    The difference between hobby and toy grade is the ability to get replacement, repair and upgrade parts for your "toy", regardless of the hobby. Based on that logic, if you can't get parts, its a toy. Therefore, FLY cars are all toys as well as you can't get parts for them. Both Scalextric and Carrera need to make a lot more parts available to be considered "hobby grade". Like all hobbies, slot cars has its level of snobbery over brands and magnets or not. Such a shame that people just can't enjoy the hobby and stop trying to divide things into hobby grade, toy grade, magnet cars, non magnet cars, etc. etc.

      The issue is the adult hobbyist is not going to buy anything with a "toy" label. It seems the community also agrees with me that large scale slot cars shouldn't be branded as such.

  • @Iamadrummer
    @Iamadrummer Месяц назад +2

    1:24 and 1:32 scale may be considered hobby grade and more geared for adults, but plenty of adults do collect and race 1:64 scale. The Carrera Go sets are geared as a first "toy" set for kids, yet plenty of adults have them and collect and race 1:43 scale. The Carrera Disney Go is also geared for kids, and I do not know many adults who race those or collect those cars. I personally went with the 1:43 scale as the cars are a bit better than 1:64 scale, and the track is not as large as 1:32 or 1:24 scale and does not take up much more room than 1:64 scale track. When I was a young kid, I used to have a Tyco HO scale set that was fun for many years until one of the trigger guns smoked and burned out. I know 1:43 scale is getting more popular for the hobbiest, but I do not really understand why 1:64 scale is still more popular. You do mention that big slot car channels are ruining the hobby as they say they are toy racing sets and do not try to sell the slot car kits as a hobby. I watch many channels on and about slot cars, and they are in it as a hobbiest and teach you about what a great hobby it is. They do not really refer to slot cars or slot car sets as toys. I do not think any channel is ruining slot cars as a hobby, but actually promote it. Also, from watching many channels on slot cars, they all, for the most part, say that the hobby is getting bigger. In the 1980s, slot car racing was a huge fad, and there were large public tracks all over. Sadly, the fad died off some, and most public and club tracks went away. From what I have seen and watched, public and club tracks are making a comeback, and more adults are getting into it as a hobby. The one thing I will agee with you is if they advertise slot cars as a hobby rather than a kids race set it would help to grow the hobby bigger. Also, there are not even a lot of commercials or advertisements for slot cars and sets. I remember as a kid, I used to see all kinds of slot car commercials and ads for them, and now I really do not see any. If you want to grow slot cars as a hobby, there needs to be more commercials and ads for them showing how much fun they are and can be as a hobby rather than a kids' toy. It would be nice to see slot car racing as a hobby get much bigger and not just a small niche in the world of hobbies.

      While I can see you don't agree with me on everything it was nice to read your comment. It would take a lot to bring slot cars back into the mainstream. Hopefully they send product to up and coming influencers and hope they get lucky.

    Hobby grade does not equal performance, period. Tamiya RC cars are slow and antique compared to modern rc cars, but I would consider a Tamiya rc kit being more into the hobby than buying a ready to run traxxas or Arrma. Same for Slot cars

    How many people can afford brand new Carrara Slot car sets at 300.00 a set
    Not to mention the cars themselves go for 50.00
    😅

    • @Sundayslotcars
      @Sundayslotcars  Месяц назад

      The sets are good forever as long as you take care of them. That's what makes them worth the cost. Unlike cell phones which are much more expensive and only last like 4 years. My current phone 's charging connector is starting to bite the bullet and I can tell you from experience it's not worth getting a sealed phone fixed.

      I think there are many ranges of options and prices when it is related to slot. For someone who is starting or who is deciding to start, I feel the hobby seems cool but it is hard to decide too. I know each person can decide what they want to buy, but I have the feeling some channels show things so complicated or overwhelming that I feel some sort of rejection and I do not watch them, and yes, this is damaging the hobby. To keep the hooby growing, things need to be shown accessible in every aspect (brands, prices, design, accessories, etx).Showing many brands is bad too. I think Carrera is a good way to start in 132 because you have everything easy in one "place". My only complaint is the size if you want 132 only and the analog/digital switch. Pricewise is correct. After you decide how you grow with the hobby.

    The title is clickbaite Billy. Any product that can be bought at a shop in a toy section is a toy including 1/32 or 1/24. Hobby doesn't really mean anything unless you put context behind it. When people talk about hobby cars then it is likely they are talking about competitive cars ran at clubs or collected by people looking for more performance over mass produced toys. Carrera is a toy, they have age specific sets relating to younger or older children teenagers or adults. I don't see any large channels killing the hobby.

    • @Sundayslotcars
      @Sundayslotcars  Месяц назад +2

      If a title is click bait RUclips tells us. I never said slot cars weren't toys. I said people shouldn't be classifying 1/32 and above as toy grade. It's just bad marketing. If you want to die on that hill go ahead but it won't expand the hobby.

    • @SlotCar2021
      @SlotCar2021 Месяц назад

      @@SundayslotcarsI kind of see where your coming from. Scalextric and Carrera do have really high detail cars at 1/32, they are more toy grade in terms of build quality not who buys them. The smaller scales are the scales more focused on children. I feel though that children moving up from smaller scales will still get the Carrera or Scalextric before moving up.
