Whoever added the station captions has a sense of humour. “Penriff!”
Had to reward everyone for sitting through 90 minutes of train vision!
@@TransportForNSW Was it that long.
If this the actual public authority making these videos, thank you for making these available. Cab ride videos have become a serious thing now, and they really are a great way to see parts of the world in a way that not many people do 👍
This was cool to watch! I love the iconic whistling sound the V set makes when leaving the station.
Glad you enjoyed it!
V sets are cool
They sound sweet! Both the Camshaft and Chopper Control
Is that what those big silver 2- storey trains are called? I am quite nostalgic for them now - I used to travel Sydney to Newcastle frequently on them (and once to the Blue Mountains!) in the late 80s and early 90s. Would this be the same kind of train, or have they been updated? Looks the same to me. I live in Melbourne now, we don't have trains like this, they're so cool! Nice video! ✌😁
The v sets external have remained the same. Interior has obviously been through some improvements. And they still run the Newcastle and Blue Mountains lines. There are in the process of getting new trains to run these lines but have run into problems with clearances with the tunnels alone the Blue Mountains line.
Thankyou...
I don't usually leave comments on vids, but I just wanted to say thankyou. I've been waiting for years to watch these videos.
My uncle drove the XPT while I was growing up, and I would always get to set up the front with him.
These videos bring back so many fond memories.
👍 🚂🚃🚃🚃
You're very welcome!
What a beautiful morning as the train is leaving the yard at Mt Vic.
Blue and pink sky's.
The view of the Kanimbla Valley between Mt Vic station and Blackheath station
is spectacular and something you just cant see from the angle of the camera
in this clip. Viewers would have loved that.
Ive lived in the Blue Mts for over 40 years and infact, my father was a goods
train driver and also did runs between Lithgow and Enfield. I went with him
a couple of times as a small boy but im going back to the late 70's when
that happened. My guess would have been 42 class loco's ??
I remember going on a 46 class way back then with him and the sound
of the pantograph going up to touch the overheads was so cool by itself.
Arhhh Trains have changed a lot since then.
2 thumbs up for the vid clips.
Very impressive rail cut into a solid rock. Thanks
Really enjoyed the video, stations are beautiful and clean ... love the shrubbery and bushes.
Glad you enjoyed!
Amazing Video
Perfect background for long WFH couch sessions. Thanks
I’m in Canterbury Bankstown LGA lock-down so this was a pleasant way to get out of it. Thanks for that.
All the train station signs are orange now from when I was there 5 years ago. I always enjoy going over the Blue Mountains by train out to Orange from Sydney. Thanks for this. It brings back happy memories of bobbing along over the mountains. Always fun.
Back again.
I was just thinking,
"How about a train ride from Lithgow to Mt Vic so we can experience the tunnels??
Great video
Love this! Although, it makes me miss living in Sydney...
keep it up it is grate.
Penriff!!
Thanks . Have watched a few Brit ones on trips into London. Their trains have a buzzer thing that sounds about every 30 secs, which might be a driver safety thing. And the other thing on British lines is the numbered signposts along the way ( speed limit ?). None on this line that I noticed.
Thanks for posting.
10/10!
Thank you for the video yes I drove that line for the last twenty years
Lucky man!
You should do a video of 5917/ picnic train on it’s run from central to Kiama
1:33:17 The fellow who typed in the station destinations, methinks his computer keyboard had a lisp! Penriff instead of Penrith! LOL
As a guard in the then New South Wales Government Railways I used to work goods trains to Lithgow from Enfield yard .A lot has changed but is still a nice ride
Cool!
Is there any chance of the XPT journey from Lithgow to Dubbo, or Dubbo to Lithgow..???
There is already plenty of video's around Sydney and outer suburbs.
I would love to see more regional/rural areas from the view of the train cab (realtime).
i miss the old road crossing in katoomba
1:30:27 That XPT that passed through Emu Plains may well have been Melbourne-bound.
I love the final station name - Penriff! Were you checking to see if I'd watch till the end?
Could you do something like Lithgow- Bathurst
1:13:39 We've had Wentworth Falls and Lawson, now Blaxland, completes the trio of explorers honoured in station(suburb) names.
Great video. Been watching many driver's eye view videos, lately (mostly from the UK and Switzerland). One observation - I've noticed not all signals are fitted with train stops. Is that common in the electrified network outside of the Sydney metro area?
Can you film this same trip on a snowy day?
If the stars align, absolutely!
mount victoria is close to ligthgow on the bathurst side of the blue mountains
17:25 He came to Medlow to have a Bath, but the tub was empty..... Awwwwwwwww gee!
Sutherland to Wollongong or Campbelltown to Bowral might be nice too
Definitely on the list :)
I didnt realise Mt Vic station was that big
Plus Blackheath is higher by 22 mtrs ASL and colder than Mt Vic.
This is great! T set right?
What's that Bell every time the train moves? Here in the USA, our commuter rails ring the bell when entering and departing the station. I'm wondering if that's what this is?
This is a signal from the train guard, indicating to the train driver is clear to proceed.
@@TransportForNSW Understandable, thanks!
@@233CFH A train guard in Australia is pretty much the equivalent of an American conductor, except our train guards usually don’t ever walk up and down the train, they just stay in the guard’s compartment.
Is Central to Newcastle Interchange on the list?
Gotta love that Chopper Control!
Indeed
I noticed new signalling work is happening at Mt Victoria. Is that part of the signalling box rationalisation program?
33:19 Wentworth Falls, but was too heavy to pick up again!
1:10:00 Must be a lot of cows at Warrimooooooooooooooooooo!
Lithgow-Springwood, is that on list?
Definitely! Working on that now.
@@TransportForNSW Wow, thanks!
Is this train called the Very Fast Train?
How many train stations does NSW have where the train is longer than the platform? That's nuts! :)
I can’t answer the question about the number of stations. But I can tell you that there are a few of them that I know on the southern line past Wagga Wagga. When travelling on the XPT, the train crew will announce that only certain doors will be open at such and such a station. You arrive at the station and look out, but there’s no platform!
I seem to remember that there are some stations on the line between the Hawkesbury River and Gosford which have short platforms. Other people are sure to have more information for you.
There are more than you would think and they are on every line. We even have platforms that only cater for one door ( front or rear) on any train. These one door platforms are usually request only which means you must inform the guard when wanting to alight and wave vigorously to the driver when wanting to board the train. Great for locals but confusing as hell for visitors.
