      @@pixeldoesart1864 In a rage game all the mechanics are placed there to annoy the player, in a bad game they're usually a byproduct of the dev not caring enough to play test there game. A rage game is effectively a boss battle as a video game, you play it figure out the patterns and beat it through patience. Truth be told I think its impossible to set out to make a bad game, as a bad games usually turn out that way due to lack of passion for the project which isn't exactly something you can fake. I think if you did want to set out to make a bad game you'd probably want to put no effort into user friendliness and fill it with mechanics that don't work well/fit logically together.

      @@Brizzle427 Yes the worst games are just asset flips. Like download a unity first person shooter base, throw in other things you want that other people have made, do not do any coding whatsoever to fix things that don't combine well, put in zero effort to be creative. That's a bad game to me.

      I'd say making a bad game on purpose is pretty hard if not impossible, you'd most likely end up making a rage game

    Ideas for making the game even worse:
    1. Unusual controls. For example, use GCVB to move the character instead of using WASD
    2.Making a level that requires using new game mechanics without any tutorial at all
    3. Add annoying background music that loops forever
    4. Add a fake multiplayer gamemode that does nothing
    5. Sudden drop of frame rate for no reason
    6. Random pop-up ads
    7. Rick roll the players

      Music randomly turns off for a few seconds, restarts the loop, starts playing over itself, and enormously increases gain every once in a while. Which one of these effects occur is random.

    There are a few obvious omissions which could have made your game a lot worse.
    * Story: a terrible, unskippable story is always worse than no story.
    * Death: overly drawn-out unskippable death sequences with audio that genuinely hurts to listen to is always worse than a simple 'restart the level'
    * Loading screens: overly long, slow loading screens are a surefire way to ensure player frustration (especially if it's a fake loading screen which takes an inconsistent length of time and the progress bar (if present) is entirely inaccurate)
    * Visuals: needs to clash more. Needs a mishmash of premade assets and garish poorly drawn assets. Simple squares run the risk of looking tasteful.
    * Controls: randomly rebind them during gameplay, without the player having any clue about what button they now need to press.
    * Viewport scrolling: don't scroll with the player. Either don't scroll it at all, or scroll it such that it's rather delayed (player already offscreen) before overshooting (too far forward), or scroll it at random intervals, or keep constantly shaking it in random directions during gameplay to give the player motion sickness.
    * Closing the game: no escape button. The only escape the player has is by forcibly closing the game via task manager.
    * Audio (in general): needs to be incredibly obnoxious. Fingers scraping down blackboard accompanied by a choir of screaming babies. volume fluctuating randomly between very very quiet and incredibly loud. If you can handle more than 2 seconds of the audio, it's not bad enough. And don't forget obnoxious sound effects for everything in the level.
    * The Coins: okay so have you ever seen Sheriff Domestic? If yes, you can probably guess what I'm about to suggest. If not: pause the game, have an obnoxious 'you got a coin' fanfare thing appear, and then resume the game after the player sits through that (and doing it all over again for the next coin!)

      Agree everything except controls, but then thought could work if you had a 'double tap a key to rebind' function and the interval for what counts as a rebind changes every few seconds until it inevitably catches you out and the WASD turns into DXCV because you double tapped D. Like it's a useful function if it didn't have such potential to screw you over. Or just make any 2 presses of the same key in a row count as a double tap. Player could work around that but it would be annoying!
      Also the coins thing I've played the sonic mod similar where it freezes the screen when you collect a ring to play I think the life up sound as many times as you now have rings. It reaches unplayable very fast!

      @@kailomonkey I guess the issue with 'double-tap a key to rebind' would be getting the player to tap the other key in the first place. Of course, swapping around the existing bindings will potentially cause some intended player frustration and might make it playable using a controller, but having the possibility of the inputs being rebound to a button which isn't in use strikes me as having much more potential to frustrate the player.

      @@ParasocialCatgirl Agree. My vision was you'd be pressing right and you accidentally press it twice in a row, and it rebinds that key to up and moves all the other keys to the ones below it. It's not as annoying as it could be but as you say, getting other keys double clicked is an issue with the idea. I think it can work fine with joypads too. Admittedly the idea would take an actual lot of work to define where the other keys would go in relation to the one you accidentally rebind to up. On a gamepad it could rotate the dpad perhaps.
      The main difference between how the 'bad game' was made and how I think it could be more authentically bad rather than a rage game, is that this onw is programmed badness. Whereas I think games can be bad due to programming good things that don't combine well and never get addressed or even considered or even tested!

    you failed! why? you made the enemy red! thats too good game design!! you should take inspiration from this one flash game i played a while ago, where you were skydiving and had to dodge things. what did you have to dodge? planes? birds? no! clouds of course! there was literally zero visual indicator that would make your brain think thats what youre supposed to do. amazingly terrible game design.

      In high school a few friends and I pranked a dude who was quite obnoxious about being a tech expert and "real gamer" by making up a fake game called "Temple Rumours". We asked him if he had heard of it and he pretended he had. He spent a few days thinking the game was real and trying to get his hands on it. In the end one of us even made a fake hard copy with boxart and everything, but when the disc was inserted the message "pwned" (it was the 2000s ok?) popped up.
      So going by your standards Temple Rumours probably is the worst game ever.

    This is not a "bad game", it's just a troll game like Kaizo Mario tbh.
    A bad game should be consistent with its features but frustrating. I even can imagine The Last Of Us to be more frustrating than your game if the Devs would've just cut the entire game in the middle of the story, or if Tetris had blocks that do not fit, or a Simulation Game that starts with everything unlocked but you lose progress with every levelup, or just beeing super slow in a shooter.

    I love how when you're walking, you're on the extreme side of the screen where you want to go, making it impossible to know what's next, and only makes you see the parts you already passed through, which is useless. Very bad game 10/10.

    This is no where near terrible enough. Every part of this game could be made worse.
    Movement: Have noticeable 1 second delay between giving an input and it being acted on. Have small platforms that require precise controls, yet your player character is really slippery on top of them sometimes just not moving.
    Story:What's worse than no story? Having a story with wasted potential. Make an opening cutscene with a really cool story premise. Then never deliver on it. Or recon it in the most disappointing way possible once you beat the first level like that entire starting sequence was just a dream and now your going to school, then just stop having a story. Make sure the opening with significantly better graphics than the rest of the game, unskippable, and with a really slow text speed, with walls of text.
    Graphics: There's one major problem with your graphics. They aren't painful to look at. Make the graphics visually painful to look at. Be sure to have a bunch of background elements than blend in with the middle ground elements so you can't tell what's what. Make sure the player and enemies blend in with the background. If you aren't making Top Banana look like a masterpiece, your graphics aren't bad enough yet.
    Level design: Here's one neat trick to make terrible level design, don't. Start with a minute long walk on a plane of nothing, and make a really difficult and precise platforming section at the end. But other than that just make whatever seems cool at the time, and don't playtest or think too hard about it. In fact just add in a bunch of mechanics and never playtest them. If the game doesn't crash your good.
    Other: When you die have a long death jingle followed by it kicking you back to the menu screen. Where you have to watch the opening cutscene again. Have really long loading times for no reason. Make the music a loop of a sirren, then have an enemy that you have to listen for to dodge. Have all the sounds in the first level way louder than anything else in the game.

      @@jackatjack2886 Pretty much, except you've got to be careful with what glitches you leave in the game. If you leave in too many glitches that are interesting or fun, you might accidentally let a few people enjoy your game through the coolness of the glitches alone.

    Gravity is for good games. The jump should make you go up at a steady rate then fall at the same rate. Ever played a scratch platformer? Things can get a lot worse.

    You should make a game with too many controls like breathing and making your heart beat to survive.

    You should have added a sound option that didnt work, and a graphics option that would make the screen 10 different color blocks, optimize the game horribly, and have some of the coins reset the coin count, also you have to pay 15 cents for 10 seconds of game play

    A few suggestions to make it even worse:
    Make it so that the jump height and speed changes randomly occasionally
    Make a terrible annoying five second music loop throughout the entire thing
    have the very rare audio sometimes glitch out too in a multitude of ways like loudness, compression, etc
    Give the background and ground graphics worse quality by compressing them too
    Make the main characters arms and eyes misaligned with each other by just a few pixels, and well as the options on the main menu
    Use completely different terrible fonts for the main menu too
    And just have the player die randomly at times for no other reason

      I think he already has 'player die randomly' covered. Could have an arbitrary hidden timer that starts at a randomised time though, with a time out message. Also send to the main menu when this happens or on other deaths because a level resetting quickly actually makes any platformer accessible to keep retrying. Make the menu have annoying options to go through to even start the game. If you have a save system sending you straight to the level you've reached, have it clear your save and start from scratch if you click through the menues too fast.

    I once made a platformer where jumping against a block to the left would launch you in the air because of weird collision detection. I probably chose precise collision detection and the sprite jumped multiple times in a row. And at the end you'd get in a rocket and it fell through the ground because of a double negative vertical speed.

    how to make the worst game ever....
    take everything good; from every game you've ever played, mash them together with no rime or reason.
    release a part done, but functioning version to a bunch of youtubers to get excited about and begin to promote
    add one update that adds a ton of bugs, glitches and bad code, conflicting systems.
    put it on steam with the promise of fixing said game...
    then completely abandon the community with an 'I fixed it all up, don't worry, will be in unstable branch next week'
    but you will never release another update to any branch....
    You will carry on collecting the over priced amount you put on the game....
    you don't need to understand how to make a good game to make a bad one...
    every game is an experience. just give a bad experience

    For the coins, you could also require the player to pick up a specific amount to complete the level, so they can't just avoid them

    One more idea for the coins. Have the counter start at 26 and then count down for no clear reason. Have the coin counter remain through death or beating levels. If the counter reaches 0 and you collect another coin, the game crashes due to lack of code to handle overflowing/underflowing for the counter. It'll be like it was never expected to drop below zero, but the code is so broken that it inevitably does anyway.

    Idea : Every second, the game has a 1% chance of randomly “crashing” and your entire progress is reset. Even if you are in level 2, you go all the way back to the start of level 1! This would make the game 10 times worse lol

    the character looks too cute. To make it even worse, the face should be badly drawn in paint. Also make the hitbox a different size than the sprite

    I think there is atleast one more thing to do to make the chareter design even worse you need to add parts to it that don't even affect the game and all sorts of bad colors randomly put on it.

    1- Make it so the camera wont follow the character. Instead, there should be keys to move the scene. That'd be horrible.
    2- Add a game music which wont loop. Plays once and stops for rest of the game.
    3- Add stutters when the character just about to do a critical and hard jump.

    My worst game would be a taxi hailing simulator where you have to hail a taxi but most of the time they pass you, you have 1 frame to succeed. If you do you have to take the taxi to your pregnant wife in the hospital but there's tons of traffic and the taxi driver recites the entire bee movie script with no punctuation, and when you get there he drops you off before you realize you forgot something so you have to repeat the process to get back to where you started, then you navigate your house to figure out what you forgot but I don't give you any hints, then you have to do the taxi thing one more time to finish the game

    Also, in order to make the game worse, just make the graphics worse! So bad that you can barely tell what is what. Also, have a weapon that doesn’t do anything at all! Have unavoidable hazards, deceptive enemies, unpredictable weapons, delayed controls, crappy color schemes that look like vomit and crap, as well as levels that are repeats of other levels. Have more levels because the more levels, the worse that it gets.

    1. mobile touch controls that you have to operate with a mouse
    2. it's also inverted
    3. the jump button is as far away from the movement circle as possible
    4. the movement circle is actually a square
    5. when you move your character then stop moving, the circle doesn't go back in the middle, so you've got to drag it around the screen to move

    Imagine if this game had difficulty options; where easy is playable but with bad features, medium is sometimes playable and sometimes not, and hard being barely playable due to the intentional buggy mess and more bad stuff keep appearing out of nowhere; like that falling thru the ground and teleporting back to start for no reason.

    It would be worse if you made it that instead of the player moving, the whole entire ground and sky just moves.
    imagine playing smash bros and when you move your character, they stay still but they are still moving on the island

    I suggest making it worse by adding the credits to the starting screen, but it can't be clicked on and jumps away to a random spot when you try to click on it.

    I have gotten the best worst suggestions that everyone else suggested in my opinion.
    Coin Fanfare - Every time you get a coin, it plays a "You Got A Coin!" fanfare. You can't move during this.
    Unusual controls that the game tells you about, but makes it a pain to listen - Let me explain. The controls would be something like GCV(comma) instead of WASD. At the beginning of the game, it would tell you this but here's the thing: The volume changes drastically during the message so that you can barely hear the controls but everything else said is really loud. It'd sound like "*HELLO PLAYER!!!! YOUR CONTROLS ARE* ᵍ *FOR JUMPING*ᶜ *FOR GOING LEFT* ᵛ *FOR GOING DOWN??? AND* ᶜᵒᵐᵐᵃ *FOR GOING RIGHT!!!!!!*" This will force players to have to rapidly move the volume, most of the time failing.
    Janky controls - On the subject of controls, why not make it so that players can't jump and move left-right at the same time, meaning they can't go diagonal.
    Janky hitboxes - Enemy hitboxes would be bigger than they look and platform hitboxes would be bigger or smaller than they look.
    Annoying, loud BGM - After the controls are said by the voice with the annoying volume changes, BGM would play that is repetitive, annoying, and loud.
    New mechanic with no tutorial - In Level 2, there could be a new, unnecessarily complicated mechanic that isn't taught to the player.
    Holding controls - Just like the controls randomly stop, sometimes when you go left or jump, it will hold that control for several seconds. Because you also can't jump and move left-right at the same time, you wouldn't be able to move if the game held jumping like that. This is actually a glitch in Scratch that could get annoying sometimes, and it'd be "good" to have it in this game.

    This basically just feels like 1 out of every 15 Flash games ever made. It might be beneficial to revisit this concept, but be more specific in what you're trying to achieve. Most unsatisfying game, most frustrating game, etc.

    One good way to make the story worse is to have a big block of text on the screen of really shitty writing that you will need to take a full 45 seconds-1 minute to read which pops up before each level, but you also need to wait 2 minutes before you can close the text, and this text always shows up before a level starts.

    You should make a story game exactly like that but then the character glitched into a new game that looks better and it repeats until the character feels uncomfortable and then glitched again into a source code and after that the character moved into a phone (add a puzzle if you want) and then another character appears and make two of them confused and then they tried to solve a puzzle to go back to their own games while fake ads keep appearing to show a clue to solve the puzzle to end the game

    Ideas to make it worse
    1.you randomly die
    2. Your jump sometimes makes you go through the ground and die
    3.if you move in the first 10 secs of restarting or starting a new level you get rickrolled and die
    4.holes that if you fall in you can’t jump out
    5. Fake restart button in pause menu (but the quit is real)
    6. Really crappy backround like purple up orange next to it the green next to the orange 🤮
    7.if you tap the fake restart button the a amogus guy twerks :)
    8. The title should be unreadable like opsisiuejenwh on top :|
    9.a control menu that takes you out of the app
    10.the character should be a uu like a butt
    Well that’s crazy and enough

    If you wanna make a bad game, do these
    • make the whole thing completely unplayable (e.g. Janky Movement and physics, a good example of this is Hello Neighbor)
    • Make the quality the lowest png type quality, I'm talking watermarked png images as assets
    • Extension to the one at top, Make the background and foreground graphics mix, so it's hard to distinguish which objects you can collide with
    • If the game has enemies, make the hitbox Shit, as in, Make it big as frick
    • Make the Goal of the game as blurry and vauge as possible so the player doesnt know what they're supposed to be doing
    • Make the whole thing as Laggy as possible
    • What was that? Bugs and glitches? Naaaaah leave them be. What? The Players are using it to their advantage? aw hell nah, fix it
    And that's how you make the worse game possible
