  • Jazz drummer Bill Stewart is 46 today! (Oct 18, 2012) Bill has easily been the greatest influence on my jazz drumming. The first clip is a lick he uses sometimes during solos. I play it fast, slower to give a good view of the sticking, and then full speed again. The second clip is another idea he uses during solos and he orchestrates it in many interesting ways; two of which I demonstrate here at fast and slow tempos. The final clip is a short demonstration of a groove he plays on a track called 'Crosstalk' from his own album 'Snide Remarks'. The end of the clip shows the sticking at a slower tempo. This video is the fourth installment of the 'Drummer's Birthdays' series on mikecarroll.ca/
    UPDATE - I've added notation to the original post. You can see it here: mikecarroll.ca/...

    Awesome video. I wondered how those licks we're done exactly. Now it's time for me to practice.

    Thanks Beechnut75! I am using two complex rides. The left is a 22" thin 1st gen, and the right is a 22" medium thin 1st gen. I'd really like to get a 20" 2nd gen like you have!

    That a Gretsch hit? Great sounding kit!

    • @Shuffalospringfield
      @Shuffalospringfield  11 лет назад

      It is a Gretsch New Classic in the standard bebop configuration. The snare is a Ludwig 6 1/2 x 14 hammered bronze supraphonic. Thanks!

    • @tdrum21
      @tdrum21 11 лет назад

      Is that Maple? Supraphonics are normally an aluminum mix, right? Thanks man!

    • @Shuffalospringfield
      @Shuffalospringfield  11 лет назад +1

      The snare is bronze. The exact same model that Bill Stewart uses. The toms and Bass are maple. The supraphonic designation simply refers to the type of strainer. Hope that clears things up! : )
