Bhaiya, I have a similar problem as Micheal in that I am not being able to select "port "option from "Tools" in arduino IDE. Is there any way the virtual com port can show up in the arduino ide' port option. Thank you.
Short answer No. Long answer: You can do both. I mean you can connect physical Arduino with Proteus. Suppose you want to see proteus simulation analog data in graph. Then you can connect proteus with arduino IDE this way and use Arduino Serial plotter to see proteus data.
@@ShuvangkarDas ok thanks. i don't know why though, but my Arduino ide is not recognizing any virtual com ports. I'm getting a null port error and cant select any ports. that's why I was wondering if I would need a physical arduino. if you have any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated

@@michaeljwosniak7241 There might be a problems with your Arduino Driver Installation. You can try reinstalling Arduino IDE.
