I once just duct taped the outside of the ball, and then cut the panels and flattened the duct tape as much as possible, if you put too much tape you can barely see the seams between panels, but it's pretty simple otherwise
@@LIONGOD i've tried masking tape but the layers couldn't stick on each other very well. to make the duct tape non-stick after you remove it from the ball you can always put baby powder on the glue side.
reverse engineering a ball is such a neat idea! when it comes to the issue of the panels not lying flat i can offer a suggestion from the knowledge of plushie- and fursuit-making: which is to cover your model (the football panel) in a layer of masking/painter's tape (as small pieces as possible to avoid wrinkling) and then peel the tape off as a big piece and stick it to a sheet of paper, and there's your pattern piece! naturally it'll likely still need some adjustment, but it could potentially save some time
A pleasant surprise to hear you're helping people learn ball-making, I've got 2 pairs of my old cleats sitting in my closet and I want to reuse them into a ball like you did with the Adidas Predator 92 piece ball. As always great video!
Looks like that ball is based on a icosidodecahedon. Each regular pentagon has been merged with one equilateral triangle that surrounds it. Nice design though.
Such an interesting insight into this ball. My favorite over the years was the 16/17 premier league Nike Ordem 4 with the interplay of pentagons and hexagons. Thanks for documenting and sharing your passion and insight!
Awesome video that more people need to see. Such a cool creation and amount of work is impressive. Wish I had seen it before the WC, wouldve have a good nugget for the pub to make me sound cool.
This youtuber was born in the wrong era, he should have been born and raised in Europe in the 70s-80s so he could work in what he likes, imagine sewing an Adidas Tango or Telstar by hand.
@@somedude2808 well with mini it wouldn’t be to scale and match balls and 40$ balls are way different if he wanted to make a exact copy he would use the ones they use in matches and I get what you say but in the end it’s his money

wouldn't masking tape be a way better choice of tape?

A flower logo version would be cool. Like 3 parts have the exrra stripes

For those wondering, the colorful ball at 0:30 is the 1999 USA Women's WC "Icon" Ball
More long form videos please!!
Can you make a "Solid object of constant width Reuleaux Triangle" ball? It's a 3D triangular wheel. They occur in other shapes, like pentagonal too

The brown one is much more beautiful than the original. I like simple. And the color! I can see why you chose it!
Really good video. Suprised it doesn't have more views.

can't wait to see you reverse engineer the best WC ball of all time, the Fevernova!
Glad to see another Fevernova enjoyer :) that ball was class
The Fevernova was a truncated icosahedron like all the WC ball from 1970 to 2002. It had been the last truncated icosahedron ball used in a WC.
When will there be another Video in this series?
I love what you are doing! Keep it coming
This reminds me of a quidditch quaffel - might be a good challenge to do
@jonpaulsballs i think you should make a ball from recycled car seats
@jonpaulsballs you should also make one out of kevlar
What did you do with the ball tracking suspension rig that came in the official match balls?
What is the material you use for your daily driver though?
Can u put the template on the page please :)
There is defenetly a lot of talent, now you just need the support!
I want to see more vintage balls
Proud moment for us This ball was made in my country Pakistan 🇵🇰
So are most balls to be fair
Yeah 😊
Uh-deet-as
Brown leather balls rule! :p
pattern?
It’s a really cool idea and the ball looks amazing but it would hurt me so much to buy a football that’s worth more than $100 to destroy it
it hurt me too
Underrated
thats awesome though
I think it would make a good hat😅
Make the "teamgeist"ball from 2006 germany
It looks vintage
make teamgiest

Eliptic
This job sucks balls 😅
Bro why are you destroying a 60-160 💵 Match Ball you don’t know how many people would love to have one
It’s his ball he makes ball for a living he wanted to create a ball out of a famous ball
What I’m saying is he could’ve used the mini version or the takedown model that’s only like 40 bucks instead of destroying a freaking match ball

@@progamerkevin3946 what about the 60$ competition ball it has the exact same panels just different texture on them
lol who cares it’s his money
