I would wear that diamond brooch! It's beautiful and I absolutely love it. The opal is also quite stunning, but if I had my choice, the brooch is the winner in my personal opinion.
@janeflip1 I would too ! these gorgeous pieces always end up in the hands of people who have no appreciation of beauty. did she say she thought it was hideous ? cannot believe it.
Both pieces are exquisite! The brooch’s elegance and the opal’s vibrant beauty are a testament to incredible craftsmanship. I’d wear them both in a heartbeat! 😍✨
@ all diamonds contain carbon 14 which cannot be older than 10’s of thousands of years old due to the half life of carbon 14. I can prove what I “believe”. Can you?
That opal was absolutely stunning. The play of colour!*fans self*.I'd go for that first. But unlike the owner,I don't think the diamond brooch/pendant was hideous,I quite liked it.
Opals are simply beautiful. So many colours, every opal is unique in colour pattern and they change colour depending on which way you look at them. By far my favorite precious stone. 4:10
It's a tough choice between the two, they're both extremely beautiful. The opal is really stunning, though so I guess that would be my choice if had to choose one.
She’s a delight. Old money. Perfect manners. Very funny. Would love to have a drink,or two, with her! I’m Australian, birthstone is Opal and can’t stand ‘em.
Oh please adopt a third daughter who will happily share the opal with my other sister. Pinky swear I will give it back. Actually all joking aside she could be my mom. Fashion sense, humour, honesty that can surprise all and is innocently delightful. Just like my real mom. Ma! Brooch please and thanks 😂❤😉
I suspect the diamond brooch was called "the soup plate" because, at some time in the past, her Mum looked at the piece and said, "Lord love a duck. That stone's the size of a soup plate!" or something similar.
That Black Opal is nature's most beautiful art! Like a picasso painting! It is undervalued though coz if you buy that at Harry Winston you would be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars;
The English have the habit of under-valuing precious jewelry. That opal alone is worth triple or more of what was quoted. And same for the brooch. 8 carats $35k. ? Worth so much more.
@ - Yes, you are correct. I listened to it a few times, you are right. I don’t understand why she would value the opal/ diamond brooch that low? The diamonds alone would bring more than that, even if a poorer quality, then the massive opal would bring much more. I suppose it’s the market. If nobody wants it, the price drops.
My mom had an oral necklace and a amber one. After she died I went to Germany to clean out her apartment and didn't find them. Her money box was gone too.
@@htimsid obviously he means that the vast majority of us don't have relatives who gift us such things. I hear the real meaning of your comment, of course. It pays to be kind to people.
I keep saying the same old thing. Rich person has very old, very expensive thing that their relatives, who were also all very rich back then could afford in the first place.
@edithengel2284 oh I guess they should have gotten more jabs, continued to wear masks and kept 6 feet away from people then! That "vaccine" should have stopped the spread and protected them. Should it have not?
I really dislike this arrangement of having the audience placed in a circle around the filming area and awkwardly standing there. Having a one on one scenario might be better.
35k GBP FOR THAT DIAMOND BROOCH?? Where can I buy an 8CT diamond whatever color (look at the clarity of it!!) for that little money?? Its 8CT thats not even including the plethora of other diamonds around it!
Platinum was not used in jewellery before the very late 1800s, and very rarely in association to an underlay of yellow gold (which it does not structurally need). Also, you can see the oxidation/tarnishing in the setting of the centre diamond.
@@Loostyc And she's old money, can't fake that accent. Obviously she's not going to like a diamond broach that size. It's so vulgar, something one would give to a mistress or to the wife to prove you had "made it". Especially as it is slightly off colour.
Which of these two jewellery pieces do you prefer and why? Tell us below 👇
The diamond brooch. Sell it, buy the opal one and do something else with the rest of the money.
Diamond brooch, definitely.
The diamond of course.
That beautiful opal hands down! A semi precious rainbow that leaves you breathless!
Opal > Diamond. Every time.
What a wonderful example of british understatement and humor. Love that lady
Love the “Oh they’ve been in the family and passed around a bit” approach. 😄
why would you love that? she's trying way, way too hard
Gorgeous stones and lovely, down to earth owner. Loved her. ❤️
This is a prime example of Beauty is in the eyes of beholder !
Opal is my birthstone I cried when I seen this I would love to have that. Beautiful. Both. . 😮❤
Mine too.
Me to!!
Me too !
The opal - beautiful and wearable. The diamonds around it are also glorious!!!
I would wear that diamond brooch! It's beautiful and I absolutely love it. The opal is also quite stunning, but if I had my choice, the brooch is the winner in my personal opinion.
My birth stone is opal and I absolutely adore them so my choice would be to give you the diamond if I could. I'll keep the opal.
I could wear it to Walmart!
Amen.
@janeflip1 I would too ! these gorgeous pieces always end up in the hands of people who have no appreciation of beauty. did she say she thought it was hideous ? cannot believe it.
You couldn't afford it...never mind wear it
Both pieces are exquisite! The brooch’s elegance and the opal’s vibrant beauty are a testament to incredible craftsmanship. I’d wear them both in a heartbeat! 😍✨
The opal is magnificent!
The opal has it because of its rarity🌟
The opal’s colors are simply mesmerizing! Its rarity and the story behind it make it an absolutely timeless treasure. Truly a collector's dream! 🥰💎"
Beautiful, both of them. You have to appreciate the artistry.
How neat is this Jewelry 👍☺️😄
Diamonds 💎 always
I love them both. I love the hideous brooch!
The opal, just because of the 100 million year origin story told by the appraiser and that the colors are truly spectacular.
Hook line and sinker
How old do you think diamonds are… 🙃
@ all diamonds contain carbon 14 which cannot be older than 10’s of thousands of years old due to the half life of carbon 14. I can prove what I “believe”. Can you?
Scientists have proven diamonds to be billions of years old. They are so hard that nothing inside them changes! @@gs1100ed
Both are fine pieces of jewels.
Fabulous jewels 🎉

Gorgeous
I'd wear both pieces oh my God they're gorgeous.. 🥰
I prefer the diamond brooch, both are magnificent but i love Victorian jewelry!😊
Either ! Quite lovely
The opal naturally, being Australian 😍
It's a tough choice between the two, they're both extremely beautiful. The opal is really stunning, though so I guess that would be my choice if had to choose one.

this opal is top quality very beautiful
The broach could be broken down to create different items of jewelry. The opal is stunning.
I have a black opal..there gorgeous
Gorgeous Brooches❤
How can a woman her age look so fantastic🎉
Beautiful.

Ma! Brooch please and thanks 😂❤😉
The minute the owner began to speak you just knew she’d have some old great uncle who’d run a colony or something.
Yep, even today the accent is a tell.
Plus the whole "we have an uncle we HAD to be nice to - fortunately, mother was very good at pretending to be nice". Gold.
It is called received pronunciation. It is a mark of an educated person and has nothing to do with colonialism.
She's also a firecracker. I loved her stories. 😂
@@roberthancox It is aristocratic / upper class sounding. Educated people don’t all sound like this woman, that’s a ludicrous thing to say.

That opal alone is worth triple or more of what was quoted. And same for the brooch. 8 carats $35k. ? Worth so much more.
Please tell me you realise we use a different currency from the US...?
Wow better than Princess Catherine brooches
That opal on its own is worth more than that
I believe she's undervalued the opal. The opal alone is worth £5K. With the diamonds it would be significantly more.
I agree.
Black opals that size & quality alone are 30-40k.
She said £35,000 for the diamond brooch and £40,000 for the opal brooch at auction.
@mchapman1928
She said, "WITH" the opal you would be looking at £40,000. Not £40 grand for the opal.
@ - Yes, you are correct. I listened to it a few times, you are right. I don’t understand why she would value the opal/ diamond brooch that low? Curious how do I post something for Road show to look into?

I'd buy them outright for $35,000 US!
Opals are rare and hold their value. This one is fantastic. Keep the diamonds they have little resale value in comparison.
I keep saying the same old thing. Rich person has very old, very expensive thing that their relatives, who were also all very rich back then could afford in the first place.
And so?
Covid and social distancing are antiques too!
People are still dying of Covid, and suffering from long Covid. And this was made in 2022, not last week.

Let's see 5,000 lb for that beautiful black Museum quality opal surrounded by diamonds, seems a little low ?
The brooch is supposed to be ve worn on a corset. Of course it's too heavy for modern garments
The opel because my uncle had an opel
🤣the pure luxury she has to SEE these multiple diamonds as 'hideous'.
How could she think that beautiful piece hideous??
Not her style. Oh well
Lol… English.. be advised… Opals are common in Australia… low cost and prolific in jewelry stores.
So many commentators here showing their inverted snobbery
Why is she standing so far away? Is this during COVID?
She really can't stand the brooch.
I think it was probably filmed in the summer of 2021. Looks like the later distancing rules were in play.
I really dislike this arrangement of having the audience placed in a circle around the filming area and awkwardly standing there. Having a one on one scenario might be better.

She thinks that spectacular diamond brooch-pendant is hideous and completely unwearable? Time to put granny out to pasture.
Diamond only brooch is rather platinum and gold instead of silver and gold.
lol. you can tell that through the screen as a YT expert better than a real expert in person that can see the markings? Sit down
Jewelry made at that time was often made from cast silver then coated with a layer of gold.

The earth is not that old.
Sorry, girls. Mummy's decided to go to an auction house.
Is ANYONE surprised that they're worth 5 figures? I think not, lol.
So much fear of appearing posh.
