100% target language is the only way. I use google translate as a blackboard teaching ESL, so they can have a rough translation on the right hand side, if they need it. But I get them to focus on the left hand side.

Great video dude, I'm a fan of yours from Canada, the wealth of information that you're providing on Irish phonetics is invaluable to me and to many others, thank you for that. This video is actually pretty great advice on learning any language at all, not just Irish.

You've earned yourself a cold pint of beer, my friend, or of Spanish wine, whenever you wish to call by.

    Hello patchy,
Can you teach the donegal dialect? If not, is there a teacher who teaches like yourself that does?
    Thanks!

Yes indeed, I speak and teach Donegal Gaelic, no problem.
I do know of people who claim to teach it, but I don't know of any of them who also happen to speak it correctly.

Vey clever, you are not learning, you are actually acquiring the language, in 1000 hours you will speak that target language very well.

Tuigim d'argoint ach níl me ró-chinnte an aontaim go hiomlán.
Níl an cás ag an Ghaeilg mar an gcearna le, mar shampla Spáinnis, Gearmáinis ⁊rl. Ní thig linn bogadh go dtí an tír gan Béarla (Tír na nÓg? lol) agus bheith inár gcónaí fríd mheán na Gaeilg go hiomlán. Thig liom bheith i mo chónaí sa Ghaeltacht, ach níl obair no rudaí eile ansin liomsa. Agus, ní mhaith liom bheith ró-dhiultach ach tá na gaeltachtaí ag saothrú báis, ar an drochuair. Maidir leis an chuid is mó den daoine in Éirinn, níl aithne acu le cainteoiri dúchasacha.
Mar seo, nuair a thosaigh mé ag ath-fhoghlaim an teanga (rinn mé giota beag sa scoil), chuaigh me go dtí na pobail ar líne agus ansin, tá sé i bhfad níos fusa bheith ag caint i dteacs. Bím ag caint le daoine eile fríd mheán "voice chats" ach ta an teacs "asynchronous" mar a déarfá i "dteicneolaíocht-bhéarla". Tá sin iontach áisiúil i gcomórtas le comhrá aghaidh le haghaidh nó ar an ghuthán.
Tá an ceart agat is féidir linn úsáid a bhaint as italki ⁊rl, ach níl múinteoirí den chead scoth ag gach canúint agus tá a lán daoine le drochfhuaimeanna acu ag múineadh an teanga fosta. Chomh maith leis sin, níl tú "immersed" le rang amháin.
Níl mo chuid fuaimeanna foirfe mar gheall ar sin ach thig liom feabhas a chur orthu, agus bhí an bealach sin praiticiúil liomsa.
I mbeagán focail, bíonn daoine ag foghlaim an teanga gan fuaim mar tá sé sin i bhfad níos fusa.
I mo chás féin, bainim úsáid as na taifeadtaí ar teanglann, fuaimeanna.ie, abair.ie (intlecht shaorga), raidió na gaeltachta (i bhfad níos fearr na stáisiúin eile). Bím ag insint fúthu le daoine eile go minic.

I'd rather travel to Ireland for total immersion so I can learn Gaeilge. If I had to pick a dialect, I suppose it would be Munster since my great great grandfather was from Cork. I appreciate your videos. Go raibh maith agat.
