This is what we seniors called “blue eyed soul” back in our day.
Remember, this was 1965. No auto tunes. Live performance. This song was written in 1955 for a movie "Unchained". It has been recorded by hundreds of artists but NOBODY could sing it like Bobby Hatfield. It will always and forever be his song. Bobby passed away in 2003. Just weeks after The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. RIP Bobby.
That guy who stood up and said "That's righteous brother" was a black Marine on a base. See, why we all need one another.
Amen
Hundreds of singers have done this song but none better than Bobby Hatfield. The studio version used in the film 'Ghost' was great but this live version was stupendous. No auto tune or gimmicks just pure talent. He had a cold, his mother was in the audience watching him sing professionally for the first time and he suffered with stage fright.
This song was written in 1955 for the prison movie 'Unchained' it's been covered hundreds of times by hundreds of different artists but this one by Bobby Hatfield is considered the best. Bobby had a remarkable three and a half octave range (B2 to Eb6). His ability to sing that high without using falsetto means he was a counter tenor ...a very rare type of singer. His partner Bill Medley is a bass baritone, just as rare but at the opposite end of the scale - they both did outstanding solos but could combine their voices with amazing harmony.
When Bobby sings, it's like an angel dropped down to serenade you!
Bobby Hatfield: a voice sent from heaven for all of us to hear.
This is his song!!!! Lots of people covered it over the years but nobody sang it like Bobby!!!!!
You definitely need to listen to “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling “ by these guys.
That little smile was for his mum watching him smash those cords out of the park, it was there original
Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. Sadly we lost Bobby Hatfield about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Home Free recently did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown also did a very beautiful tribute of this song about a couple of years ago.
Bobby's voice was like silk on skin...they will give you chills. Incredible.
I think you can already appreciate what an amazing vocal range he has. Also want to add for perspective that Andy Williams, the host here, was also a very popular singer. His song Moon River was extremely popular
OMG my favorite brother! He has a voice that is incredible. I was in high school when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965! He owns this song and no one sang it like he did. Pure raw talent! Listen to him sing Summertime! He'll blow you away! RIP Bobby! ❤❤❤
This song is soft, smooth and sweet, taking me back to old school memories. You enjoying the reaction
And Bobby Hatfield has the best voice I've ever heard.
He bit his lip in the end…he knew he had nailed it!
Welcome to the world I grew up in Chris. One of the greatest live performances of all time.
Bobby had a head cold and still nailed it. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages. Bobby by far the best version in my opinion.
I can imagine a soldier in Vietnam 1965 writing these words to his girlfriend back home.
Listen to " What'd I Say" on this show Andy Williams. They never miss. Try "You've Lost That Loving Feeling " both of them sing. And if was the most listened to song of the 20th Century. Love me some Righteous Brothers 🥰
Try "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers
His studio recording was used in the movie Ghost. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. Whoopi Goldberg won an Oscar for her role in it.
I was 14 im 1965 when this show aired on TV. I am 72 now. Yes quite a whole before your time.
You should really see him do Summertime!
Is it just me or is his sound very low?
Bobby Hatfield had one of the rarest voice ranges in music. He was a countertenor which means he could sing notes that usually only a female soprano could sing and he did it easily.
And remember this was live back in1965.
This was1965. 5he song was first in an old black and white movie, then The Platters covered it. Years later Bobby picked it up, and no one made a hit from it since.
Please
Summertime by Bobby Hatfield of the righteous brothers
Its crazy😎😎
This is the finest if the finest
Just fyi. Most reactors do not talk over the song. They usually stop 2 or 3 times to beat the copyright.
But I am glad you're enjoying this!!
This was during the Vietnam war. The song was very popular with soldiers. The Righteous Brothers were the first concert I saw nearly 60 years ago. Loved them then, love them now.❤ Listen to them sing I Just Want To Make Love To You and Bobby singing Summertime.
Thank you from England fir your reaction we bless you.
Bobby Hatfield had a very rare voice called a counter tenor. Most men who had his voice throughout history were Italian opera singers centuries ago called castrati, meaning they had been castrated to preserve the voice. He had a 4 and a half to 5 octave vocal range and extremely good control, producing notes and changing between them as usually only classically trained opera singers can. He had no formal training. On top of everything else, he had a head cold that night of this live performance.
This is a live recording and he is a counter Tenor which is higher than a falsetto.
Bobby does a blow out of his talent in his solo "Summertime" check it out
Bobby owns this song, RIP Bobby. This is not the original, but it is the Best version.
Nice that you had the longer clip of the show. Apologies if someone else had said this: The song was from a 1955 movie called "Chained" about a chain gang prison. It was sung by a black opera singer named Todd Duncan (one of the prisoners) - it's on RUclips. The song won an Academy Award in 1955. For the 1955 versions, check out Roy Hamilton and Sam Cooke (on RUclips). But this version was the one that really took off. Bobby was the one that started singing "I need your love" up an octave.
If you want to hear them together their biggest hit song was "You've lost that Loving Feeling". Bill's voice is very deep. They're each wonderful solo but magic together.
Wait for it...
Listen to, “you’ve lost that loving feeling, “I just wanna make love to you, “you’ll never walk, alone, “and Bobby’s “summertime.”
Please turn the volume up.
This performance was in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. I think the song was written in 1955 or so.
This was when singers could actually sing. No autotune or other enhancements, including lip sync.
Check out their song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin".
Best to ever
Bill medley and the righteous brothers are considered to be in the top 10 of all times in vocals.
I’ve listened to over a 100 critiques and some, many Oprah singers who know high ranges said they never heard anything like it until you.
I don't care what you listen to but this is MORE THAN AMAZING!! NOBODY I mean NOBODY can sing solo like Bobby!! I was born in 64 just 1 years old at that time. UNREAL 👍👍👍
Just so you'll know now that you've reacted to this song...
Home Free did a beautiful cover of this song based on the original version, not necessarily this rendition. The original was from like 1955. It was written as a soundtrack for a movie called "Unchained" about a prisoner trying to figure out whether to attempt escaping prison or doing his time to go home to his family.
If you want to hear them both, try "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling." Ranked by BMI as radio's most requested and played song of the 20th century. There are 2 versions of "Lovin Feeling" on You Tube. The one that starts out blacked out, then a single spotlight is better. Bobby's version of "Unchained melody" was used as the background music for a love scene in the 1990 movie "Ghost." The public reaction was so great that the album was rereleased. It sold over a million copies in many different COUNTRIES. It was a hit in the'60s and again in the '90s. You might also try Bobby's solo of "Summertime." He really shows off his range in that one.
Their song I Just Wanna Make Love To You is some down and dirty blues. 🔥 🔥 🔥
Listen to Summertime
Just to let you know he's not using false Settle. He has four octaves it's very rare but he's got it
He and his brother agreed to each do a solo for their album, and this was his. He also suffered from stage fright.
I dare anyone to try to outdo him ❣️
Bobby sings this song alone .They both sing alone sometimes.
See what all the singers of today are missing? No auto tune either. Should be more like that. 😊
Back in the days when singers could sing...
Just keep an open mind and let the music carry you away...
I lost that loving feeling by the righteous Brothers
Top shelf brother.
RIP Bobby Hatfield .
Love your reaction! If nobody else has suggested it, have a listen to “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”
Do yourself a favor, play Steve Winwood. Roll with it. You want a surprise, There it is 😮
He has a very rare singing voice, counter tenor, that is why he can easily hit all those notes. No falsetto here, just talent!!!
Listen to their "you've lost that lovin' feeling"!!! They sing together!
The song was from a movie in 1956 about a man in prison hoping his girl friend would be there when he gets out.
This music I grew up on...
Very different style - more gritty - but there is another amazing Blue Eyed Soul performer you might want to check out - Paul Janeway with St. Paul and the Broken Bones. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed in his performance and that of the all the musicians who back him up
Hard to believe that you never heard of these guys before. You're pretty young. But these guys were at the top of the charts in the 60's. Unchained Melody is Bobby Hatfield doing the solo. Bill Medley also would do solo's like "Old Man River" and together they would do You've Lost that Loving Feeling. Maybe you've heard that before.
He had a cold that night and his mum was in the audience that night
They were on the Andy Williams Show on t.v.
The whole intro was based on humour it went right over your head , not even a flicker of acknowledgement
Bill is joking about the song not being a hit.
The song was from a movie called unchained made in 1955. It was recorded by (I think The Platters) before Bobby and Elvis after. I think Bobby does it best.
They were called the "white" soul brothers...
They were called blue-eyed soul.
Not hate just a suggestion. The stars etc are rather annoying
Add. Bobby Hatfield singin Summertime. Live.
you should hear Tom Jones version...it'll blow your mind also.....music then was at its peak....downhill since then
This is original dude
Let the music do the talk!! Watch the video!!!
I thought the volume was great. It sounds better than most on here, I think people are messing with you or something, Great video. And you should here the live version of Elvis Presley sing this song. They are both great.
I wouldnt trick you dude!!
You need to turn your broadcast volume up. I can hardly hear you with my volume up as high as it will go and I don't have to do that with any one else.
You need to REACT to yourself and quit pausing and saying that you liked the video. Check out the first comment, she was "spot on'.I loved your comment "is this a real song?' Give your listeners a break! They are smarter than you.
This guy says I really like this but I'm not sure if I will add this to my play list Really lol
Check out his cover of "Summertime" might just make your playlist
Listen to " I wanna make love to you" by these...Will blow your mind
You don’t need to talk
Who are you
Let’s just listen to the song
Next: You've lost that lovin' feeling !!
How haven't you heard that song? Are you from out of space?
Volume is too low for people who are hard of hearing, like me.
Bobby had a four octave range, his high notes aren’t falsetto
To much talking and pausing
poor reaction, let the artist sing !
Please don't be another one who talks instead of listens it's so annoying
If you want more subscribes, don't stop the song every ten seconds, so you can hear your own voice.
This is thire Song
You never smiled or reacted once to the banter at the beginning??? I must admit I find that odd, and you stopped it so many times within a minute, shame.
So, now react to both singing together... ruclips.net/video/P95_pCbCPZw/видео.html
Could you interrupt a little bit more, please? We don't really want to hear the song.
You might help your comments by doing a little research on the group and the song.
Sorry have to stop watching I tuned in to hear the singing
