I just asked 3 o line experts Nfl, college and high school theyve called it a false step. It could be taught but its still a unnecessary step. A seal block would have a deeper step not a small one
interesting I asked a college and pro OL coach and a NFL player and they said it could be more of the coaching and what he is taught. They pointed out that the LT makes the same "step"
interesting how different people of the same level can have mixed comments seeing the same thing. Super cool to learn though from all avenues, keep up the great work.
At 18:48 I do agree with your points on that play. Im not out here just hating on your analysis haha
@@travisoshea nah this player is a good convo starter
@@VochLombardi for sure. I like the pick. He’s just raw and fans just have to be ready for some mistakes in some big spots and on some drive killers.
Giving up a sack on 2 and medium or a penalty on 3rd and 7-9.
Be patient because he can become a great player
@travisoshea and another thing on this steps why aren't they with more depth. I hate it
@@VochLombardi fair point. It could be a coaching and weekly gameplan thing. Maybe they wanted to down on the 2i and 3tech more because they see that the backers hit the A gap more. Which helps the G get to that gap and also helps the OT coming down.
It’s very hard to know for sure because we are not in the room with the coaches and players.
Not that I disagree with you on the depth point. If he was missing the backers because he’s getting stuck on the down block or the double then I’d be pretty concerned.
yall have an open invite to tell me where my analysis is wrong. The internet has been goofy since last night. If the player improves then good for them but the film is the film. If im wrong tell me where. Salute
Does he fit your win ugly criteria can be taught to win pretty??
@@ceejordan9649 nah whooping people with bad hands like Tyler Smith is winning ugly to me
@ceejordan9649 I do think he can improve though. I just don't like projects
@VochLombardi I get it, win now mode. I think this is the consequence of keeping Tyler at LG
What if we get Frazier in the second. Doesn’t it make sense for this to be the pick. Mostly because of where he was mocked. Do hate we missed on Barton though.
He's a HUGE BALL OF CLAY that a good coach can turn into a masterpiece.
Not a cowboys fan, he needs a lot of coaching, but Guyton has the ability to be special. Good pick.
I feel all right about the pick. The Nation needed this film session. Thank you Voch.
This is excellent analysis bravo
Excellent assessment!
The false step is taught, and actually impressive. It's about getting the angle on that false step
i agree. ive asked some professionals as well and they have said the same thing. you can also see the LT doing the same thing
I marinated on it after last night. If we get a decent center and he is the weakest link on the line, we can scheme his progress. If this is the case, I think we can manage with it. Trying to be optimistic.
There not drafting a center, bank on it
Hope so 🤞🏿
Got beebe
Beebe is that guy
bass can play guard and smith can play tackle if hes really that trash
I like the assessment a lot, my one point was that watching a second film, the “false step” is something that I think was taught since OU ran a primary RPO offense. The “false step” was used to help him set up his angle for both run blocking and pass blocking. Just some food for thought
i considered that and my only small push back is wouldnt his step be deeper to make sure the inside gap is closed, like why take such a small step
@@VochLombardi definitely should, although I think he benefits with that due to his elite athleticism
Great show💪💪💪💪💪
My guy came thru AGAIN💪💪💪💪 thanks 😎😎😎😎😎
Wus sup voch🔥🔥🔥 content keep grinding
I knew from your reaction last night, I’d want to watch your take.
Ty Guy!!!
Solid read
Man when Tyler smith coach him up he gone be a animal
I will say as an OU fan, that OU runs a very quick paced high tempo offense that uses quick screens, RPOs and primarily counter run schemes and a lot of his technique he uses could be due to that offense. It doesn’t excuse the hand placement though.
he needs a lot of coaching but.. i'm leaning on the confidence that we develop o-line pretty well!!
You don't work for dallas Cowboys, so cut it out sitting at home on your couch doesn't make you in expert
On the 2nd rep I think that was a Lock Call.
It’s inside zone but it’s same side it didn’t hit cross face so I don’t know if he was really working hard to get movement
More of a shield block
Nah the internet is goofy, this is sound logical film explanation of this young player…Bc he is a Texas guy (born & bred I mean) most of the Olineman usually find their way to Duke in DFW at some point in time…my guess is he will take a ton of pics and then find a nice place in Frisco to rent and get his big ahh to work w/ Duke and hopefully fix a lot of his deficiencies before camp….now u can’t teach nasty/dawg like Tyler Smith had in truckloads, but he can still be a pretty good tackle eventually 🤷🏾♂️….but they definitely gambled on a project
Yes you nailed it he has all the physical traits nobody else has. But he is missing the KEY intangible= nasty. Not sure if that can be taught ;(
We definitely have to coach him up also, quality reps against Micah and DLaw should help.
Do you have any of his sr bowl film heard it was his best film of his career
My dude.
I think your analysis is spot on. After watching this I actually have more hope for this pick. You pointed out a lot of technique issues that need work. The athletic ability is there as well as him reportedly being a hard worker of good character. The rest can be coached up. Ship him off to Manyweather for a crash course in NFL badassness.
right, he can get better i just dont personally like projects
I like the breakdown on TG. You can clean up his deficiencies but you can't teach a player to be a dawg. From what I saw on this film breakdown he is not a dawg, but he is a Cowboy so we gotta roll with him.
I swear I just read your post and I thought it was mine exactly!
Agreed.
The "False step" Isn't a Guyton issue it's a coaching fix. Some OL coaches teach stepping inside first to take away any cross face or stunt. Their whole line does it on the playtime of Inside zone plays.
I do agree I don't see a mauler and those hands need work too
he was taught but it is a problem, Mazis michigan coaching haunted him all season
I just wandering if u take a OG like Coleman from TCU hes a road grader get him at pick 87 put him at Center. Thoughts Please
he's bigger than everyone else and gets out of his stance and on the move in a blink - i think the technique will come
Agree on both athleticism, size, and technique will come. I just hope he makes real contact on his blocks, and gets some push on the defenders once in awhile. He is playin pattycake out there being all nice. Need the mauler in him to come out and play ;)
I had fun at the 5 star Online Review Restaurant 😂
Before I started listening to any draft analysis, I saw a mock 2 months ago that projected Guyton to the Cowboys, so I went and watched his film and wondered why anyone was considering him a first round pick. He is constantly getting beat by good defensive ends.
But hey, maybe that tendency to step first with his left foot will translate well to being moved to left tackle.
Do you think since Guyton had a lefty at QB that he is technically experienced at LT? I like the pick.
I felt like the same things were said about Tyler Smith and that turned out pretty good. If we can pick up a center better than Hoffman I’m happy with it all.
nah Voch said specifically Tyler Smith top trait was he is nasty and even with bad form he mauls people into the ground. The perfect guard. You are correct not many of us thought he could also hold down the left tackle role as a rookie as he lacked some basic form, technique, not a blackbelt. That was amazing. So I think Voch and definitely my main concern is he doesn't make the nasty blocks and finish. He just makes some contact and does the lah lah lah. I will have faith but I think comparing him to Tyler Smith does TS a major dis service.
I hope TYLER GUYTON is WATCHING/LEARNING FROM THIS
Appreciate the film session and analysis. A lot of work and development for Guyton to make him a professional LT, or RT for that matter. And selected at 1st round! Sorry but they could’ve and should’ve done better. But the trade back was a good move. RB, DT, and OL next up.
Some the issue is that Guyton has only played OL for 4 years. Got a lot to learn.
On the plus side, he’s going to learn quick lining up against micah, d-law, billy d sam and them
I think the false step acts like the negative step in basketball to help accelerate faster
Voch, Can you do a quick film session showing us the difference or how much more work TS college film compared to TG film?
I think Beebe will be a better day one player. 3 years from now, that can be a very different story. I think Martin will be a blessing for Beebe.
I think his rough edges can be smoothed out as long as he stays healthy throughout camp and preseason.
Why don’t we trust the process? The Cowboys legit hasn’t missed on a 1st round OL.
He’s only the 5th in 40 years. I trust them and have confidence he will be an asset but that’s a really small sample size
I feel like the consensus is too trust the pick… given their Oline track record.
The issue is, we simply couldn’t afford a project as our first round pick, especially with the way we’ve handled the off-season thus far….
And it’s that hubris exactly that could’ve led them into such a decision, thinking they could just make anyone an all pro because That’s all they’ve ever done…
As much as I would hope that he comes in and surprises us a la Micah Parsons, what is the likelihood that is the case?
We needed at least two starters and a couple of contributors for this year in this draft, most of all our first round pick…
Shocked they got as good a deal in the trade down as they did, honestly, but we sorely needed an impact “play now” player instead of a guy who needs a lot of coaching up, but won’t likely have the same coaches next year, thereby hindering “the process”…
im just reporting th information
You raise a good point but it is not absolute. Half of me trusts the process then half of me sees a lumbering OL barely making solid contact with the defense and not getting any push and absolutely ZERO mauling or nastiness in his game. Def top 5 physical traits but missing some big intangibles. We see I def give him my faith and support until his play shows us otherwise. DC4L
I agree with your assessment 100% This is why I really was not a fan of TG. The false steps and the catching/waiting I think is going to kill him as a pro. Back when I played, I didn’t have much athleticism, I had concrete feet, but I had great hand and limited wasted movement. My hope is the coaches can teach him up on this. Thanks for sharing all of this
Im just at a point where i see whats coming down the pipe in a rebuild/retooling. Im not expecting much from the team these next 2-3 years, so honestly, I dont really feel bad at all. Kind of a weird spot right now Cowboy fans…🤷🏼♂️
This is the only film on him? One game? I wanted to see him facing different defensive schemes and better competition at the end position. If I recall Oklahoma lost this game lol, was a great day for Texas fans.
Will Mclay is bouta cook tonight
We can cross tackle off our needs and really get BPA for any position.
Moving back cost us barton but now we actually got options at top 100 guys
Solari gone head and get to work brotha✊🏿
To be honest, this looks like a quality 3rd round pick as he appears to be very developmental. For a 1st rd pick, I see this as a huge stretch and a low grade. Perhaps a C.
Every weakness he has can be fixed, it all about unlearning certain coaching techniques. That false step to cover inside rush and swim moves while getting power to take on a bull rush. Also, he did exactly what OU ask him to do on every play which is why he gave up 0 sacks despite only playing a year at Tackle. I think his ceiling and measurables are top 2 in the class and he will be a multiple pro bowl caliber player in a year or two.
I guess we just gotta accept what we got. It's a really feels bad considering there was some better picks available. Some of the O line in the draft were a lot more physical and would drive guys until the whistle or to the ground. I don't see that from him really wish they would've gotten someone that brought more physicality to the table.
Agreed. Thought our biggest priority was getting better in the run game 🤷♂️
Voch is floor guy. The cowboys like traits. Guyton is not where we would like him to be but he’s a 6’8 athlete. If he gets the right coaching he could be an all pro AND we can now have more exotic run schemes that we could not do with Tyron. With the trade down it’s a solid pick
Hands down palms up🤣🤣🤣
He's young and inexperienced at tackle. He's gonna grow up quick. He shows some good flashes on this tape and a lot of easy to correct stuff. I love the draft and talk myself into most guys we take early (not SCHOONMAKER) and I am now in Tyler's corner.
"Did you hear what I said ?!" - LT Dan
We got a guy with good traits that will take some time. I feel good about Duke getting him on track but sad he won’t be stud day 1. Barton gonna be an all-pro
If they hadn't put themselves in the position of having to trade back to recoup some,, he could be a Cowboy.
@@coganblaster for sure there are also other ways to recoup picks. I would have just taken Barton 24 and figured out the rest today / tomorrow. 1 All pro center > 2 developmental guys imo
LT in this film has a lot of the same issues. May be a coaching problem?
You are the only cowboys creator that is calling a spade a spade. Guyton is beyond sloppy and is a huge project. His upside is out of this world though so I can see why we took him.
This dude is a liability and does not play angry or nasty he looks like Steele from last year
Yeah looks like he is playing pattycake and gets no push at all on his blocks--nothing even close to nasty.
That left foot first step must have been coached to him
At 6:33 that is called a gallop technique> You used the word but, yes that is what it is called. Thats how its taught. My feedback would be to drop his hips to get a bit lower but the 3 teach goes head up on guard. Remember he his 6'8 320, thats a big kid.
Same with the couple of plays later, I think that more on the G. The gallop technique is used for a double on the "3 tech". The G may been responsible for stepping to the 3 tech but he saw the backer hitting the A gap.
Doesn't the Gallup disrupt the timing for the combo. Which ultimately disrupts the timing of the LB climb. I was always taught to thump immediately. This looks weird
@@VochLombardi no from what I was taught at clinics and on field with some OL coaches is that the gallop technique gets to the double quicker with near foot near shoulder and helps the and helps the G snap to the 3 tech quicker. The backer is reading either A-C so it doesn’t disrupt the timing of the climb OT because the backer is probably using a lever technique with a “spill, lever, spill”
Again, it can probably be taught in different modifications
Wanted a Center but T. Guyton just needs good coaching and we have our Tackle.
I think once he get into the lab w Duke, and some playing time, we got a pretty good tackle for the foreseeable future. And that false step, it looks like he was taught that, he does it way too often…
@voch I bet it's not a false step it's protect the inside first coached into him 📝
Oklahoma's 2 point stance for tackles kinda irkin me. Kinda feels like that's why he false steps so much.
How is he so raw if he had one of the best O Line Coaches in the business?
3rd they Should have Drafted the Center from Michigan who is Currently a 5th round Draft Pick in 23. That plays with the Seattle Seahawks. He has an African Name.
Excellent film breakdown! This kid is simply not ready, and has no real shot to be this team’s starting LT for 2024!
Why spend your 1st pick on a project, when you need starting OL right now???
SOS from the Jones’s!
The Cowboys should have Drafted Steve Aliva Guard from TCU. And Drafted the Defensive Tackle from Baylor in the 2nd Round.
Voch I’m trying to be positive about this pick but JPJ was there. I’m telling myself the Cowboys don’t miss on first rounders.
To be a solid left tackle all he needs is better hand work and bend. But those things are easier to coach than most. You cant coach 6-7, good feet, natural strength and 34 inch arms which he already has.
he plays like he doesnt trust his strength
He treats all the defenders out there very nicely. Gets zero push, just kinda mirrors them and stays in the way a lot. Zero fight or aggressiveness is a very bad trait for football & OL. Nasty can't be taught but guess we need to do our best.
@@skine4786 How do you figure that?
@@davidlawrence8051 look at the comment under my first comment
Was a little eff on the pick. Wish they would have gotten Barton. Hopefully it’s works out
Let's just hope we don't use the extra pick we traded for to move up in round 2 and get brooks. We don't need a running back until day 3
We got a 3rd and a guy who is already better than Edoga. How many times last yr did Steele let Dak get crushed. Zack Martin all pro G whiffed on some blocks. Its going to happen to every player. Coaching like you said he has the athletic ability just needs some reps and coaching. Tyler S can help him as well. I like the pick and the 3rd we have 4 in the top 100 now. Reps and coaching.
Y’all need to realize scouts have personal opinions based on what their eyes are telling them. Voch has said himself multiple times he’s a floor guy, but he knows if you have the coaching you can get a guy with traits and mold him, if you ask me I say we got our LT for the next decade, but we just goin have to wait and see
I feel like this was a good pick. We’ll see though
I watched your film breakdown of Tyler Guyton on your Patreon, Voch. I can't stop focusing on that false step, bad habit he has which like you said every step counts in the NFL.
He's going to be a project to fix the problems he has but the upside has to be his athletic ability & speed. Problem is he plays like he is unsure of himself like he is afraid to miss blocks.
Time will tell if he can get his ish cleaned up but a backup plan like Bakhtiari would be better for this season.
watching this film i can play tackle in the nfl
We can wait for him to develop since we are rebuilding anyway
Jerry is going to buy Duke a yacht with this project.
Yall on here talking He is a Athletic liability and he is A nice guy on the field we want dogs and VOCH Speaks OL no way you can hear this man literally break each play down in detail and believe he's hating. He's saying and critiquing exactly what the film shows ‼️
guyton succeeds in the most difficult part of the most difficult reach block, which is getting in position. hand positioning and fixing the footwork just require coaching and practice. i dont see any reason why all the complaints, and imagine where he would have been picked if he had good technique and was mauling people.
Sounds like you think he has the traits you cant teach and missing ones you can. That paired with Dallas' track record of developing O-lineman I'm happy with the pick. I'll trade day 1 starter for a 10 year starter
It seems like they teaching them that because 75 is doing the exact same thing
correct , kids doing what he was coached to do lol
@@Fresh2def105 then now we have a "mazi was taught this problem"
@@VochLombardi i’ve always questioned Mazi between the ears … never liked any of his answers in any interviews.
He needs to get woth Duke now.
Arnold was right there.
Bill Bedenbaugh is the OL coach at OU. He teaches a lot of Far Foot techniques in zone and duo. Guyton's feet look great,,,,he needs hand placement development.
Tyron Smith and Guyton look identical when blocking DUO or inside zone, take a look at it.
Once Duke gets hold off him this offseason training he will starting 1st game fa sho !!!
Theres work needed to be done. His hands, squaring up and feet a bit but what was encouraging he completly crushed and dominated jared verse. He can completely move you off the field though a lot. Look at the florida state game. Instead. Even with the work he needs. He had verse 😢
He'll get there. I think.
It 100% looks like Oklahoma is either teaching the step or the coaches don’t give af about feet 🤷♂️
Micah is going to crush this dudes confidence in camp
Last year Draft the Cowboys Should have Traded back with Kansas City Chiefs and picked up and extra 2nd Round Draft Pick in 2023.
He'll be practicing against Micah so that will help
But he wins his reps
Sorry I’m catching this video late but as a former D1 OL and watching this film it appears that his lack of nastiness at times may be due to the offensive scheme at times and I think that a part of his downfall is definitely coaching at times. For a guy to not show any improvement with technique from fall camp all the way to the end of the season is coaching. Coaches tend to get lazy when they got a potential first rounder on their roster instead of leaning into them and pushing them. Cause he will not get away with some of these things in the NFL, guys are too good.
Thanks Voch. Do you think he doesn't maul people because he's lazy? He doesn't seem to have a lot of extra effort in his play.
He has zero nasty. He barely makes contact or gets any push at all on the defender. I just think he is a really nice guy and doesn't wana hurt anyone out there. BAD and I don't think this can be taught. Ya have it or ya don't(Tyler Smith, Erik Williams etc.). Maybe it is lazy but not sure.
I hate the Tyler smith comparisons with this guy. We switched tyler smiths entire position to fit what he did great.
watching him line up against micah in camp might get kinda ugly
Duke will teach that cat hell be ready
This guy a first round draft pick 😅
ITS NOT A FALSE STEP
What is it
