Thank you for this video. Pump finally gave up the ghost this morning before work. Took my grubby self off the work and tracked down a Davey capacitor for $69. Saved me $1010 that I would have otherwise spent. Most useful practical YT vid I have ever watched. Will replace the pressure control as it leaks a little. Turns out the previous capacitor was an ICAR so already changed once. Thanks again.😅
I have a DAB pump that was affected by the latest flooding. I had moved it up higher a few years ago due to it being flooded from being in a bit of a depression. . The recent flooding was so bad a river of water had formed in a new area and the water and debris had cascaded into the fan causing it to stop intermittently . This being my second issue with the pump not being correctly isolated from potential problems I would encourage anyone with a pump that is supplying your house water to make sure it can ,almost, never be affected . I appreciate you taking the time to explain what the parts of the pump are. It makes me confident to give it a good clean out. Cheers Mate. 🤠
Bought a new X201, wanted to replace the short lead with a 10m lead, but for the life of me couldn't workout how the end plastic cover came off. Just one screw and it wouldn't bug, even tried lightly tapping it with a block of wood and hammer. Cheers on the video @ 11:16 you came through to show me how, cheers again.
Thanks for the video. With your guidance I battled my way through replacing the capacitor but also had to free up a sticky impeller shaft but seems to working fine now.
Awesome video. I thought I had an issue with my rainbank (it was lighting up green but still using mains water) but after watching this and taking a closer look at the pump I realised the pump itself wasn't actually starting. $12.54 and one capacitor later its working again. Of note, mine was actually a 12uF capacitor. Jaycar stock the 20uF but only have the 12uF in a different (box rather than cylinder) form factor, but I was able to get one from Haymans electrical without any issues. Interestingly I found at least one pool shop online selling the same 20uF capacitor for $55.
Be wary that often the different capacitors serve a slightly different function. Some are a start cap, and some are run caps. Thanks for the comment! Glad I could help and that you got back up and running. 👍👍
I have an el cheapo Giantz pump which stopped working. Although somewaht different to the Davey, the video (with a bit of side advice from Bob) led to fixing the problem. Many thanks
Cracking video thanks, mine was an Ecotronic but almost identical. Plumber told me pump would have to be replaced, turns out having seen the video and checked it was only an €18 capacitor which had failed. Thank you
That was really good. Simple and clear instructions. Thankyou very much. I feel more confident in trying to fix mine. Or at least see what’s wrong with it.
Hi, Thanks, great vid covering start cap testing. Any recommendations on pressure switch suppliers for these pumps? I have a Davey with a failing 104d PS, the Davey price for them is well north of $100...
Hi, I have an XP700 at home and am looking for the right sized generator to run it in case of power outages. I understand the generator has to be big enough to start the pump. Greatly appreciate your advice. Thanks.
G'day! Most of them have a threaded brass inset that screws on to the shaft of the motor. RH thread from my experience, though I can't speak for all of them. :)
@@thehilltopworkshop Appreciate the reply mate. I'll give it a go. Looks fiddly and difficult to get a good grasp on it. Is there a worthy method to try?
Hey mate, i have the 350p, second hand. Someone (me) messed with the pressure switch screws. Just wondering if you know the stock turns to reset it to factory? :)
Thanks for the video. After you changed the capacitor on yours, the humming sounds like mine at the moment. But it doesn't pump. What could be the problem?
Had this exact issue on my propperty. Drove to the nearest town and picked up a new capacitor and away it went! A lot cheaper then a new pump thats for sure.
Hi. I have a Davey Pump not unlike what you have. It does the hum and after a while the motor runs. I figure it would be a similar issue like what you highlighted. I replaced the capacitor with another ICAR 8uF (but plastic like what you showed). On replacing it, the motor just hums but will not turn over. I replaced the original and it turned over but over the course of a few days, it started doing the hum and may / may not decide to turn over behaviour again. Just wondering if I can replace it with a 10uF or 12uF capacitor ? I'm awaiting the delivery of a multimeter that can measure capacitance so I can work out if anything is wrong with the capcitor.
Hard to say without seeing it, but if it doesn't improve after replacing the cap with an exact unit asspecified, then there may be something else wrong with it.
I have this pump and it turns over and was working fine. But I think it needs to be reprimed. Do I just take the air pressure bottle off the top and pour water in?
You can do that, but it should prime itself fairly easily depending on your supply side. If you have a fair amount of head from the tank to the pump, it may cause issues.
Hello does it matter the capacity wires go on? There are no markings on the terminals. I have just brought a new one which does not have any yellow covers on the terminals which is the same as the one you have replace with your old one. My old capicity one is the same as what you removed, it only has a blue and brown wire to connect to the capacity. Cheers
My davies pump every few days doesnt want to run although the power light is on so it should be-running, unplug for a bit then plug it back in and it starts up again, I,m thinking it could be the capacitor but i dont know
I have a davey watermate pump. It's old and just 4 days ago the pump doesn't stop, it keeps on running until I switch off the power. How can I fix it. Need your help.🙏
That sounds like a faulty pressure switch. Once it reaches the set pressure, it should cut the power, and not start again until it reaches the lower threshold.
Hi mate, I have a solar Davey pump. It has just started playing up. Each time I turn the Tao on,I need to go to the pump and pull the power switch on the top of the pump for a few seconds to get it to start up. There is no pressure leaks anywhere in the in or out pipework. Any ideas ? Maybe the one way valve inside the pump could be stuck open ?
If that compaster is bust would that trip your power box? I think my pumps cooked wacked some wd40 in the dog cuz it got some water in and around it when we flooded now troubleshooting to save it 😂
After buying a new pump pull it apart and re-assemble it with anti-seize on every fastener you lay your eyes on (Including the impeller thread or shaft and keyway). Without it you'll try to replace the mechanical seal 10 years down the track and you won't be able to get the impeller off. That's assuming you'll also be able to get the cover screws off to see the impeller.
Hi, is the motor able to be rebuilt? I have a Davey XB200 and need to replace the motor bearings and can’t see how the motor comes apart, any help would be appreciated.
I got this cap through Edington Agencies in Coorparoo. This particular pump required a 12 microfarad, 450vac capacitor, but yours may be different. Hope this helps.
Could this be why my davey 500xp pump keeps tripping my house meter?? If I hold the yellow button in it wont trip but as soon as I let it go the house meter trips.
Mate what is the problem when davey pump wont start but just a moment before its work but after they fix it or changed sumn,it wont start, what is the problem
I couldn't call myself a multimeter enthusiast if I didn't ask for a closer look at your meter. Also, I'm sure everyone would appreciate a purchase link to the those "chrome finished impact sockets" hahahaha!

Most likely would be, but the internal windings may be worth checking as well. 👍

What is the yellow tank for, on the top
They can help to stop water hammer and can also help as a pressurised storage for pumps that have to cycle a lot.
