I don’t think he ever has been nominated (which, now that I think about it is kind of surprising) but, in the current climate, these kinds of movies don’t get as much attention as they used to (middling budget independent films etc) so at least part of the strategy there is to give the cast (and therefore the movie) as much gravitas as possible. I don’t think it’s personal, but I agree, the timing / the way it was cut was pretty funny, however unintentional.

This is an amazing movie, almost on par with Past Lives, depicting real love and human emotions. The cast is amazing and it was shot beautifully - on film.

I just watched the Royal Tenenbaums and Luke really deserves some awards recognition, he’s always brilliant. 100% would watch if I had an apple+ subscription, the cast looks fire and it’s a cool original concept

This looks terrible. A story about a married woman who falls in love with another guy? Sorry, not a story I think this failing society needs. We need more hope, dedication, and traditional values.
I loved it. It’s simple, you feel good and mellow when it ends. The actors did a great job and I absolutely enjoyed the slow pace. It’s refreshing ❤

Yeah...great cast but it was....eh. It's supposed to be a futuristic sci-fi but it's cheap looking. Pull fingernails from couples and put them in this microwave device and in less than 30 seconds that will tell you whether they are a love match or not. The story evolves around this premise which i found very methodical yet not interesting. The cast is good but the material is not.
This movie started off interesting but got more frustrating as it went on and then ended abruptly. I would have loved to seen what happened when she eventually had to go home or back to work. Could they really continue working there after that...

yea but super unhealthy .......i hate hows its become normalized tired of seeing kids younger than me making the same old mistakes our grand parents did . its a cycle we have to learn from it yes but not binge on it.
I think it means she has feelings for one guy but was matched with another who she's supposed to love. She wondered if she could possibly have feelings for both. Clearly it's trying to say she doesn't really love the match, so this scientific love matching method doesn't really work. These other two commenters aren't comprehending this.

I would argue that she DOES love the match (Jeremy Allen White) but is developing feelings for Riz Ahmed's Character as well. And since the test with them only came back with 50% (only one person is in love with the other), she starts questioning the whole process. She feels this deep attraction to him AND her match but according to Science only one is the real match/love for her. So she goes with her gut feeling (i.e. her heart, if you will) and is accepting and giving into her feelings.
I think it's also in some way reminiscent of polyamory and various ethical non-monogamy relationships we have today. We are so focused (and also indoctrinated by media, society, basically everything in western culture) on finding "The One". That there's one person for us with whom we will spend the rest of our lives happily just isn't realistic for everyone, people are just so vastly different. So the idea that even when you have found what seems to be the perfect match for you, there's still a chance someone else might sweep you off your feet. Doesn't mean you don't love the other person anymore, or that you need to decide. It could also just mean you love both of them.

Glad to see TiMER's ripple influence with this sci-fi spin on "hey we did this test and you're soulmates" and then dealing with the human interactions beyond that diagnosis
There have been a LOT of movies ever since "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", about couples or lovers or people breaking up doing some quasi-futuristic "test" at a lab or group. It's honestly been so many times at this point that it's practically its own genre. However, the cast here is really great, so it'll just depend on the script.

One of the most mind-numbingly dumb premises I've ever seen. The writer/director is trying to be Yorgos Lanthimos (both Greek) but fails miserably. Not deep, not smart and ploddingly predictable. I can't believe so many here are giving good reviews. Fingernails? Hello, they're kind of important for protecting the fingers and these people are just giving them away willy nilly to find out something they deep down already know. I guess that's meant to be ironic, but it just comes off as mass stupidity. Go watch a YL film if you want a brilliant allegory for love.

@@moonlily1 im demisexual-demiromantic. So if Im far enough in a relationship to love someone romantically and sexually, that love doesnt grow or shrink over time, the spark doesnt go away. But I can't put you higher or lower, if one person is lower then id just lose romantic attraction completely for them (end the relationship), because id compare their shortcomings to the other partner in my mind and the relationship loses worth. even if they are an amazing person my mind has a hard time compartmentalizing that I don't enjoy this relationship like I do with my other partner. I don't love people part way, if that makes sense, like once you're on the romantic and sexual pedestal you don't go up nor down, more like you're in or youre out (out meaning we could be friends, not lovers). and if someone joins you on the romantic and sexual pedestal then you're both there, no competition necessary. If one was my husband and the other were my boyfriend, Id still love them both equally, becoming my boyfriend is hard, becoming my husband is easy. Im very very picky about my partners though so that is a huge factor. One red flag and I'm out lol. I don't "fall" in love, the same way I'm not friends with just anyone. I date very intentionally, I ask important questions, I'm future planning, were not having sex if were not in an established relationship, etc.
