Hi JB, another really good review. Watching your videos encouraged me to take up rucking as a way to supplement my gym workouts. Bought the 25l 4.0 and it was comfortable out of the box and the high viz lining and side carry handles make this thing great for edc as well as rucking. I added an A19 organizer on the inside loop field ( pocket flap tucked in ) and a Goruck wire dop Kit give me all the organization needed.
I think there should be velcro INSIDE the plate pockets as well. That way, when one pocket or the other is not being used, the pockets velcro tight to themselves. So if you have weight in the back pocket, the front pocket velcros shut to itself to make everything tighter with no unnecessary play.
what exactly would be the maximum weight I could get in there with plates? How much more would be possible in addition? Of course not for super long distances but short intensive ones.
I am not aware of a bag limit...but I've heard of people filling sand bags with lead shot and really going heavy. Biggest plate carry is the 45lb + 30lb...so 75lbs of steel then whatever you put in on top of that.
@@JBOutside1 I really appreciate that, I honestly didn't expect an answer, especially not on the same day just a few hours later. I have been traveling with the Ruck Plate Carrier long for almost 2 years. Mostly on 1-2 of my walks with my two dogs. I started with 20LB and then trained with 35 LB for a very long time. I have had my first 45 LB plate since the beginning of the week. I can do an hour with it, but now I'm thinking back and forth about the best next step. I was hoping to get the 45LB + 35LB into the Rucker 4.0. Especially for short distances and workouts. Seems like I'll need a 30 LB when the time comes to max it out. Of course, the 45LB + 20LB will do for now. Maybe I'll get lucky and somehow get the plates I already have underneath. I thought about it for a long time but your video showed me convincingly that this part is the right choice for me, thank you for the detailed explanation. Great content THANK YOU!
If just getting into Rucking, is it worth the 4.0 or wait for an upgrade closer to the 3.0 which more folks seem to like or just get the 4.0 since I don’t know what I’m missing?
In this case I think the best option is to try and find a 3.0 from someone looking to get rid of one (that can be tough)...so probably best to get a 4.0. I don't expect zippers to come back to the Rucker and that front pocket might be gone forever too. So 4.0 is probably the standard. That said, I have no insight on what a 5.0 would look like or if a change is even planned.
@ 🤔 thanks, started looking for a 3.0 but as you know that’s tough, if you have a thought of where to look let me know, otherwise I guess 4.0 it is, been using a sand bag and a backpack so I’m looking forward to a dedicated pack with a place for the weights 👊🏻
Excellent video. I didn’t know they had an even newer version with the Rucker 4.0, 2nd edition. Yeah, I have the 25L mostly to have those two plate pockets. We’re the same height, so the newer 4.0 20L with two pockets would probably be a better fit.
Can I use this with a plate and a laptop? I'd like to use the bag for more than just training. Would having a plate, laptop, gloves other miscellaneous items all together to use for work or my edc bag be ok?
I have the initially released Rucker 4.0 without the logos (thank god) and that’s my only complaint really, not even the velcro replacing the zippers (though I would prefer zippers) The slant pocket is dearly missed on a regular basis
For plates it depends on what you’re doing and whether you plan to one day get a Rucker. If you think you’ll get a Rucker eventually then get the standard plate. Taller plates fit better in the laptop compartment of the GR1 and won’t move up/down as much. But that’s also not a big deal for just rucking. It IS a big deal if you’re doing “bear crawls” or the plank movements either the GR1. If just rucking it doesn’t matter
Whatever you're typing that from was almost 100% made overseas. Just get over it. They make great quality stuff it's just cheaper cause of labor laws and stuff (kinda inhumane but ok)
@@averageglockenjoyerNah. Not going to get over it and your comment is a false equivalence. There aren’t US made alternatives in the phone market. There are tons of US made alternative in this space. Jason spent years using “Made in the USA and always will be” as marketing. He went to Vietnam for cheap labor, to increase profit margins. That’s his prerogative. It’s just one of many low integrity moves, after spending years of emphasizing what made GR different in his State of GORUCK posts, interviews, and in person. If there is an option for US made product I will always buy that option. Yes, I’m aware they have GR products made in the travel line. They do not in the rucking/workout line.
Just 2 comments. Why are GoRuck weights so freaking expensive? And why are the waist belts so long? I have a 32" waist and it barely cinches small enough for me.
At one point they made a small sized hip belt. Not sure why they ditched that option. As for the price, there are options available from other vendors. Just double check the dimensions
i think the logo on the front was preplanned as they are now official sponsors crossfit games. it will probably be widely televised and they want to put their name out there and want people to see all these people with goruck bags on their back.
Ain’t buying this one. I think I own every other GR1 21L with original back. P.S. Aside: you think it’s worth grabbing a Dyneema GR1 21L for EDC? Worried about zippers and last but I would love lighter-weight bag on my back…you’ve been wearing it for awhile. Floating your boat? Wait for something new on horizon? As short person, love the 18” length and enough room to stuff. So few bags fit me. The Gorucks have been blessing. P.S. I would watch your videos even if you talked about turning dirt into soup.
Rucker 3 for life. I will not buy another unless they restore the outer zip pocket, interior zippers, short weight pocket plus elastic sleeve. The large branding is ridiculous.
Why spend an insane amount of money on goruck products when you can easily accomplish the same results for alot less. Rucking has beeb around for thousands of years ever since militaries had to move and carry their equipment. Goruck isnt doing anything special definetly not for the insane prices they charge.
Which is why I advocate people start with whatever they have when starting out rucking (Rucking 101 video)...once you decide this is something serious you can upgrade when the time is right
You could cut a piece of Eva foam the size of a plate for the inner pocket to get rid of the play. It would also add padding with no real weight difference
I agree - OUTSIDE POCKET NEEDS TO COME BACK w/Zipper. Otherwise nice bag
Yes!

Just Ordered Mine In Tiger Camo with 30lb Orange Short Plate
Nice!!
3.0 for the win!
True
This video had exactly the info I was looking for as a newbie to this hobby. Thank you for making it!
Glad it was helpful!
The spacer is for if you want that 30lb short one in the back big pocket with no movement
👊🏻
Thank you

Is it ergonomic to rock the 45lb and the regular (not long) 30lb plates together or the 45lb and the 10 lb and 20lb plates???
Exact same. The 10+20 is the same dimensions as the 30

I think so too Joe. Great choice if you plan to go above 30lbs

@@TheHolbeing so you can certainly use this for both functions. But I wouldn’t mix steel plates with electronics at the same time
I have the early edition 25L 4.0 in grey and I'm almost positive it's 1000D
Good stuff. I’m pretty sure just a few colors were 500D
Aside fro..plates, can you put other thjngs in the 4.0? Like watr bottles, and snacks.
Yes, it'll take all those things and more!
@@JBOutside1 Thanks, man!
Where did you get the straps for resting your hands to reduce fatigue?
The ones I use are from Goodwerks and I don't think he has them at the moment. Otherwise there are some orange clips really cheap at Home Depot
What the major difference in results from backpack rucking versus a weighted vest?
Checkout my “Rucking FAQ” video. I answer that there
Great video, thanks
Glad you liked it!
Is a 30 lb long or standard easier for a 20L new Rucker?
30lb Long. The 20L has a long pocket and short pocket.
Velcro lined to add your own zippered pockets
👍🏻
Does these packs come with lumbar support
Yes, the Rucker's have a lumbar pad
Add back the front pocket and I’m sold big time. I refuse to buy until then
Absolutely

Which plates do you recommend for the gr1 21l the standard or the long plates? Also is it worth getting the shaddox pouch for the gr1? Thanks.

Jb, in your expert advice, get the 4.0 now or follow your 101 video & hold out til the 5.0? Thank you..
I still haven't heard if or when a 5.0 will be released so I personally wouldn't bank on it. I'd get a 4.0 and not delay getting those miles in
Worse value now since they don’t include the hip belt or sternum strap.
I’ll keep my Rucker 3.
Goruck nickel and diming.
Sternum strap IS included. That’s essential. Hip belt not required IMHO for MOST Ruckers
