Imagine how it's like working at buzzfeed: *having random coworkers asking you about their outfit*
Lore Sabbe or to try free food
Or even more vague questions of "what's different about me today?"
@@WebbyLinster your my fav
I find it so cool that she is expressing her culture and looking STUNNING at the same time
April Brady she’s so gorgeous 💕
@@lydiaford6200 I know!!💞
I can imagine all the aunties during weddings and occasions getting minor heart attacks looking at the way u styled your saree and giving u 3 hr lecture😂
And then wonder why they don't see you more often.
recoil53 exactly hahaha😂😂
Nah honestly these styles are getting more common. They are cool. My mom is the one telling me to try these styles for some weddings etc.
Shailee Shah 😂
Honestly? I feel like many of them would think we're being innovative. My aunts and mom would have laughed and chalked it up to the authenticity of the next generation+having-been-raised-abroad
“Wrap around” lady probably just didn’t know what it was called.
Linehp _ also thought this
Buzzfeed is probably teaching her to get offended at everything, and that everything is a microaggression. I would have just been like "Thanks! It's called a sari." Not gotten mad that this american stranger doesn't know the proper words for south asian clothing.
We love a good wrap around 😂👌
If she’s not whinging about how her boobs aren’t catered for she’s being offended by other people
I would just think the person doesn't know the proper term and would say something like "Thank you, it's called a Sari." and move on with my day. Calling it a wrap around isn't really offensive in my opinion because it describes the way its worn quite well and if I didn't know the name for it I would use similar words to describe it to someone. Maybe said lady even wanted to know the proper name but was to shy to ask for it.
The dress one I think you do again and try with a cropped jacket. The long jacket threw off your proportions. Loved it Nina.
ooo good idea!
yess, i was thinking of a black leather jacket
“It’s a beautiful color, I mean I’m colorblind but I can still tell” omg 😂
I ABSOLUTELY ❤️ this video!!! I am Indigenous (Native American/American Indian) - I always try to wear some traditional jewelry every day & sometimes I wear my moccasins (traditional footwear) to work or just out on a day off. I live in a urban area, in the southwest, so it's kinda in the mainstream, but not an everyday thing for everyone to see. I'm wearing what my Ancestors wore, this is my traditional dress - I walk with so much more pride those days! Nobody can mess with on those days!!
That dhoti styled one looks great!!
nina is so beautiful and she looks even better with these clothes. theyre so detailed, and colorful, and wonderful, and just.. ughhhh. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY ROCKING IT AND SHOULD WEAR IT EVERYDAY
GG So positive 😊✨
She looks SO GOOD in bright colours! Black doesn't do her justice. It's like putting a work of art into a cheap, drab frame. The work is still beautiful, but the frame detracts from it.
The dhoti drape is called the Navaari saree which usually the Maharashtrians and Konkanis of India are seen wearing.
Some variations of it are also called lugda pathani and peshwai sari
WHERE ARE ALL MY SOUTH ASIANS AT!!! 🇧🇩 🇵🇰 🇮🇳 🇱🇰
rah man i've seen you more than 4 times tday that crazy lmao
ah the british indian life tho
you forgot these 🇲🇻🇧🇹🇳🇵
From bd but i wanted to know something, aren't you a guy?
Ishan Ali omg get a life
i think the lady that called it a wrap around probably didnt know what it was called. for me, ive never heard of one of these until this video
Ya same
Tiffany Boyd I’m glad that they can make these videos so we know more about other people’s culture 💕
These are the most common cloth that Indian women wear on daily basis..India is the country from where this has been originated.
Well that's very interesting
Seriously? Only the most common dress in one of the most populous areas of the world.
Maybe you should spend less time on Buzzfeed and Twitter.
When she was talking about the lady at the lunch place, maybe the woman didn't know what they were called? Not everyone knows about Saris, they may not have known the proper term but still wanted to make it known that she liked it. Instead of judging her for not using the right term maybe you could just appreciate the compliment.
this!!
Kaylee Tascone plus, I'm Pakistani so I know Saris very well but I couldn't tell that this was a sari as it is usually not styled like this
I ju-just.... BRUHHH
@@emanuelreyes1576 bruh what? Lol
Sure, true on the one hand. On the other it's quite often having old stereotypes, mis-namings, and such dumped on you. As somebody non-white you are outnumbered and there can be a lot of this. Get's tiring.
There are two sides to it. Maybe Buddha can be understanding every minute of his post-Enlightenment life.
I mean all of them looked really beautiful but the first one is defenitly my favorite😍
Loved this! More ways to wear saris casually/change them up -
1) Wear a short-sleeved or sleeveless top underneath your sari instead of a blouse and wrap the pallu (pleated really tightly) around your neck like a long scarf. Means you might have to pay extra attention to the hip pleats since they're on show more than usual, but you can swish and slap haters with the draped end and feel generally invincible.
2) Use the gargantuan piece of fabric you have and use it to create little elements for a capsule wardrobe! Reaaaally easy to get a turban/hair band, shirt and skirt or pair of pants out of that amount of material - particularly if it's a bit longer than usual or taller than your average sari (some silks like Chanderi usually are tall on me, but that's because I'm smol). Having a sari with falls sewn into the bottom adds a good amount of weight for skirts. Also great for upholstery and easy wall hangings!
3) Look up the Bengali 'aatpoure' style. It's super traditional, but I've found that it's more friendly than the usual drape if you have an androgynous figure or if you just don't want to have your pleats all in the back. Looks BRILLIANT with a crisp white shirt underneath!
Love seeing you mixing your western and south Asian heritage! Pls keep doing more videos like this, you are so beautiful Nina!
Please get that guy a color blind glasses as a gift ❤️
lol they are 5 thousand dollars did you know that?
Did you know they're not 5 thousand dollars? xD
I knew someone who was colorblind and hated them. He felt like they showed him what he was missing out on, or seeing different and made him sad.
He was happy just how he was 😊
@@meganpare8998 they're not 5k!😂 More like $400.
Proud to be a Sri Lankan🇱🇰
Congrats on your engagement Nina!
Wait what
@@Pp-ws2ky they talked about her engagement in a recent cheap wedding dresses video.

In india, if you wear any of these 3 styles, people will laugh non stop on your face. If you want casual look, you can just wear a casual Saree with less embroidery normal way.
true
That's sad.
@@janekof it's not sad, don't expect met gala camp theme in day to day life, it is not a freak show.
this was just how to wear a saree casually in the West. most cultures blend their clothing into more mainstream looks in different countries; it's part of assimilation and perfectly normal. Nina did also clearly state that in countries whose people wear sarees everyday that they do have casual and formal types. she's not in Asia, so she's making her look work for where she's at in Western society.
I love that you consider wearing a casual sari a freak show. Yikes Phoenix
U should totally try to wear a nice simple sari in the old traditional way to work am sure u r gonna achieve compliments....
Absolutely gorgeous. I love that you incorporated your heritage into your everyday wear! You are so lucky to have beautiful fabrics to wear.
The last one looked AMAZING! You go Nina!
The dhoti style was so amazing!
Hey! Your last Sari video made me jealous as they are so beautiful. I commented about it, and my replies were so positive about me wearing them. So I decided to give it a go. I found skirts made out of recycled Saris. They are absolutely beautiful, and and make me feel beautiful. Thanks for opening my world to such beautiful things.
Love it. I love the look of saris they are so pretty and elegant
These are amazing. Embrace your culture!
LOVE YOU!! YOU GO GIRL
“ it’s a beautiful colour i mean I’m. colourblind but still” ummm 😂😂
That's funny that you went to a movie theater, I used to manage a movie theater in NJ and we always showed a lot of bollywood films, so we would get women dressed in saris all the time. :)
Beautiful(you and the saris, Nina)! Loved the colors and the adaptations. 😃
Yay to anyone and everyone who openly express their heritage with traditional clothes in a society where anything the differs from the norm is seen as scary!! She looks absolutely stunning.
how did you pee on the jeans day
lol i pinned the waist pleats so i just took 'em out and re-tucked them
@@ninamohan6153 Hey gurrlll that dress one was amazing!! You could've tried a cropped denim jacket instead of the big one, but it was still really good!
You looked so great and very colorful! Love It!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved these looks. You really looked amazing.
“You found a way to light up a dark room in it” 😭
1:14 I replayed this like 10 times😂
Great video btw👍
Loved this...especially the dress version!
Loved this. I look forward to seeing you do this regularly.
My husband brought back some scarves from Africa and I’ve been trying to figure out how to wear them because they’re so pretty! This has inspired me. ❤️
Africa is not a country
Star Cherry I’m aware
She looks so beautiful!
I've always loved the Saree look! You worked it very well!
love love loved the first look with the jeans! so cool!
The second and third ones were my fave. I wish more people would express their culture like this. I only ever see older south Asian ladies wearing saris outside of formal events. I passed up a chance to experience wearing a sari when a friend of mine got married. I wish I had taken that opportunity.
HeavenlyMakeUp Its not an easy dress to wear everyday. Even current Indian women like my wife only wear it for ethnic occasions.
i loved this video so much!! ive always thought saris are so beautiful and i think it’s so cool how she’s trying to explore more of her culture and using it more in her day to day life
The jean look was my fav!
Saris are so beautiful omg 😍
It looked good every way tbh.
I love sarees! They’re so beautiful 💕
This was awesome I loved it. So interesting to see how you changed it up to fit your work day. Beautiful.
These are soo beautiful!! I think my favorite was probably the first one!! (I'm a more casual person)
Yet i LOVED how fancy and formal the last one was!
Very interesting. I never paid much attention to how many different ways a Sari can be worn. You rocked all of them!
I love love love the second outfit!
Nina is SO cute and high fashion and likeable and I have loved every single video she's made! Especially when she tries styling outfits new ways!!!
I've watched a couple of these. She always looks like a princess in the fancy ones, and she looks so pretty in this.
This looks like so much fun! And it’s cool cuz they’re so versatile. Loved all for he looks! Wish I could pull that off.
at 1:14 her eyes glitched a lil bit ._.
The first outfit looked very cool !
Saris are gorgeous 😍😍
Looking hella cute, ladyyyy!!!! Love the combo
i loved the third look!
I loved the second one!
Love the short dress one!
That complicated pleating tucked into the jeans looks so cool.... until you have to pee. You have to re-do it every time you go to the bathroom. So much commitment!
u go girlie!!!!’ that is so cool!!
Hey, I am so happy to see someone else wearing sarees on daily basis :) I am Latvian living in Denmark and I wear sarees to work veeeery often :) I have a shamelessly huge saree collection :D I have never tried the styles that you showed, usually I wear the basic/classic "Hare Krishna" style, you know, the way you can see ISKCON (or Hare Krishna) people wear it.
I personally love traditional Indian fashion. Sari's are so beautiful! My summer wardrobe is litteres with skirts made of recycled sari's
Nina in saris is so so amazing omg 😩
I’m so in love with these videos!
She should do this more often, she looks great!!!!
I love saris. I think they are so beautiful.
You should wear these all the time you are stunning in them!
this is a beautiful video. I'm so happy she didn't go through any racial discrimination. I'm so happy she felt so happy and confident. Nina was stunning- per usual. Love her~
I thought you were going to wear it in 3 of the 20 traditional ways to wear a sari but this was AWESOME! I might take a page out of this, esp #1! Lots of love from an Indian-American!
I LOVE IT, you look great!
The second outfit was gorgeous
wow thats stunning. totally wishing my background had any culture rn😂
I love this
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍NINA I LOVE U FOR THIS
Holy CROW you look amazing
I'm British Sri-Lankan and loooove using saris in my fashion, usually wear them as scarves and live for it! loved this video
extra cute and extra cool!! love love love
Saris are so beautiful, I wish I could wear them
Will you share the tutorials you found please? Particularly interested in the short dress tutorial
I LOVE THIS
This is something I've been wanting to try since I am Hmong-American. Our traditional garb is typically worn for events here in the U.S., though it's worn back in the homeland as "normal" clothing, but like you said, we're in the West. Fortunately, I've been seeing Hmong fashion designers experimenting with modernizing the pieces we're so used to seeing.
I wanna try this because it is so beautiful and the culture behind it is so fascinating.
I love this so so so so much! 😍🔥
Gyspy culture we wear Saris , whenever we want. On day to day basis ..the sari will be lininen and thin on special ocassion it would be silk, super colorful and beyond embroidered and alot of Gold. I'm used to seeing saris with jeans alot and heels.
Vibrant colors look so pretty on you! I know in some other video you said that you mostly wear dark colors but the vibrancy of the sarees (is that the right spelling? Sorry if it's not) makes you look so bright and happy!
The yellow is my fav
You looked flawless
U looked stunning in all 3 looks😍
Yass girl it looks really pretty.
Saris are so beautiful
I loved this video. Should do more like it 😊
I looovvvvve this idea! I'm not Sri Lankan but I stan repping your culture in everyday life!
A freaking goddess.
I think you looked beautiful!!!! In every outfit 🙂 xx
0:00 sounds like a teapot 😂
