- Though Just Cause isn't necessarily mentioned in the same breath as open world behemoths like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, the series' appeal is undeniable.
Avalanche Studios' open world franchise has built up a dedicated and sizeable following for itself over the years, and with looking at its gorgeous settings, bombastic action, and the blistering chaos that its open world systems always encourage, it's not hard to understand why it has enjoyed that success.

JC4 lacks the same “capture all regions” formula that made JC3 so much fun
Just finished playing Just Cause 3 and it was a really fun game. I am currently playing Just Cause 4 and although it isn't as good as JC3, it is still fun. It is a shame that JC series seems like it is dead.
Jc2 is my fav… even tho there is no wing suit the parachute is fast and it’s got stunt jumping on vehicles

I'm going back through JC3 right now and honestly I'm finding it a lot more fun than JC4 for multiple reasons, hopefully if they make a JC5 they go back to what worked in JC3 and the few things that worked in JC4 and mix them to make a really amazing sequel.

Just cause 4 was such a letdown seriously it was fun but nothing cool like just cause 3, and just cause 2. They removed the chaos which was very disappointing. Hopefully they bring back chaos back and add sprinting and dodging like JC2.
You couldn’t even destroy bridges until a post launch update 🤣 they definitely shot them selfs in the foot with JC4 , it was more or less a JC3 DLC with less effort

4 had a boring story and boring enemy faction, though, the black hand in 3 were actually pretty cool
4 could have had way more destruction and they ruined the just cause feel by getting rid of liberation and adding ‘strikes’
4s weather system was pretty cool, though there could have been control for the tornado
what the rest of the games did right was make the map sort of the same biome, while 4 somehow had a jungle, plains, deserts and mountains

Avalanche shot themselves in the leg by downgrading Just Cause 4 as much as they did. Here are a few examples:
-Liberation, which was a core feature of Just Cause 3, was completely scrapped for the horribly boring and copy pasted 'region strike' missions of which there are about 3 kinds, which means it gets repetitive extremely fast. In JC3 you could use different strategies to liberate bases, towns, and outposts but in JC4 it forces you to do these boring missions.
-They removed Rico's signature dual handguns in JC4 and also removed grenades and C4 all of which were extremely useful tools in JC3.
-Vehicles have ammo limits now, because screw you.
-The story was horrible. I'm not saying JC3 had GTA 5/RDR2 levels of storytelling but that game actually had memorable characters (Mario Frigo, Di Ravello, Dimah, etc.) Di Ravello was an amazing fit for a dictator and the story acknowledged his presence well as he appeared multiple times throughout JC3's story. JC4's main dictator, Oscar Espinosa, appears TWICE in JC4, once at the beginning, and once at the end. None of the other characters are memorable in JC4.
-Graphics are a major downgrade from JC3. Water effects in JC4 are a literal copy pasted decal, while in JC3 water looked almost photo realistic. Explosion effects have been toned down. JC4 has a warmer color tone compared to JC3 which makes the image looked much more washed out, dark, and bland overall. Just Cause 3 had a beautiful and vibrant color tone that made it so nice to look at, and seeing that compared to JC4's color tone is the definition of a downgrade.
-The overall setting of JC4 is much less creative. JC3's Medici actually feels real; as it's heavily inspired by real life locations, those mainly being Italy and a bit of southern France, and it feels authentic, like you're actually there. Just Cause 4's setting doesn't really know what it's supposed to be based on, it's literally just a generic South American style island, and as such Solis feels like a fake country and isn't authentic at all.
-The wanted level system, known as Heat in the Just Cause series, isn't fun anymore in JC4. In JC3, you had actual heat levels (1 to 5 stars) and the Medici Military would chase you. As the heat increased, the military would bring in more reinforcements and then send in helicopters and tanks to try and stop you. You could escape the heat in two ways, one of which was unique to JC3: the first and most obvious way is to flee the area or hide somewhere long enough to escape. The second way, which was unique to JC3, was to kill soldiers before they could call for backup. Once you did this enough times, your heat would clear since the soldiers didn't call for backup units and the dispatcher assumed the situation was resolved.
In JC4, heat levels are no longer displayed to you; you now need to guess what level you're at based on how many units are attacking you. Like in JC3, as your heat level rises, helicopters and tanks show up. However, in JC4 fighter jets will also spawn to attack you. What's the big deal then? Well, there is no reliable way to fight back against these fighter jets. These jets are overpowered too; their attacks usually almost kill you. To add insult to injury, the game will not stop spamming Black Hand units wherever you can't see, and at times the game gets so lazy they spawn right in front of you. If you're in the air and wanted, fighter jets spawn instantly. At least in Just Cause 3 the military spawned realistically, while in JC4 they can spawn as close as a car length away from you at times.
-NPC voice acting is terrible in Just Cause 4. The Black Hand sound ridiculous and downright annoying which already adds to them being annoying enemies to fight. The Army of Chaos rebels sound just as ridiculous, and I'm 99% sure they reused voice actors, as some rebels have the exact same voices as Black Hand units. Compare this to Just Cause 3 where the Medici Military actually sounded like a professional army, and the rebels sounded good as well.
-No proper day/night cycle like in the previous games. I've never seen JC4 at night outside of missions and people who have tell me that night only lasts about 10 minutes, while the day lasts an hour. I distinctly remember the previous games having a day/night cycle, Medici looked spectacular at sunset.
-Gun sounds have been severely nerfed. in Just Cause 3 guns would echo off the surrounding landscape, making the whole experience much more authentic. Firefights in JC3 sounded amazing as a result. In JC4, this effect was removed for whatever reason. If you listen to the gun sounds side by side, you can hear that JC4's guns sound suppressed, despite suppressors and attachments as a whole not being available in the Just Cause series.
-Compared to JC3, JC4's towns and cities don't feel alive at all. In JC3 towns felt alive; after liberating them there would even be fireworks and street musicians performing. JC4's towns have none of that.
-There is no proper introduction to JC4 (remember launching rockets off that plane in JC3?) and there is no final boss fight with Oscar Espinosa, it's a cutscene instead.

I've played every Just Cause. Number 3 was my favorite. But I'm definitely looking forward to a Just Cause 5.

Loved the series since 1 till 3, not sure what happend to 4 which I bought but for some reason was quickly bored with it, I just felt something was missing but can't recall what that was. Maybe I'll install it again someday. As mentioned a new Mad Max game wouldn't be so strange as there is a new movie in development or has still to start development? Other then that I feel they might be able to do a Superman game?
Have to think that someday, someone will make a new MM game. The first one was awesome!

Politics in video games dilutes what made the games great. JC4: For starters bring back gang colors instead of a rainbow rave party. The AI always crashing ruined 4 for me, but visually it was amazing
I only played 3 and 4 and love them both equally. Wish they would make 5.

jc3 was a fun ass game. I put in alot of hours into jc3 on my PS4. and that was my first introduction to just cause in general. the destruction was super fun for me
All of us just cause fans we reallynneed to make a pole for just cause 5 i think it would be cool to see a just cause game with next gen levle graghics and it would also be cool to see what destruction would look like 😂😂😂

After playing jc4 fully I realize I did not like jc3 that much back then and even more now. I think it’s because of the skill tree, having everything just there except the weapons and vehicles of course just feels so much more fun instead of always having to get gears to have more fun
That's a very small difference. By mechanics alone 3 is legions better. Granted, I have all the gears but hey, the missions are often fun anyway. Especially the wingsuit ones. Love those.

The thing I disliked most about just cause 4 is how you liberate stuff, in JC3 I could just go somewhere blow some stuff up, shoot some bad guys and boom it's free, but JC4 i had to do missions to liberate.

@@DRA114 3 is EASILY the best in the series. Great storyline for a Just Cause game, absolutely fucking MASSIVE explosions, jam-packed DLCs, amazing humor littered around the place, insane chaos...it's just great in every way. Even looks fairly good by today's standards.

I personally began playing jc 4 after it went free in ps plus since I have a gaming pc I bought jc 3 and have ti say I like it more mostly because of destroying bases to free a region instead of the you need troops part also the dropping of vehicles at garages is good.

Ive almost 100%ed all games from 1-4 and the story is actually good when you pay attention to it, and I'll be pissed of the story ends at 4 where we just end on a cliff hanger.
Story is also better with DLCs especially in JC3. They give a lot more insight to the story.

I honestly havnt played just cause since jc2. Never got around to 3, and something just didn't feel right in 4. I do plan to go bsck and try them again, but it will probably be around the time jc5 is announced.
you definitely need to play jc3 before jc5 is announced, you will have a lot of fun, i promise you.
gameplay is wayyyy better in 3 compared to 2. the map is kinda boring since they have lesser biomes but the improved destruction makes up for it.
don't bother with 4. they changed the main objective of blowing everything up to escort missions.
So what I have gather is I need to play 3, ignore 4, and pray for 5?
@@troyboyd7984 mainly lol. I should warn you that Just Cause 3 is a bit buggy on older generation consoles, but nothing game-breaking. It does also plays well on newer generation consoles.

Bittersweet feelings about this game:
Pros first:
storyline, while nothing groundbreaking, was engaging while keeping things focused and simple.
Love the mood of the game, a mixture of serious but at times funny. Characters were interesting enough.
Graphics were gorgeous, very detailed. Good saturation as far as this particular series goes at least.
Music was fun.
Now the cons:
Mod system was disappointingly complex (looked good on paper but terrible in reality)
Location was predictable. I mean How many islands can Rico go to? Really?
Overall feeling? 6 out of 10.
The reason why it didn’t sell as well as the others is because they forgot what just is a sand box were you destroy thing in just four there less destruction more missions

things i want in just cause 5
1 new animations-( i dont care about updated animations although they probably are needed)
2 more customization on character clothing maybe, vehicles guns etc...
3 possibly different or new approaches on gameplay, stealth maybe but definitely keep the original just cause formula.
4 more effects, natural disasters, details, and graphic updates maybe next gen, hopefully- definitely better water effects maybe sea life or aquatic life amphibians swamps with marshy creatures suck as alligators and other crocodilians would be cool
5 better driving or at least a slightly more realistic take on it
6 it would be cool if there was like some type of melee combat or something just imagine doing takedowns or something on enemies
7 better, more realistic AI
8 please bring back fun liberations
9 online-offline multiplayer for sure/if not possible at least make a co-op or squad version where you can team up with friends-(you know we all want it)
10 maybe animals that attack you just as a fun detail to play around with cuz why not or should i say "just cause"
11 make it even more immersive
12 bring back cool/cold vibrant colors jc3 had but still in a realistic manner
13 maybe first person to a small decent
14 maybe a more immersive or better story- not that its needed but if its good the game would obtain a wider variety of players -(these are my personal opinions) thanks! :) cant wait... if there was a game this perfect with all of the qualities of the just cause series I swear this would be one of the highest selling games of all time or at least of a certain decade or so despite the last instalments failure all though it was still a fun game over all. I drought all of this would every make it into a full release. Prove me rong avalanche... Hopefully.

Where is it? Hopefully in a bunch of folders, being thought out more than not at all like the last entry. Even 3 was disappointing.
The developers need to make it more like Just Cause 2.

1. Most important thing about open world games is cruising around in a vehicle and exploring.
But after JC2 that feature falls down in a hole. they started focusing on wingsuit which feels good during missions and sidequests. Rest of the time it makes world feels small and boring.
2. Open world is too boring no thoughts put into it especially JC4 it's just a procedurally generated mess.
3. Too repetitive

In mercenaries you could destroy buildings in just cause series you could only destroy bridges or gas tanks and red stuff how destruction tech never improve is fucking crazy
Agreed. Just Cause was essentially a ripoff of Mercenaries, but it's all we had left after EA shut the developers down.
Also, with respect to the Tech, I remember during the ps2 era developers were always hyping up "Intelligent AI". It's sad enemy AI never advanced beyond being idiot's.

I loved 2 and 3 so much played 3 thro a few times, but hated 4 so much I just stopped playing it just a few hrs in tried again same thing happened after about 1 hr just gave up it had totally lost everything that made the others so enjoyable and fun , if there was going to be a 5 I would have waited until I could get it second hand for next to nothing and maybe not even then but they have killed it off anyways what a sad end....

JC2 is the first JC game I ever played and I absolutely loved it, the MP mod was hours and hours of fun for me, but JC3 is where I truly fell in love with the series, and I have a ton of nostalgia for JC3, i still haven’t really played 4 after hearing what people said about it when it came out, played the first couple of missions of it and didn’t HATE it, just seemed like more of the same from 3 which isn’t necessarily a bad thing
I love Mad Max so I've hopes that they would make another Mad Max series with more chaotic vehicular combat in the near future.

Just cause 4 is soooo underrated. On the series S runs amazingly and the way you can custom your abilities is dope 🔥 you can create infinite things with that physics engine. Skip most of cutscenes and you’ll be good (story isn’t appealing imo)
Yeah I liked just cause 4 a lot too, jc4 wasn't as good as jc3, but still a fun game. Its a shame that the success of these games are still so dictated by critic reviews, that really angers me. That word again 'commercially'! Meaning that reviews from a$$holes like ign count more towards a games success and it shouldn't be that way at ALL! What the REAL gamers think should be more important! IGN uses stupid f**ks who know nothing about games to do their reviews!
Just Cause 4 tried to return to the Just Cause 2 feel. It was a pretty decent game.
I still play just cause 4 on my ps5. Runs great.

JC2 was amazing for its time, especially graphics wise. JC 3 was alright with a few new mechanics but I never passed the game as I got bored after passing about half the game, whilst 4 was complete 0 effort garbage, when i saw a scene where a woman repairs the guy's backpack with a corkscrew, i alt f4'd, this ain't a mobile freaking game.... I'd rather not have JC5 at this point, they killed it.
I don’t really understand the concept of the story in JC4. In the beginning, we are in a cool secret military base and then boom, we get shot down and wake up in a weird ass jungle.
