    I saw other videos of the Fender thinline and it sounded like shit... so I began to think it was a shitty guitar and maybe not worth buying. Tunrs out, those other guys were just shitty guitar players with shitty amps and tones. This thing sounds fucking amazing in the right hands.

    That D minor chord at 5:39 - Heavenly.
    Every time I hear Phil X demo a type of guitar I don't own, I immediately start wanting one. DAMN YOU PHIL X!!!
    Seriously though, this thing sounds amazing. It does the humbucker thing and still has plenty of Fender clarity. Must be the old-school Wide Range pickups.

    • @BashYouLongtime
      @BashYouLongtime 10 лет назад +2

      That's just a Tele for you...clarity. The semi-hollow also helps it on that clean side, IMO, and taking out some of the unnecessary bass frequencies for electric guitar in a band mix---it's a mid range instrument, just add some highs and go!
      Semi-hollow with humbuckers gives you strong drive sounds, but still retains clarity, and still beautiful cleans---also at loud volumes allows for the magic feedback to come in faster. I think it's the most versatile guitar, period...

      @neils891 2 года назад

      I dropped the pole pieces out of the back of mine and slightly raised the ones on the front. It sounds even more oldschool now. I may add them back in on one of the pups-we’ll see. It’s a super versatile guitar.

    • @titanhasfreedus8059
      @titanhasfreedus8059 2 года назад +1

      @@neils891 i got one...i mostly play telecaster and i decided to buy the '72 thinline, natural finish too......mine is the classic vibe serie, alnico humbacker pickups, not the cunife.....oh god, the first day i played it i was dissapointed, it seemed to be an useless guitar, was about to give it back, but i finally kept it with me sayin' to myself "ok, it'll be my battle guitar"....so i was, day to day, knowin' more about the versatility, about its particular tone, its particular dynamic, its sound....jazz, gipsy jazz, raw delta blues sound (bridge pickup, awesome) funk, classic rock stuff, country......after one year i couldn't leave the guitar in its case....i tried 10's and 11's 'cause it brings 9's out of the box....it works fine with 10's (it's a bit harder than solid body teles to play, the strings become heavier in a 72 thinline, somethin' that i noticed) well, what i mean to say is that this guitar has to be the most underrated guitar ever......i think the reason why it is not much popular is because when you first play it is not what expected, you may find it useless and you don't get its magic touch....that's, at least, what happened to me.....i couldn't live without it nowadays.....a funny point about my thinline is that i changed to cunife pickups and after one month i put the alnico squier ones back on it....love it to the bone

But specifically about your playing, you have a great combination of pure technique and feel. Your improvisation is great, your note selection is tasteful and your solos are melodic, not just speed-wanking. It's the way I try to play every time I pick up the guitar. No memorized licks and showing off. Just pure fun and love for the music.

    Once you play WRHB's everything else (except maybe Filtertrons) just sounds dark and muddy... Seth Lover truly perfect the HB with the WRHB.
    FYI Phill, the reason the WRHB sounds so unique is that it has magnetic pole-pieces (made out of CuNiFe) instead of bar magnets like regular HB's and the wider/bigger sized pup has more magnetic field around the strings. You can almost get that Strat like "boing" and "ping" on the neck or Neck/bridge combo settings and messing with the tone knobs.

    You completely missed the point. Look at fender go to their website and look at the way they price their guitars now go to any website and look at the same, way cheaper. Its the same thing here. If they can sell a number of them in lump sum for a little cheaper they'll jump at the chance. Its just cheaper cause if they're sitting in a warehouse taking up space cause they can't sell them they're gonna knock down the price.

    Damn. Phil is getting difficult to watch. I'm not sure what is acting and what's real, but for the love of Pete, let's get on with it already. So much studdering and gum smacking and childish laughter that I lose interest quick. Yes, very talented. But the "space cadet" routine is wearing thin. I know I am going to get blasted by all the Phil X lovers, but I don't give a shit anymore. I know most think it, but don't want to say it.

I wouldn't care about the way he looks if I liked the way he plays guitar - (I'm sure he is probably a nice person) it's just that image doesn't help. Just my personal opinion. Rock n roll, to me, is a voice for the oppressed, he looks like an oppressor in my view.

    Phil annoys me sometimes with his lack of knowledge about the instrument he’s playing. He has that “I don’t know how or why my hands and fingers can do what they do!” Like he started playing after a heavenly gift was bestowed upon him and it didn’t take years and years of hard work. He missed his time for rock n roll when the 80’s passed him by. Honestly I’m sure Phil is a sweet guy and he seems to be that way it would just be nicer if he could explain things a little more clear and stay focused. He’s the type of guy you could have a serious religious or political discussion with one second and the next he’s off chasing a butterfly. Either way God blesses him with a great ability to play and he’s doing just that by sharing it with as many as possible but kids if you’re reading this after watching Phil just remember, don’t do drugs. If you do, do drugs then please only in moderation and save at least half of your brain
