Been playing clawhammer for a couple of years now. Once you get it (and it does take practice) it really is a most satisfying way to play the uke. You explained the technique really well. The Duke banjolele sounds fantastic.
Thanks for the lesson. That was a great explanation and I can't wait to try it out. I bought a banjolele a couple years ago, but never really got into playing it. This sounds like an awesome time to pick it up again.
Advanced clawhammer is when the brush stroke ends with the thumb "cocked" on the drone string, so that the next move is to just pull the thumb off, automatically ringing it, "ty". Then there's the addition of drop thumb to get a "bum-a-dit-ty"... It's not actually a separate motion of the thumb...takes practice but a review of banjo techniques will make that clear. This video shows more like the "Pete Seeger", stroke....all good, thanks!!!
Thank you for covering this. I love clawhammer and really want to understand it better. I'm seeing Phil Doleman at Southern Ukulele Store in July. Can't wait 😊
I don't know if you take music requests, but I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on tis autumn from the show sanford and son, that it can be played more fast and up beat in a similar fashion?
Thanks for the video. When issues for getting a clear sound for 2º and 3rd string, is it a matter of longer nail or the type of ukulele strings ? I suppose that with a banjolele the sound will be nicer but I see from Aaron Keim's videos that with an ukulele is also possible to get a decent sound. What do you think?
The claw hammer should be a whole series. Its the best way to play ukulele

You are a great teacher
I play clawhammer banjo as well as the uke, and this is a very good explanation.😊

Are you? Maybe I should head down to Bournemouth and check it out myself - my parents live just around the corner from Southern Uke Store!
@@TheUkuleleTeacher would be great to meet you! It's on Sat 8th July.
@@TheUkuleleTeacher I'm glad my parents don't live round the corner. I'd be penniless! 🤣
