel de Allende. We look forward to our return! 😊
We've been following you for some time and one of my favorite aspects is that your all inclusive costs. If you were gifted this accommodation then we are happy for you, but it would have been nice to have it included what it would have cost you in the total costs. By excluding the largest expense it leaves an incomplete picture to the actual costs, in my opinion. Thanks for all that you do. Love your content.
Thank you for the feedback and for supporting the channel. We have the link in the video description of our accommodations. We were asked not to give the current price, but moving forward, based on viewers' feedback, we will be. We apologize for the confusion and wish you Marry Christian! ❤️
What a gorgeous accomodation! I went to Amy's website and both if her places are phenomenal. The attention to detail is amazing. So, heres my question: did you get some sort of deep discount for you 3 weeks? I ask because the nightly rates would far exceed the $735 total you quoted for the total costs. Thanks for clarifying.
Hi! In our cost breakdown we stated our final costs did not include accommodations, that was just for other living costs for the time we were there. We were offered a discount on our stay as we were the first guests staying and she wanted us to give it a test run and see if there were any issues that arose. They are both beautiful homes and we highly recommend them 😊.
I enjoyed watching you guys delighting in that gorgeous house. I posted before that Merida seems like a great place to slow travel. Indeed! I’m not sure if you are posting any videos during Christmas week. If not, Happy Holidays wishes to you, your families and friends, as well as the community here. We are celebrating Christmas here in Taiwan…with a little “Charlie Brown” Christmas Tree in our apartment. Cheers!
We are contemplating releasing our video/podcast at 7:00 am Tuesday morning as usual. Viewers may be busy on Christmas Eve but it's ready to go! 😁 Happy Holidays, Jim, and thank you for all the support!!
Brian and Carrie, We have been following you since the beginning. We've watched all of your videos This is the first time you didn't say how much your accommodation price was. If you received it as a promotion or gift, good for you, you deserve it!! Please let us know what 3 weeks would have been. We have always respected your transparency. You called your video "The Real Cost"
We appreciate the support and feedback! We have run into issues recently with giving our accommodation pricing, so we chose to leave the link in the video description instead. The feedback that we are receiving, we will most definitely go back to our original format. Thank you again for the support. 😊
@@BrianandCarrielove ya guys and I been following since the beginning also, but I too am noticing a definite shift away from budget traveling. I did use your link and checked on a 28 day stay and at $1000+ per week, this is not in my budget by any means. Beautiful place if you can afford it. I spent three months in Portugal on the beach for much less than this. Still following and still love the content.
We are going there for a week in January, arriving Jan. 6th. Is there some place to go meet expats? English library like in Oaxaca or another place? Thanks for any advice.
Your best bet is to look online for expat groups, maybe check Facebook. There is a large community of expats, so should be pretty easy, I would imagine. Happy Holidays!
It’s hot all year around and so dang hot through the summer. It’s the perfect time now. But doesn’t last. Your in retirement destinations home!! I plan to stay at her place! I recognized the home.
You have lucked out on your accommodations in Mexico but I KNOW that there was plenty of research done by Carrie to make this the case. Still there is always an element of uncertainty before you arrive and what the amenities that are included in your place. Well done. It makes such a difference especially for longer stays. I am pleased that Mexico has worked out so well for you, despite being inland for much of the time. Merida looks close enough to the beach to have a beach day as a day trip. Having been to cenotes before and also Chichen Itza they were both worth the money and time. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you both. Cheers!
Curious, who do you use for health coverage when you go back to the states? I live abroad and have used safety wing when traveling to other places but they will not cover US citizens traveling back to the US.
Hi Brian & Carrie, I have watched you from the start. I Know you mentioned Safety Wing for health insurance but do you get any type of trip coverage? We are in Mazatlan right now & are contemplating a longer visit throughout Mexico next year. Allianz includes trip coverage with health, insurance but it's costly. Happy travels in 2025 & Merry Christmas.
Hi! SafetyWing is a travel insurance, so does have a level of trip insurance as well. It's medical coverage is intended more for medical emergencies that may come up, not long term care. Cigna Global was the other coverage that we used to use and was happy with, but it's more of a true medical plan.
Would love to have your view on vaccinations you got for traveling in places like south east Asia and how you protected yourself from mosquito borne diseases like dengue, malaria etc. I'm scared to travel over there because of these issues and would love some peace of mind
When we received our shots, the pharmacist gave us recommendations on what we needed and what was not needed. Malaria and Dengue are only required if you are traveling into jungle territory. We did get our Hep A and B shots.
The pretty street with all the high end restaurants and shops is Calle 47 ☺️ With that said, San Miguel de Allende is a whole city like that, rather than just a block of 2.
I stayed at a former Hacienda that had its own cenote. That was pretty nice. It’s a good option if people rent a car. Does your health insurance cover preventive care?
Yes, a car would be great to give you the freedom to explore so much more. Our health insurance we have at home does have preventative care but the travel insurance we cover does not. We used to have Cigna Global and adding on preventative was an option.
Hi guys! Can you share what your staple items you purchase when you arrive? Like food supplies and/or house supplies? Id imagine yours not traveling with your own ketchup/mustard/butter/etc? 😆 Go hawks!💙💚
We get eggs, coffee, olive oil, some kind of meat and if we need salt, we will get that as well. We will hit a farmers market the next day for fruit and veggies. We usually don't get condiments. The Hawks need to get it going!!!
And if you have BCBS Medicare out of Florida, supplemental, they will cover you for emergency medical expenses, including hospitalization, but not emergency flights back.
Brian and Carrie, Excellent and informative video! While you didnt get into specifics, you still provided an excellent overview of Centro Merida's vibe. As a solo male aka "hoboNomad", I seek accommodations that are affordable to local guests. I reason the more money I spend on accommodations, the less money I have for dining and tourism. When I came to Mérida, Yucatán, México this past spring it was because I read that Mérida is the "second safest city in NORTH AMERICA". Quebec, Canada being the safest. In my experience it is very safe. And, that Mérida, Yucatán is HOT! For the first three weeks I was in Centro Merida, the daytime temperature never dropped below 41c/105f. But, it is manageable. After three, plus months in Centro Merida, Yucatán, I discovered that there is so much more to Centro Mérida, Yucatán, México than just safety and the formidable Yucatán sun. A LOT MORE!!! Moreover, while Centro Mérida Yucatán has tourism. Hi guys love your content and video. However because my hubby and I are Canadian and we have visited Mérida often. Please try to pronounce the areas better. Why, as it can be confusing for people looking for an area you suggest if English is not their first language. Paseo de Montejo for example, but you kept saying Montego. Also cenote is pronounced Ce- no-te, not ce-note. Just my suggestions, but great content keep it coming. Cheers to you both in 2025! 🎉
