UnBoxing A PRS SE Swamp Ash Special

- Last year I bought two SE model Guitars from PRS, a DGT and a McCarty 594. I really like both of those guitars. So, I'm starting this year off right by unboxing my newest, a Swamp Ash Special coming from way out in the northwest. I hope it made it cross-country ok.

the birds, especially abalone, would be my pick on all PRS if there was a choice. and you certainly got a special top on that one as well!

Looks great, I got sc custom love it,neck is great for easy playing,got a silver sky ,not crazy about it at all,all ready switched some pickup,kinda has a bad fender neck, looks like you scored, glad ta see ya!!!😊

I really think this is one worth saving up for. I haven't decided yet how it compares to the Se DGT, but it is certainly a really nice guitar.

No I didn't hate this video. Congrats on your NGD purchase! I also bought an 'Iri Blue' (call it teal) SE SAS. Soon as I saw my local shop had exactly one teal one in stock, with the 20% off factory sale I figured they would run out fast so I went down and got the teal one right away, well after playing it of course. Then within days every store around Vancouver was back ordered way out in 2024 for the teal ones. I was hoping for switching similar to my old bolt on PRS EG-2 HSH I had in the 1990s. But the switching on these is not conventional at all, so I just go by what tones I want and forget about what coils are engaged since it's too confusing for my old brain. And really the tones are quite useable as is, the new AS-01 single is very nice. But I'm sure there'll be lots of mods to get the pups more conventionally switched. Oh and mine is heavy, over 9lbs and this seems pretty common, though I've read of 7lb ones too.
Mine comes in at 8.05 lbs.

I also bought the swamp ash special SE, and I'm really enjoying it. I have one drawback. I really like low action, about .04 or .05 in on the high E string. I found the saddle on that string is already decked to the bridge, and cant be lowered any more. The neck relief is near perfect, so I don't want to mess with that. The action is coming in aroung .07, so it's not so bad. Nonetheless, it's a great guitar. I'll deal with action.
I have this issue with my DGT.
Got oodles of thread to work with on my swamp ash, but DGT is at rock bottom.

Congrats on the NGD Mike!! You got a nice, quite Sassy Swamp Ash guitar there. Did you get to pick the pattern or was it just the luck of the draw? Can't wait to get your impressions after you've had some time with it.
A shop in Washington State had it on Reverb. I was able to see photos of it.

I was super torn between this and the se 594 with those sale prices. I ended up going with the 594 and I’m super happy with it. Hoping to snag one of these in a few months.

The guitar sounds great and I really like the color. Swamp ash guitars are gradually becoming a rarity these days. Even regular ash is quickly becoming unavailable due to the emerald ash borer.
Sadly, players are going g to have to get used to newer types of wood. I'll leave the "does tonewood really matter" debate to someone else. Meanwhile, I'm reallydigging this guitar. The SE line hasn't let me down yet.

I’d definitely be bothered if I bought a new guitar but it was not in the original box. That makes me wonder how “new” it is.
Absolutely, It is true that if it hasn't been sold before, it can be sold as new. the reality is, however, that what you are buying is a floor/demo. Maybe i'm too picky, but i would prefer if that this be disclosed up front.
