Good vid!! I never tried a Tandy groover.. I do have few Tandy tools. Good place for new people to start with, see if they gonna like leathercraft. I have good ,Saddle Groover. Keep it set exact same. The Weaver I did start with. Decent tool. Like all cutting tools, keeping blades sharp makes world of difference. Most all groovers have same failing point!! Cutting blade and guide same distance. Which will allow, at worst time, for the guide to slip upwards , causing a bad cut... I went to the, Since Groover!! Wow!! 3 different size groovers, and also 3 different angle blades. Flat and curved.. amazing piece of leathercraft equipment!! Lol. Just purchased the, Osborne , Compass Stitch Groover. Has 3 different size blades!! Watched ,Bruce Cheaney, a saddle maker, artist leathercrafter, talked with him. Said, his go to always, was the Osborne Compass Groover.. watching him use it, it's amazing tool. Still hard to beat the Since Groover!! Lol. Sorry I'm rambling.. both these tools are indeed more expensive, than Tandy or Weaver. But, I guarantee, you'll throw both them in a tool drawer, and always use a Since or Osborne!! I enjoy the look of borders on most my projects. Just send them off.. and I like to set my hand stitching into groove. My opinion, it looks more professional, at very least looks like the person cared enough to spend little extra time and effort, to make a very nice, Heirloom piece.. like I said, I do keep my regular old style, saddle groover at easy grabbing distance!! Keep it extremely sharp, and seemscwork good on heavy leather. Thank You for your time and video!! Gonna subscribe, hope to see more!! I'm least techy person you'll meet. Never owned a computer or copier. Haven't watched TV in over 35 years. Lol. So I do get on RUclips, to watch you guys and gals, give tutorials. Tbanks
Thanks for the nice reply. I will check into the Osborne Compass Groover and the Since Groover. Who knows I may be doing another video on those groovers in the future.
The tandy deluxe groover is ok. It's fine for finer thread. Not wide enough for heavy/thick thread. I have the Since groover tandy sells, and it's the cat's meow (I use a lot of 207 thread). I use it almost every single time I need a groover. The only other groover I would buy is the horseshoe brand groover. Similar to the Osborne, but made by a better toolmaker. I buy next to nothing from Weaver. Far too over priced.
